Hmmm..Mi Box is just an android box. So yeah, for your Play Store and YouTube, you need to root your device. Alternatively if you want to install any apps that you want, you can download the apk file using your pc and transfer the file over to install. Remember, this is a Chinese android box, not a google android hence rooting is require to get YouTube. You don't really need Playstore though  blush.gif I face the same thing like you when I first got my Mi Box, only to realize that this is android..lel..not like our phone, its different.  rclxm9.gif The only thing that I can't run now is still YouTube, I use my phone to cast instead, for now, too lazy to find another solution.

What is GITV though? You bought the pro version? If you don't want then sell to me at cheaper price  biggrin.gif

I sideloaded YouTube, works fine for me. GITV is the name of their UI.

Ok downloaded shafa from shafa.com, installed the latest version.

Still found no youtube inside it. Is there anything else you did? Search for youtube, but only shows up app names with chinese "you".

Look for other addon source maybe for HD picture. Personally i think it is quite hard to get good quality picture from kodi. Even if manage to find one hard to maintain its availability. If picture quality is your concern stick back with axtrok

Gitv is one of the content partner in china that work together with xiaomi. Basically mostly all the show and movies wont work well out of china.

Bought the Mi Box 3 Enhanced version cos some forummers here say its good....but is it really?

Comes out of the box in Chinese and installing Shafa still its pretty much 70%-80% Chinese.

Spent one whole evening trying to root the device, without a keyboard for input it was a pain and slowed down my progress.

Spent another day trying to set up Play Store, Youtube and Kodi....

Now my Kodi is setup and Kodi is great, but the GITV is still in Chinese and I have no idea how to use it. The GITV really sucks and I hate it.

Seems like I should have bought the Minix U1 instead. Would have saved me quite a lot of hassle and seems like the interface is better.
As this is my first week using it I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I missed out some cool feature of the Mi Box. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

What is so good about the Mi Box? Can someone explain why it is so popular?
*
Basically you don't need to root the box to get it to work. Look for other apk to watch instead of the bundle Gitv. Mi box was popular due to marketing gimmick i guess.

Hi guys, sorry to ask this. I'm a bit confuse of the MiBox variance in the market as sellers used different name to sell it..

MiBox 3
MiBox 3S
MiBox 3S Pro
MiBox Pro
MiBox 4K

and with 2nd, 3rd , 4th , 5th generation which makes it more confusing..

Anyone care to enlighten me? Like sorting from old to new so at least i know which is the latest one..

Thanks.

The issue is not about where the youtube from, but the normal youtube normal app doesn't play video. This is mibox issue.
In order to use Youtube, you need to install YOUTUBE TV.

You can install the Alternate App Store - APKPURE - https://apkpure.com/apkpure-app.html
Then you can download "YouTube for Android TV" and install directly into mibox.

Besides Youtube TV app, you need to install other Google Service too.
Download and install all the APK from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?mfek7zqrrp36c

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, Ace meimei here.
Just wanna check with you all, I just got myself a Mi Box 3 PRo as a gift from friend, got it from China.

But the thing is, I'm not sure whether it will work here or do I need to crack it?
If yes, where can I find the solution?

Depends on what you wanna do. You wont be able to use the native apps to watch movies. That leads you to installing apps like kodi to watch or any other smile.gif just need to download the apk file and install it in your mibox smile.gif

Hello,

I am new to the Mi Box. Where do you buy your Mi Box? Local shop or online? I am location in Penang.

Do you get the "jailbreak" version? From this forum, I read something you can install different apk so you can watch TV program from China/Hong Kong.

Also, what is the minimum broadband speed for this to work?

Currently has Astro at home, quality/service is not that good. Looking for alternative

Thanks in advance. rclxms.gif

Yes. But some of the apps are still limited for China viewing only.
