You don't get the point. Those things you said are not guarantees. What if you downloaded from the wrong link ? What if this .... what if that ... ? The only way of guarantee is to check the version number of the installed apk.

AFAIK, nope.
To sideload apps, you don't need to root the box.
Similar to you installing apk into Android phone, just need to allow unknown sources in the setting.
Root is only needed if you are installing apps that need superuser/root permission.
