AFAIK, nope.
To sideload apps, you don't need to root the box.
Similar to you installing apk into Android phone, just need to allow unknown sources in the setting.
Root is only needed if you are installing apps that need superuser/root permission.

Noted bro, so not all unseal is rooted, its depend on the app installed. So need to ask the seller either they sell rooted set or not.

Hi Edmund, can you please guide me on how to enable this setting? I had tried to look for it but to no avail. I am on Mibox S. Thanks in advanced!

I'm on the international (non-china) version with Android TV. I unlocked the Developer Option just like on any other android phone, tapping the Build Number a couple of times. The Process limit is at the bottom of the Developer Option.

I'm not sure whether or not that's the fix, I haven't revert it back to normal because it seem so solve the slow down issue for me.

Wishful thinking lar. Why would asking the seller if the box is rooted can cause him to be angry ?

Rooted device is a useful feature. Reason most of the devices are rooted is because the requirement for rooted device far exceeded the requirement for non-rooted device, ie only minority does not want their device to be rooted.

Latest there is a trend that ROM creators are make devices which can be rooted or unrooted on the fly. I don't know how they do it, likely they hide the root under different filenames, and simple root checkers unable to detect that as they search root based on file names.

If you dont want root, just unroot it. Easy.

But if you want root but the ROM is unroot, its much harder to add root on to it.

So what do think the ROM creators will do ?
