Which one will you choose?

1. Initial setup cost? Which is economical?

2. Running cost? Monthly charges?

3. Performance and accuracy?

4. Durability? Battery long lasting?

5. Functionality?

I am using ADT alarm at my office. Alarm price is not expensive. Most expensive will be their monitoring service which they will call you if your alarm went off. They can also disable the alarm for you remotely. I was charged RM900+ a year. I have issue with the cables for the alarm. They gave me cheap cables and causing my alarm to goes off occasionally. When i called them to fix the problem, they charged me RM100 for site visit without doing anything. And to redo all the cables (although not my fault) they charging me with very expensive quotes. I have since then stop the monitoring services and did not pay for the site visit price. I would not recommend you to get ADT.

ANy brand also the same, it matters on user friendly or not.
All the wire used for the detector points are low quality wire. For those wire that always subjected to atmosphere, it will fail faster.
A rm15000 alarm with brand and with a rm1500 alarm without brand works the same.

I'm also looking out. So far I've came across Bluguard, Paradox, Df and Supa series.
Different sales person gave different view of each system. Ultimately Bluguard I was told is a relatively new brand, not so stable, hence not sure on the false alarm frequency.

ADT u need to pay them annually or monthly, just for their calling service.
If u use other alarm, like Bluguard, the system can directly call u when alarm trigger, no need go thru 3rd party. U can also check the alarm status, arm/disarm thru phone call. Very convenient.

Normally, a double storey terrace alarm package is around 2k to 3k.
The performance and accuracy actually depends on how installer install the sensors. no matter what brand u buy, the sensors installer use also same, normally is ebelco brand. And the sensor sensitivity is adjustable.

So far I feel Bluguard alarm quite user friendly, easy to use. If wires and sensors installed correctly, u won't get false alarm at all.

I'm also looking at alarm systems... saw the new product by Sharp, surveillance basic kit (RM1,500) and alarm kit (RM999). Anyone tried it? The plus side I see is that no need to pay monthly fee and I can monitor from anyone. But quite expensive if want to add more camera and window sensons etc.

i am using the Supa alarm the last 10yrs but recently had it replaced because it was faulty. At pasar rd kl, they have Supa compatible systems which cost rm400 (control key pad & circuit board only w/out installation).A complete system together with the sensors for a double storey link house prob ~ RM 700 - RM 800) Wired systems with shock and magnetic sensors are the norm and the installation costs will practically be double the price of the alarm itself. So RM 1.5k - RM 2k will be the norm for a double storey link house. From my experience I can share the following:
- false triggers are rare
- false triggers are usually associated with the backup battery being weak n need to b replaced - hence the siren triggers
- when installing wired system, ensure all wires in the attic are protected by conduit. The rats love to chew on the wires and trigger the alarm. Each visit by the technician will then cost ~ RM80 - 100 just to connect it back (unless one take risk by doing it DIY).

Nowadays, there are those wireless systems which can DIY install. Price abt the same, but need to check & replace 9v batteries for each sensor point. I have no experience with these , so the battery life and false trigger??

I would also suggest to install those IP cameras to further enhance the security level. Thieves are likely to be scared away with siren (and thereafter phone alert to owner) and presence of camera - they are afraid of being caught. They strike when ones not home.Burglars and robbers are more dangerous as they strike regardless.

So, alarms are important. Switch it on even when at home! (family is more important than belongings)
