By switch you meant 3-pin sockets? Light neutral and switches neutral confused me  smile.gif

This depends on house wiring. It can trip and it also cannot trip the CB
*
ahh... my bad, yes switched = socket... well, something to take note for all smile.gif

p/s: almost ready to install lights and smart switches for my house, cant wait to try out all the features of Aqara biggrin.gif

Hi guys, just got mi home system installed. May I know which region do you all set for your account? I have to set to China only i am able to detect all the other devices. However, the server update is very slow. Take forever (15s) just switch on the lights... Any recommendations? Thanks.

Wah, so bad ah the app?
I use Sonoff without the app, guess you have to search how to switch off after it had been triggered by motion.

Normally have to set to Mainland China server.
Slow? Connection problem maybe?
*
Using unifi, guess china connection is not that good.
When you said china mainland server does that mean the country region set to china?

By the way, any experience with mi motion sensor? It seems the detection range is very short like 1m only, but the specification says 7m. Any idea?

Im using mi home ecosystem now, everything works pretty well once setup. One drawback is whenever i need to access my home through the internet, it always take forever to connect to the server. Sometimes its much quicker to stand up and walk over to switch on the lights than waiting for the app to load😅

are you using android?
mine is usually okay. sometimes of course will lag really bad but like once in a blue moon only
anyway i hardly use the app to turn on/off things. they are either done thru automation or by siri shortcuts.

see my test today -

Thats real quick! Im using android and it takes at least 30 seconds to refresh the status page. Sometimes it doesnt connect at all. Anyway, automation wise its spot on, the motion sensor is not too sensitive unless it is within 1-2meter range.

Edit:the app drains alot battery and my phone always kill the app in the background. As such i wont be able to receive any notification.

Analog timer is so ... 80s! 🤣
I am going to change all my home switches to Sonoff T1 for light switches. It needs Neutral but I can pull Neutral from my aircons and heater switch next to them. The Sonoff switches especially the 2019 ones are nice but expensive if you are doing for the whole house
*
My house lighting and wall plug neutral is not sharing the same elcb. If the light neutral is connected to the wall plug neutral, it will trip both the elcb. My point is do a trial first before investing in all the switches.

u have to check 1st, if u got 2 elcb, mostly separated lightings and plugs neutral circuit. 20A switch will not use same neutral with lightings switch.
if 1 elcb and sharing neutral.. enjoys..  laugh.gif

Yes, happened to me that my wallplugs elcb tripped but my lights and AC are still working. And i wondering whether any issue with my wiring cause if strike my lightning all the elcb shd tripped.

How many elcb u have?
Maybe ur ac also on separated circuit?

Ur elcbs may have different tripping current.

I think there are 3 elcbs
1 for lights
1 for wall plugs
1 for water heater and ac

I think so😅

You are probably right. My house is running on 3 phase wiring. Anyway, not to deviate from the main discussion, any idea when is the aqara 3 buttons switch launching? I read it will be launched but have not seen in the market.

get sonoff 1 channel Inching/Self-locking Switch 5V 12V. it has a dry contact relay NO and NC and you can power it up using 12V DC from the autogate board or the backup battery. as long as it has esp8266 and a relay that would be suffice to control anything.

example image attached is my setup for my autogate and doorbell. i flashed the module with tasmota and control it with HA. also use esp8266 with 1 channel relay to sense the doorbell press.it runs custom firmware thru esphome. what u can do with that is limitless smile.gif

Hi, i have the same autogate as you and have been thinking how to control my porch light when i open the gate. Just wondering how do you tap the signal when the gate open or close for your automation?

Im not an expert with electrical so please bear with my stupid questions...

Edit: im using mi ecosystem with no custom firmware.

QUOTE(th3game @ Nov 12 2019, 08:18 PM)
i dunno about mi ecosystem. are you controlling your porch light using the board or just normal on/off switch?

if u are tapping porch light from the board,u must know that the board can activate the porch light when the gate is opening and will turn off after the gate is closed.

below taken from the user instructions of the dcmoto gfm925w
ps: photosensor always on the board that always dark biggrin.gif

but if you have normal on/off switch then you should do the automation. sense the gate is opening then turn on the porch light and vice versa.

to sense the opening/closing gate, if you using the same board as mine, i would suggest to use optocoupler 12VDC. input side tap it on port on autogate board it says LAMP. then other side tap it onto any GPIO,for my case i will tap on my sonoff 1ch on GPIO14,GND,VCC. need abit soldering. to simplify it

open gate>board sense it then send 12VDC to port LAMP>opto isolator triggered>pull dow logic to low GPIO14>publish MQTT gate open. the logic low will retained as long as the gate is open

and after the gate is closed, the board will stop send 12VDC after 1min to port LAMP> opto isolator not triggered > logic high on GPIO14>publish MQTT gate closed.

sorry abit long to explain.

optocoupler example
what Fubar20 said is correct
*
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I should have the same board as you and no, the porch lights are not control by the board. The lights are control by smart switch. I do not need to control switching off the lights when the gate closes. Normally once i park my car, i will close the gate before getting down the car for safety reason.

Edit: just done some research on optocoupler, i think that solved my issue of isolating the two circuits to avoid the high voltage from the board.

Edit 2: after further thoughts, going to change my plan. I will use the optocoupler as the 'switch'. The receiving end will be using a modified door sensor. Read a link on modifying the sensor below.
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/porta...or-sensor/74090

By using this door sensor, i will be able to know the open and close status of the gate.

Do you have information on what is the LAMP relay in the circuit diagram that you posted? Just wondering what is that for if the output from the LAMP is 12VDC?🤔

Hey, currently renovating my house. I am considering installing smart switches. Any recommendations? My household mostly use apple, so home kit is a plus if not I think google home is ok.

Smart switch need to install neutral wire or not?
*
Pulled neutral for most of my switches and it is not as difficult. No major hacking, just hack at the top of the wall to look for the conduit and pull the cable through, only need one neutral wire and loop. The plaster ceiling will concealed the hacking normally.

Why cant just wrap plastic around aqara sensor and stick it to the door?
Maybe cos not heat proof?
*
Hand itchy house guest will try to peel it off everytime they come by😆😆

Thats what i am doing now, i put the sensor in a plastic box and use hot glue to seal it. Its still working now even though i can see some condensation in the box, but TBH, its an eye sore everytime i getting in or out the house.

However, i find if very convenient now that everytime i open yhe gate my porch main lights are switched on. No more worrying that i reverse park my car into something🤣🤣

Edit: my next project would be to modify a door sensor and tap signal from the autogate mainboard. Waiting for a relay and will update the project once completed.

How to wireless control the autogate. I tried to search anything that compatible with mihome app, the seller said my autogate is so called rolling code, cannot copy. Any ideas how to wireless control it?
*
If you read back couple of pages back, something installed sonoff inching switch to control the gate. It has to be connected to the autogate mainboard.

I did thought about connecting the mi wall switch to the autogate switch and set an automation "ON-1 second-OFF". Theoretically should work, but i am not sure how does it work to tap power to power up the wall switch. Not sure the wiring to the autogate mainboard has continuous power supply and the output of it.

Mainland China server

When I switch region the list change also. That why I keep asking I hewr you mention 2 hub so could be your hub individually connect to 2 different region.

See my mi door sensor if connect Malaysia i see 1 only if I connect to China server I see both.
*
Looking for similar solution, all my sensors and switches are connected to China server, I think my gateway is bought from china IIRC. Now thinking to switch to Malaysia server as the China server is really slow when trying to access on my phone with unifi. Sometimes I can't even refresh the app to remote control my lights.

Anyone having same slow response issue with China server?

Edit: what is the max equipment to connect to one single gateway? Thinking to expand with more switches and sensor and may need additional gateway.

Also, if I change to aqara gateway with homekit support, do I still need to link to China server?

Using China server as well and I would say the communication between devices are not slow, the thing that slow is when you want to check status or control through apps but sometimes the speed is acceptable, guess it's server load issue hmm.gif

I'm having major issue with te CN server. It just way too slow to get status update and sometimes can't even refresh the status.

Will need to research into home assistant now 🤔

Yea, looking at the option of using home assistant for local control now.

is it to connect HA with aqara or xiaomi, we need to buy additional usb type zigbee connector?

From my 2hrs google research, no need, HA will integrate with the mi gateway to access rest of the devices.

This is quite a comprehensive introduction video
