So does it need neutral wire or not now?

How you going to put a wifi inside the wall switch without the neutral wire?

In market wireless smart switches not refer to wifi switches, mostly RF, must connect to a hub then into the router. This is because wifi switch high power consumption as it always connected.

Try lor.

But you got to check the depth of our socket back box. Enough space or not. Just recently have this experience with the Schneider rcd socket. Either the new socket no std or the back box. Cause me to modify the back box. Lucky not in the wall.

This dimmer maker/designer must be half pass six. doh.gif Why not just combine the dimmer with the switch with both can be remote. Sell it as a switch dimme. Easy installation and can control both. Definitely consumer won't mind to pay for it.

One of the thing that I don't like this kind of home automation is power consumption.

If you replace all the switch with some socket too, the consumption is freaking high.

I do experience before with remote switch install in my bedroom. Cost rm45 for 2 gang. That is back 18yrs ago. Last for about 10yrs. Internal transformer circuit smoke. No need neutral wire. I can't find back the maker/company.

The bad is, this RF sometime sot sot. Can't detect even few ft away. Have to reset and reprogram again.

I made a Pi Temperature logger already, is for server room. Now will put in Whatsapp to send notification, and also from whatsapp to send kill switch.

Sound interesting.

I m thinking of this too. Wonder my Arduino can do or not.

Now in the mid of expanding my solar system. Some light point will be run on led with DC voltage. All charger and dry cabinet on solar power. I might need some remote monitoring, triggering and controlling.

Arduino more baremetal and less processing power. Will be hard because the whatsapp library are running on python.

Another way is using z-wave/zig-bee bulbs if you don't want to modify anything, currently amazon selling Philips hue white around RM60 per bulb (without shipping cost)

Nowadays zigbee/z-wave RF is very power efficient, I have one z-wave power socket to dim light, after installing, I don't see any different in my electricity bill. also z-wave can easily detect 10 meters away device.

1 switch consume 2w. 20pcs will be 40w. 24hr running even your light is off. That is like pay for nothing.

They should comeout just a main hub. Sleep mode in low power. When require on that light, only than send the signal to that point. Other than that, that point would be in zero watt. That also good to reduce the maintain cost, only hub is power and all the point have no power.

I wonder Amazon echo will respond me " Alexa, can you save my bill?" biggrin.gif

IKEA is coming out with a smart bulb series called Home Smart II Lighting Collection. Its like Philips Hue or LIFX where you can control them using an app or a remote control. Most important thing is IKEA says it will be very affordable.

I cannot find in their website.

But damansara IKEA have more range in there.

The remote is not just 1 type only. You can connect any type on it. I think it got 1 main supply with several led connect to it. So you can connect any led type on it.

Why you need a timer for your table lamps ? Where you place your table lamps?

There is a weekday weekend timer too in the market.
