Seems like blown caps is pretty common for smart switches... Im using those smartlife box smart switch which I installed in my T8 lighting. At first I threw away a couple but later I open up and seems like the caps for wifi always blown after a year or so. Upgraded the caps from 10v to 16v and it has been working fine since. I just dont understand why they dont use higher voltage caps. They must have known it would cause problem.
*
Thanks bro, btw do you need specific capacitor brand or just higher Voltage cap would do the job just fine

for new house, im am doing power point planning, other than smart switches, can remind me where else need power point for sensor or devices? i worry i miss out.

eg: presence sensor at ceiling
*
Which presence sensor do you plan to get?
Budget diy with ld2410 or slightly expensive ones like aqara fp2?
If you got ceiling fans in the room, at least with diy you need to find best spot that doesn’t get triggered by spinning fan.
Could be on the wall or ceiling

Just had a look at some matter thread relays/switch and apparently now support matter binding, relay decoupling and switch multi press.
From customer feedback seems to be mostly on the homekit side, anyone tried on other platform if relay detach/multi press option is available?

Those are very leceh yea sometimes you wont have enough space in the box to fit that, or fit multiple, and if for some reason you need to reset it ....pain in the ass larh open up everything again.

Got switches

I’m more curious on the thread features like binding/relay detach/multi press option

Got this feedback here on homekit side, but no mention yet with other platform

Then there’s this review for the thread relay, but from the HA screenshot only can toggle it and not much other options (unless still need to use 3rd party app)

Dear all Sifus, I am currently embarking on my first smart home planning for my new house.. and needed advise..

The initial plan was to go all out with Aqara as can work with Homekit as my family is on Apple ecosystem.

But as I am doing the sourcing and budgetting, I found tha the price of the switches are like 2x more expensive than Tuya switches...

I am currently looking to implement:

1. Full smart switches (including aircond and heater switches) for surface light, track light and fan.
2. Smartdoor lock (I am living in a dual key condo, as such I need 2 wooden door lock + 1 Grill)
3. CCTV for the front door and also living room
4. Motion detection for midnight light
5. Humidity and temperature sensor

I did a few research and ready about matter integration between Aqara , Tuya and Homekit... does it work? Say if I mix

1. Tuya switches + Aqara Switches
2. Aqara Hub
3. Aqara presense sensor
4. Tuya Smartdoor lock
5. Tuya curtain
6. Sensibo / IR hub for Aircond & Fan

Thanks in advanced.
*
If you’re going full homekit there’s the tuya homekit hub that expose all your tuya zigbee devices (cheaper) to homekit
So you’ll need aqara hub + tuya homekit at least for your setup

6. For me sensibo is overpriced, which ac brand do you have?

I am using panasonic the cheapest inverter :'(

What you meant is as long as I have an Aqara Hub + Tuya Matter Hub (eg: Zenismart), then I can control all Tuya devices via Aqara App and/or HomeKit? Is there any limitation ? As in the things that I want to do (ie: open door. switch on light if its after 730pm, if toilet humidity above x% then turn on exhaust)
*
At least from epicure reviewed before this, tuya homekit hub is more reliable than matter version

Only limitation with homekit is you don’t get power monitoring (which you’re probably already familiar with). You can still view the power usage in tuya app. Also, you can get any tuya hub which is cheaper than zemismart since they work the same

As for panasonic ac, you can connect esp32 to the CN-CNT or CN-WLAN port on the pcb and control it directly without relying on IR + get actual state if someone use the physical remote. Should cost you rm20 or so, just you’d still need to setup homebridge (yet another hub) from an old pc or raspberry pi.

Panasonic —(esp32)-> homebridge —> homekit

I got an extra wifi T8 rgbcw if you want, there was a shop selling T8 wifi (warm/cold) version but I can’t find it anymore on shopee.

I am interested in building my smart home, currently with apple tv 4k (thread-capable router). What devices should I start with that supports homekit, matter w/ thread and does not cost a bomb price, with questionable reliability.
*
There’s this shop here, use sea shipping for cheaper rate

https://my.world.taobao.com/item/7637599224...FromAutoCallApp

For cheaper thread devices, there’s espzero code where you can just flash thread firmware and just swap out those wifi chips from tuya devices

Which is better interm of app control and device support?
Broadlink rm4 pro or tuya ir+rf?
*
They both work the same. Use tuya since they have more smart devices

Hi all, my Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen just died on me. After checking with seller from Shopee, they only provide 3 month's warranty from date of purchase, but checking directly with Google, device is still under warranty, but cannot claim RMA from them since they don't ship to MY. Any electronics repair shop in Klang Valley able to repair IoT and smart gadget devices? Went to Digital Mall PJ this morning but all of them don't do smart devices repair, mostly Macbooks and Apple stuffs only. Any leads as to where I can bring this to be repaired is greatly appreciated.

Do you still have return back to US? If they offer replacement can use forwarder service

Yeah, it seems that I have to resort to using forwarder service from SG to MY, since Google US can only send to SG as the nearest point. Any ideas how much is roughly the cost for using this forwarder service? Do I have to apply for SIRIM beforehand as well?
*
So they’ll send a replacement to SG instead?
There’s gimworld, but I haven’t use their service yet
No need to apply sirim

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Looks like there are a lot of hassles in getting this sorted. Hope the shipping from MY to US doesn't cost a fortune then, else it's not even worth it to do RMA in the first place.
*
I don’t think it’s worth it if you need to send back to us. It’s gotten way to expensive now

I have super newbie questions 🙇‍♂️ would like to ask:

1) Are smart switches able to wire for 2 way, specifically smart switch for water heater? One of the smart switch vendors I spoke to suggested that I use app scene/automation function to mimic 2 way switch function instead, I'm not sure if this is recommended...

2) From my understanding, most smart switches are not compatible with DC fans. Would like to ask anyone's experience, do IR/RF blasters work well with remote controlled KDK fans?
*
1) Like for existing 2 way wiring for water heater?
2) Works fine with KDK fan, the ir blasters anyway

Yes, I've seen some two way smart light switches, wondering if there are any 20A rated smart switches can also be wired the same.
*
You can use relay for that and just add contactor to the switch wired to the water heater. It still would operate as normal even without network/automation

user posted image

Using wireless switch on the other end might not be reliable if the network goes offline/battery dead

Another interesting relay is the sonoff basic r4 if you don’t want to mess with existing wiring much

Oh I didn't think of this, thank you!

Although I think what I remember from research in past is that such relays are for low ampere (10A), are there models meant for high-power appliances like air conditioner and water heater?
*
The relay will trigger the contactor, which handles the 20a load for the water heater.
There are but they’re not really designed for normal 2 way

I understand Aqara devices are recommended. However, could anyone please recommend some Tuya/HA compatible Smart wall switches & sockets? Ideally really affordable ones and reliable. Trying to keep every under Home Assistant. Pondering to get the HA Green setup. Links & advice appreciated. Thanks
*
Better flash them with custom firmware. Makes it more reliable with extra features because tuya integration sucks

For wifi switches there’s esphome or openbeken

And for zigbee switches, have a look at this list. You can add multipress/binding/convert to zigbee repeater for the non neutral switches

https://github.com/romasku/tuya-zigbee-swit...=readme-ov-file

As for hardware reliability, the most common issue when the switch malfunction because 1 tiny capacitor bulging/faulty on the pcb. Just replace that and it’ll work again as normal.

HA green not really necessary, you can just get those tiny mini pc for cheaper price.
