Currently all my Tuya Zigbee devices are connected to a Tuya touch panel as the Zigbee hub. If I wanted to use this M1 hub instead to make use of Matter, I need to redo the setup from scratch (eg: remove all devices and reconnect to the new hub) or is there a shortcut?

If you want to bring all to Homekit/Google via matter, you have to re-pair everything to the M1. Cos this touch panel doesnt work with homekit. it may work with google though, since most tuya devices are compatible with google/alexa. Some quirky ones that i have only work with alexa in the tuya app, no google.

For my case, ill be replacing my Zemismart homekit hub with the Neo homekit hub to cater for my first floor. Fortunately all tuya zigbee switches at the first floor are google compatible.

Then the ground floor shall be served by the M1 hub as some of the ground floor tuya switches arent google compatible.

Not sure if you have a workaround for your case though. You may (not sure) end up using it to control all tuya switches within the switch itself, much like the Aqara S1E can control aqara devices in the same user account.

Actually I dont have issues with my switches or lights with Google, all of them are compatible with Google home. Just my smart lock and cctv which are both Tuya as well but doesnt support Google, both these are wifi instead of zigbee. In this case would you say there's not much benefit for me to get a Matter hub? I was just thinking along the line of future proofing but then zigbee had worked fine all these while.
*
Oh those wifi devices are stuck. They cant be paired to the M1, which only uses either thread or zigbee. Im afraid youre out of luck, unless you go with the Tuya plugins on home assistant or homebridge (if youre using homekit only).

Looking forward to your review bro,
I think the only limitation with matter now is just power monitoring not supported yet?
*
Oh i never read about that. But then again i dont have a use case scenario for power monitoring as of yet. Cos all the devices that are plugged into my 13A wall sockets via smart plugs are very low power..

May change once i invest in some 20-30A zigbee boiler plugs for my aircon units

Thanks, it's rm239 at Lazada. Shopee cheaper?

They dont have this on their shopee website yet. They seem to be more active on lazada, aliexpress and their own website

Yeah I figured so...

So actually I dont really need Matter unless I have tons of devices which I cannot integrate onto Google Home but they need to be Zigbee devices at least
*
Yup, either zigbee or thread. I think the landscape should be moving towards matter over thread. But zigbee is still cheap and works locally and is quick. So.. im ok with either zigbee or building up a thread network. The M1 should help since its a thread router, and any thread device added will be a thread mesh extender

So I have 3 Aqara S1E that the screen is failing by flickering... I kinda enabled the standby screen so it is usually black color. Surprisingly now all of them seem to work fine again, no more flickering.

Same
My one had lines for like a couple of days. Then it disappeared

Fingers crossed

Yes, the lines and sometimes flickers. Are you using it always on screen, or does it turn off during standby?

I think my option is standby at night. Day time its always on

im very new to this smarthome set up

so far i have  bought random light bulbs and lights:

1. TP link Tapo Bulbs 530E x 6
2. Yeelight Arwen ceiling light x 1
3. some random tuya E14 bulb
4. some TP link wifi sockets

these devices specifically say 'no need hub/bridge' so it connects directly to wifi.

im afraid of wifi interference with my other devices like TV stick / laptop if there are too many devices connected to the 2.4GHz band.

question: is there a hub that i can use? if i use hub, meaning those smart stuff connects to the hub, then the hub (1 device) connect to wifi right?
*
You would have to buy zigbee/zwave accessories to connect to a hub. The ones you bought are wifi only

Have you gotten your zemismart matter hub? how was it? can it really paired with other tuya zigbee devices like generic tuya smart switch?
*
Hi there

Yup got it, paired it up with my Zemismart Matter over thread curtains. Signal is quite spotty , probably have to move it nearer to the curtains.

As a zigbee hub, works fine. Connected some sensors to it. Didn't connect any switches though

im using zigbee door sensor too at my outdoor gate.
i re-used a small electronic box that i have.. had to removed the entire module from the original case and put inside the box.. the box that i had quite small.
magnet use neodymium that i have laying around..

seems to function well even in heavy rain.

btw, im moving away from button CR batteries.. seems not last long and 'difficult' to get.. sweat.gif
im getting AAA battery type zigbee sensor after this.. seems much more reliable..
*
I’m also using a contact sensor for my gate, also using larger magnets. The aqara sensor still ok, after 2 years usage, pretty remarkable power utilization from aqara.

I was also looking at AAA/LR03 battery zigbee sensors, but i read on reddit that those die out faster than button cell ones. The nice thing about the button cell ones is that they are way smaller in size

The devices I use is all tuya zigbee but some I bought from different seller and some from China

I just don't want waste my usb slot and see if there is other alternative, currently my room doesn't have usb slot, I will need to add a usb charger + the dongle and it will look like a long stick poking out
*
For me i have a few types of repeaters

1. Zigbee smart plugs - hidden in cabinets mostly
2. Usb zigbee dongle repeater - hidden inside electrical riser
3. Usb powered zigbee devices - zigbee siren, dc-powered usb switch, usb powered zigbee switch

They all work well, it takes time for them to sort out the mesh, but eventually they do build a mesh network

But, like how @simmarjit mentioned, if you have wall switches with neutral, that would be the best, as they are concealed/installed flush, and act as repeaters.

Got a question for homekit users,
How do you manage power monitoring on the home app?
I’m helping to setup my cousin with some homekit stuff/haa firmware/tuya homekit hub (basically just touch & go without setting up server for homebridge etc)
Seems like power monitoring side is on the external app like tuya/aqara
*
Yup i havent seen any power monitoring inside home app before. Only in tuya, aqara apps.

Thanks, if zigbee power monitoring plug/outlet paired to the homekit hub. Then still need to use tuya app to view the graph/statistics?

So can’t actually trigger something like specific power level to do automation in home app?
*
Yup cannot see anything , u need the manufacturer’s app. Homekit is simple haha.

i think i found an easier solution for the homekit ir blaster here without additional hub. Seems like 1 ir remote just for ac and separate remote for learning ir up to 10 devices

What do you guys think?
Please note i’m trying to make this easy for my cousin with just a few clicks instead of the usual yaml, manual IR code capture with HA

epicure does the tuya homekit hub support the tuya ir remote?
*
Nope.. i have an Tuya IR remote. Cos it connects via wifi. But i doubt there is a zigbee version of an IR remote. Then again, even some of my zigbee devices connected to my Tuya Homekit hub dont show up in homekit, like the zigbee siren, which is not supported by homekit i suppose

I got this connection when I try to test for signal for my PIR sensor in my master room toilet, does that mean the dining counter light is acting as a repeater in this situation?

It is a DC switch I buy from here https://shp.ee/bgr7sl8 (type A)

Yes the switch that is controlling the dining counter light is the repeater. Even if it shows bad signal, it will still work

Need recommendation... which of those relay boards would you reocmmend? Those to control autogate via inching. Need to be able to integrate homekit, or at least mqtt so I can expose to homekit.
*
I used the 4 channel Tuya OEM ones. Its got inching, and RF (albeit range not that great). paired to Neo/Zemismart, native homekit.

Its pretty generic and many sellers sell on Lazada/Shopee. I bought it cos my ewelink wifi one crapped out, and now this one is better cos its zigbee.

hi guys,

wanna ask you guys a question, since this is a smart home thread and most of you know the interweb well. Im using maxis router and mesh units for my home. ( i know i know, haha).

If i update the firmware ( i have the file) for the router and mesh units, it wont erase any settings that i had previously right?

Thanks in advance

Hi, anyone knows what sensor to detect open close for outdoor autogate Swing type.

I'm using Sonoff ewelink door sensor and doesn't  do so well as there will be multiple detection when gate open close

Currently I connect the gate like this:
[attachmentid=11498228]

[attachmentid=11498230]
*
I've been using the aqara one. Been 2 years, battery still never changed. By the way you don't need to put the magnet in an enclosure. Just the sensor.

Also what automation you use with it?

Just put it in an enclosure and 3M tape it

I'm not sure about other brands, but I think Tuya and Ewelink CCTV still far behind the more specialist CCTV brands which are rock solid. No such hassle and delay to review old footage and much more options on the camera.
If you are using plug for the CCTV then it's much easier, can buy those cheapo WiFi plugs so can force start your CCTV remotely
[attachmentid=11499870]

I also use these plugs to reboot hubs, cctv power supplies etc. but i’ve had 3 tuya wifi plugs die on me already. When it fails, the relay keeps turning on and off and on and off non stop, like a reboot loop. Kinda iffy about it as it may rosak the device that is connected to the plug.

However, the zigbee plugs that i have have not failed as of yet. Probably will migrate all wifi plugs to zigbee plugs soon. Wifi devices are indeed a pain.
