Hi all~

1. Preferred brand: Any, except Acer and Illegear (due to certain reasons i have to forget Illegear, i now its a good choice sweat.gif )
2. Budget - Around 5k and below, aimed for 4.5k(+/-) to allow extra for upgrade RAM or SSD, its optional tought, maybe no need too.
3. Usage - autocad, 3d modeling/rendering (works), high gaming sometimes
4. Preferred screen size - 15+ or 17+

i have planned to purchase MSI GE72-2QD (RM4.599) and now included GST already become RM5,199 !! that already created some dilemma to my pocket, therefor have to seek for other options. i have looking for GTX960m laptop on other brand yet only know MSI have them with my budgeted price, and Illegear too.

Up to date option, older MSI (GE70) or Asus ROG or Lenovo Y50....

Thanks in advance

Asus
G551JM-DM053H – 15.6” FHD / i7-4710 / 8GB / 1TB / GTX860 4GB / 6 Cell / W8.1 : RM3920/-

MSI
MSI GE62 2QE-006MY Apache – 15.6” FHD IPS / i7-4720HQ / 8GB / 1TB (SATA) 7200rpm / GTX965M 2GB / W8.1 : RM5099

Lenovo
Lenovo Y70-70 80DU009JMJ – 17.3 FHD Touch / I7-4710HQ / 8GB / 512GB SSD / GTX860M 4GB / W8.1 : RM4920/-  <<Straight up 512 SSD and just save up for future ram upgrade.

Well, for your budget Quadro and Firepro would be out of budget. So, the best is getting better GTX cards with the extra cuda core but less precision and software optimization. The i7 HQ/MQ would be sufficient. As for MSI GE70, i would not recommend it as the cooling system is not really good. While the 960M is faster than 860m it is essentially the same card with the 960m clock speed higher (Faster GHz).

Feel free to ask any question.

thanks,
yes the slower gtx860 was a little downside of those both models..

erm, why  hmm.gif  any reasons? but compare to ROG (service after sales is sucks) and overprice MSI, still Illegear is ok. unless you want to get alienware, but AW is kinda, bad specs. not high enough compare ROG, MSI and Illegear. Lenovo is cheaper, quite worth to spend too
*
yes.. couldnt agree more, but what to do... i even thinking go cheaper as like GP70 leopard pro.. cry.gif

Yup it is true. 960 rebadge of 860 with higher clock speed (960 faster Ghz than 860) thats all if i remember correctly.

from a forum i read..

GeForce GTX 960M
GeForce GTX 860M Maxwell -8 %

Core clock base
860M - 1029 MHz
960M - 1097 MHz

Core clock Turbo

860M - 1097 MHz
960M - 1202 MHz

woooahhh.. really not much~

Yes it is pretty but medium specs. With the budget you can get better but if you like it that much and have the $$ to get it. Then by all means go get it. It can game pretty well with the 860m but of course don't expect ultra settings etc.
*
Yup.. Price bit to high with the spec.. But still.. Pretty one..
Btw.. I think i'll going for Asus G551jm.. But the 860m 4gb one already out of stock.. the coming new stock is 860m 2gb one.. Is it better i get the 2gb one where i googled.. the 4gb one kinda...'useless'..and price difference quite huge too.. Extra $ i may use it to upgrade ram to full 16gb or maybe a ssd.. Or any else upgrade i should...

Yup, for normal 1080p gaming 4Gb is a bit much but for 2Gb you might need to tone down some settings for some games. As for the extra $$ , yes it is better in adding RAM (should you need it) or get an SSD.

Most of the time the performance of the GPU is the bottleneck before even fully utilizing the max vRAM.
*
I just read an article that stated 860m 2gb is maxwell based and 4 gb is kepler based...where 2 gb maxwell still performes better than 4gb kepler..

As asus g551jm.. I not sure 860m 4gb is kepler based or maxwell based... There are somewhere saying there r also maxwell 4gb gpu..

As 860m has already been out for a while. A maxwell 4Gb vRAM isnt that impossible. As shown by the link even the Kepler has 2Gb variant. To be sure call them up to ask or go to a store to check by asking to install some third party system check and check the GPU model name.

GM107 (Maxwell) and GK104 (Kepler)

Most probably the recent release uses the maxwell architecture.

EDIT : G551 4Gb variant is using the maxwell. Provided it is the same model as sold in Malaysia.

*
Well well.. . Now I really need to check with the store either their 2gb is maxwell or kepler.. And i do hope they could order the 4gb maxwell one soon..
Or i might just go for msi ge62

If i were you. I would choose the MSI GE62 because of better cooling system. The Asus CPU temp will go up to 90 celcius+. Will be linking you to the review.

But in the end, it is your choice buddy. Happy hunting.  biggrin.gif

EDIT : Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1aIMtjhSlo << Around 5min into the review he shows the temps.

But.. Asus g551jm have a lots extra $$ for other upgrade.. Haha.. lets the dillemma continues till the purchase day.. Haha

Lol, 950m and 960m same only with 950 clock slower and has the option of DDR3.

So in essence its the same card with slower clock speed and DDR3 options << Which means 960m > 950m albeit not that much with both using DDR5.

Hi all..
Finally i going to purchase a laptop tomorrow.. Choices (only) i have from the shop here is and those i would choose,

Asus g501jw (rm4699 /rm4999 with SSD)
Asus g751 with gtx860m (rm5299 256 SSD)
Msi ge70 (rm4699 value $ with heat)
Msi ge62 (rm5099)
And msi ge72 2qd (rm5199) where hv to wait 1-2 weeks to order..

I not really into ssd cos 7200 hdd still ok for me.. i list in g751 and ge72 cos i planned for to get 17". Well.. 15" still a go too..

Choices for now were asus g501 ($ value) or should i wait for msi ge72 ..

G501JW SSD is what capacity ? If it is 256gb then it seems like a good deal. Avoid G751 and GE70, not worth the price.
GE62 is also very well priced, subjected to it is gtx970m variant. If not you opt to get better with that price.
*
The g501jw with 128 ssd only if not mistaken.. . And the ge62 i mentioned just gtx960m (or its 965m version.. Cant remember)..

Thanks.. Later ill check back at the shop.. If it comes with 965m..ill take the ge62.. If 960m.. I think better go for asus g501.. Will that ok? .. Haha
