yup, but i need a laptop with good battery life bro, that is why im going for the low power processors smile.gif and the 7447 battery life due to the powerful i7 processor is about 3.5 to 4.5 hours which is only slightly better than my current illegear z5.

do correct me if im wrong tho
*
erm size + different battery capacity.., 14" last long a bit sweat.gif yeah.. cz its not ultra voltage so, it consume lots of processing power.

Is there a good gaming laptop for about 2.5k then? Screen can compromise abit I guess  cry.gif  cry.gif
3.5k for a few-years-laptop is abit too expensive for me seeing how I broke my Asus last time after three years  sweat.gif

QUOTE(sadiqutp @ Jul 8 2015, 11:17 PM)
Sifus I need your insight,

1. Preferred Brand
Lenovo, Dell, HP

2. Budget
RM2500-3500

3. Usage
a) Alot of tabs on Google chrome + Music player + other softwares at the same time
b) Image processing software like photoshop
c) Movies (1080 )

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
a) screen size 15.6 preferably Full HD
b) I believe i5-U5200 should be enough
c) RAM 8GB
d) graphic card, doesn't matter. Not playing video games!
f) 500 GB- 1TB hybrid
g) I don't need touch or rotating screen

5. Laptops I have in mind
a) Lenovo Thinkpad E550 ( is it available in Malaysia?)
b) Hp probook 450 G2 ( is it available in malaysia?)
c) Dell latitude ( not sure what model)
d) hopeless choice ( Inspiron 15-5548 )

I am also open to any other suggestions smile.gif

Thanks every one
*
Dell Inspiron 7548T nod.gif this is can add in your list. have 2 version (that is i7 version)

that lenovo and probook, not sure available in malaysia or not. seems 15" thinkpad is not for malaysian market. unless you willing buy from singapore. but dont think its a good choice as RM is very weak.

image processing software usage, i suggest u go for i7.
hybrid hard disk / ssd, its better go for ssd...

if you want consider 14", then,
Lenovo U41-70 Ultrabook 14” FHD , i7-5500U , 4GB , 256GB SSD , N16V-GM 2G , W8.1 : RM3100/-
since your budget is not a prob, can use some money to add up the ram

pls do check the review too ya..

QUOTE(Coconut @ Jul 8 2015, 11:59 PM)
what is the difference between sshd and hybrid?
in terms of real world performance how does this two compare to ssd?

Looking at these 2 laptop currently...

Lenovo U41-70 Ultrabook 80JV004AMJ (Silver) / 80JV004BMJ (Red) / 80JV004CMJ (Black) – 14” FHD / I7-5500U / 4GB / 256GB SSD / N16V-GM 2G / W8.1 : RM2690/-

Yoga 500-14IBD – 14” IPS FHD Touch / I7-5500U / 4GB / 500GB SSHD / N16V-GM 2G / W8.1 : RM2710/-
*
sshd = hybrid

sshd - solid state hybrid drive.. so... its hybrid storage laugh.gif but it does not give ssd-like performance..

compare those 2... yoga have much better screen because it comes with IPS display. but in terms of storage, u41 is better.

b) Photoshop + illustrator + video editing + simulation
c) Movies (1080)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
a)any screen size preferably Full HD
b) MUST be LIGHT (<2kg) and SLIM!
c) i5 or i7 both acceptable as long as could accommodate the usage stated above
d) not necessary touch/rotating screen, performance is priority.

5. Laptops I have in mind

1) Lenovo U41-70 – 14” FHD / I5-5200U / 4GB / 256GB SSD / N16V-GM 2G / W8.1 : RM2250/- (Available in Malaysia alrd?)
2) Lenovo U41-70 – 14” FHD / I7-5500U / 4GB / 256GB SSD / N16V-GM 2G / W8.1 : RM2690/-  (Available in Malaysia alrd?)
2) Yoga 500/ Yoga 3

Kindly let me know if you have any suggestion for me! Thank you and appreciate ur help smile.gif
*
yes.. u41 is available. since you using it for photoshop, editing video, i think its better you go for i7 series. u41 is good deal too... if have remaining money, upgrade the ram. nod.gif plus ssd is a bonus. if you have a lots of things.. can use external hard disk to save movies or any other things.. 256gb is not that much. so mostly your work will consume a lots of space. external hard disk will help you manage your file

QUOTE(Blu3_Darren @ Jul 9 2015, 12:48 PM)
Hello brothers and sisters,
I'm in need of help to look for some laptops with details below for my sister who's heading abroad for studies:

Preffered Brand(s)
Any. As long as it is not difficult to maintain or get parts oversea (Taiwan).

Budget
Around 2,000. Preferably not over 2,300. Anything between 2,301-2,499 only will be considered if it is very worthwhile and valuable in serving the needs.

Usage
- Web browsing, Entertainment (movies and songs streaming), light gaming.
- Research based tasks that requires Excel, Word and related accounting softwares.
- Dedicated art works hobbies that uses Photoshop, Illustrator, Bamboo drawing pad

Preferred Screen Size
Portability, storage size and battery life to be considered as it would be brought along places.

Hope professionals here would able to recommend some models for consideration. Thanks!!
*
Lenovo U41-70 14” FHD , i5-5200U , 4GB , 256GB SSD , N16V-GM 2G , W8.1 : RM2499/-
*try check with lenovo, either they provide international warranty or not.

the only not covered international warranty as they stated are
QUOTE
*Please take note that all IdeaCentre, Desktop Lenovo Series, 3000 Series, SmartPhones and Tablets are not covered by IWS

else look at this
Asus K401LB- FA003H 14" , i5-5200U , 4GB , 1TB , GT940 2GB , 1.65 kg , W8.1 : RM2499+/-

please check the review of the notebook you want to buy to avoid problems in the future.
if you think want to buy in taiwan, as RM still better standing than NTD(taiwan dollar), then might be worth to buy in taiwan. as anything happen, easy to solve.

feel free to ask biggrin.gif

QUOTE(sadiqutp @ Jul 9 2015, 01:56 PM)
Thanks for responding

The 15.6" screen is kindda a must. The inspiron 7548 is really appealing.

I have two concerns though :
1- I wounder how much they would cost nowadays
2- How are they in terms of durability, I am planning to make it a long-term investment

Thank you again smile.gif
*
nod.gif yes.. so far.. that was in your budget and your requirement.

apologies in advance smile.gif
*
sorry missed your post... sweat.gif

this is ultra slim series. but quite good to move around with
variant color im not sure, as well as cd drive.. if the notebook you doesnt have cd drive, you can buy external disk drive around rm100. more or less that price..

Asus K401LB- FA003H 14" , i5-5200U , 4GB , 1TB , GT940 2GB , 1.65 kg , W8.1 : RM2499+/-

else
Asus A455LJ (Red, White, Yellow, Black) 14” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 1TB , GT920M 2GB , W8.1 : RM2220
HP Pavilion 14” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 1TB , GT940M 2GB , W8.1 : RM2399/-
Lenovo U41-70 Ultrabook 14” FHD , i5-5200U , 4GB , 256GB SSD , N16V-GM 2G ,W8.1 : RM2499- thumbup.gif

Inspiron 3543 – 15” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 500GB , GT820M 2GB , DOS : RM2170/- (W8.1 : RM2399-)

QUOTE(paul0303 @ Jul 9 2015, 03:54 PM)
Thanks for ur reply and suggestion! Btw, i want to ask about the wifi antenna/adapter bandwidth of U41-70, because i saw online that the wifi is  802.11 b/g/n only no  802.11 a/c available for U41-70, is that true? because I need  802.11 a/c for my laptop. If I couldn't get  802.11 a/c for U41-70 then maybe i will go for Yoga 500 with  802.11 a/c.
*
b/g/n is standard antenna for mostly notebook.. some u41-70 equip with ac.. but i think its not malaysia unit or SEA region unit.

uk version have 802.11 a/b/c/g/n
malaysia have 802.11 a/c... but need to check as some stated 802.11 a/b/c/g/n on lenovo website.
it doesn't matter use ac or abcgn because its determine how strong they can capture the radio strength, still you can connected to wifi. nod.gif

as for eu/korea/japan/hk unit.. the strength is not that strong

I see, thanks for your information. because i going to UK so i need to get the ac one to be compatible with the wifi there, some of my friend facing problem with b/g/n in UK.
*
802.11ac is backwards compatible with 802.11b, g and n. This means you can buy an 802.11ac-equipped device and it will work just fine with your existing router.... because mostly router in UK will have AC signal.. and if u buy notebook with ac wifi... you fully utilised it speed and its strength...

it doesnt matter if you buy 802.11a, 802.11b/g/n.. because.. it still can be use just cant fully utilised speed only.

802.11ac currently the newest generation of Wi-Fi signaling in popular use, 802.11ac utilizes dual band wireless technology, supporting simultaneous connections on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands.

+south east asia market, except singapore have different kind of notebook at the market. singapore at least have variant notebook lineup. nod.gif
