Noticed a lack of information on this topic hence ill open a thread on this being a shoe lover.

We should not be fooled by the general misconception that running shoes are suitable for gym. They are not.

Serious lifters know which are the good stuff. So share whats yours, where can we get them and how to keep em clean.

Heres mine:

Inov8 Flite 235

Bought from: Key Power Malaysia

Age:1month

user posted image

Pros: Best lifting shoe I have used thus far. Zero drop, extremely comfy and perfect for squats with the solid heel support

Cons: Gets dirty easily

Under Armour Micro G Elevate

Bought from: Under Armour Tokyo

Age: 4monts

user posted image

Pros: Nice and solid shoe. Stable base for bench pressing and your usual gym workouts

Cons: Too stiff for crossfit type of WOD. Box jumps, cleans etc might not be suitable. Havent really done WODs in them

Your goal, budget all playing their role when you choose your gym shoe.

Even cheap hard flat sole shoe is working perfectly fine. I did own a pair of do-win powerlifting shoe, ~rm150 from china. works fine for me.

Used to use my retired running shoes for gym. Couple of years ago bought a Puma Faas 250 just for gym. Recently got a Puma TX-3 .. tht I sometimes use for legs day.. then I've been eyeing Nike Flex Supreme TR3 since last year, but when I finally decided to buy the outlet didn't have my size... so I went to Studio R Pyramid & found it's cousin, the Nike Flex Run 2014 going at 30% off. The rest is history... tongue.gif

I like http://thecrossfitshoes.com/reebok-mens-r-...5-training-shoe This shoe combines a lightweight, comfortable fit with optimal support and maximum durability. It was made like jack-of-all-trades ) But my Inov-8 F-Lite 195 shoes have shown themselves to be good. One of the main benefits of these shoes is the fact they're really lightweight and flexible. If you’re hopping and jumping, and skipping around, and running in the gym or outside, it’s really comfortable and gives a plenty of support.

I tried using my Ultraboost for gym workouts/weight training. Bad idea since the shoe sole is too soft as such lack stability. Start getting back pains due to lack of support by this running shoes. Bought Adidas Gym Warrior 2.0. Happy ever since.

Crossfit shoes can be used for weightraining. Dont use running shoes if possible since these days running shoes are designed with soft energy return material (boost, foam etc.) which is not stable when lifting weights and does notnprovide adequate body support. Back spine and lower back ache from my experience.

Not true at all. If you've been to any MMA gyms, they don't wear shoes at all that including me. Never mind that, powerlifters don't wear shoes as well, not all, but most prefer not to. Unless you fall under the category where people go to gym just to do curls and whatnot.

was on converse. shit cost more than 300 bucks and only lasted 4 months until the sole decided to come off. went to a cobler and he sewed it to the shoe frame, but it still somehow managed to come off. Always had bad hip and hamstring flexibility so each time squatting had to put a plate underneath to get the heels elevated (the butt will go on full blown winking if the heels were not elevated).

Then managed to get a pair of Inov 8 Faslift 325 for half the price.

recently got a pair of adidas adipower weightlighting shoes. this thing feels damn good.

If you are not doing heavy deadlifts and squats, crazytrain should be ok. Not sure how boost is on gym/training shoe.

Training shoes with stiff soles wont be good for cardio. I tried repper dsx on treadmill and felt like they are banging lol. However for occasional sprinting is ok. Dsx flyknit is a lot more but i feel im getting movement in the fronts - a bit soft for heavy lifts. You should be fine with crazytrain however i cant comment on the boost sole. Try before you buy.

Try the Nike Free x Metcons, I have these and they are comfortable enough for some light cardio and offer good support for squats/deadlifts.

I have very simply shoes out of something like it's made out of rag materials and that's really that. Do not buy something from leather in order not to damage it along with your foots. Hell you can do all that even in simple sandals and that's really that.
