Al Salat Al Oud. My sister bought this attar for me when she was in Dubai. Small bottle, the attar itself is even smaller. It's oud + jasmine.

The bottle is a stunner isn't it? How does it smell on you? Jasmine is one of my favorite notes.

Haven't really tested them out yet but my first impressions are :-
- Eau De Formosa - Smells like fruit punch. Don't think I would wear that.
- Eau De Nyonya - This basically smells like palm sugar syrup with smoke! Very authentic palm sugar smell that you might accidentally drink it. Too cloying for me. It should have something sharp to cut it.
- Binturong - I didn't get the usual animalic nuances (civet and beaver). It's vegetable on my skin then I realized it's because of iris (same vegetable iris in Iris Silver Mist by Serge Lutens). Doesn't project as much as the other two I've tried.

I should have ordered Miyako together. Maybe I'll just do that later. What are your thoughts?

Merry Christmas and happy new year everyone!
*
I took my tiny Binturong sample for a full wearing yesterday. I'm not sure if I get the oud, at least not the one I'm familiar with. I got some sweetness, castoreum, coffee, smoke, sandalwood and amber. Those notes were well-blended with labdanum being the major player on my skin and they revealed itself in stages. Didn't project far (maybe due to minimum application). Excellent longevity. I must say I quite enjoyed wearing it. Unfortunately, the 30ml extrait is $198 USD, which is way off my budget.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for my sample of much talked about Civet by Zoologist to arrive. We'll see how it compares to Binturong.

Smells like it's something pulled off from Xerjoff Oud Star collection, perhaps slightly less refined. Soapy jasmine, a little animalic oud to counter it in which otherwise would smell a very generic jasmine attar. Oh yes, the bottle is a stunner. Bulky solid crystal, very elaborated as if to hide the little amount of liquid that it holds.
That is very cool. I'm waiting a bunch of samples order from Luckyscent myself. Somehow it stuck in Poland, due to the item being misdirected.
*
Is it the Best of 2016 sample pack? The Issara by Dusita is an interesting one I wanna try but I'm saving the $ for other things first.

Wearing Chergui today. It's been a while since I last wore it. Not much ppl are talking about it now. Serge Lutens is one of my favorite houses. I plan to add more to my collection. Been eyeing on Fleurs d'Oranger.

Beware of the perfumes sold at lazada and 11street. The price is too good to be true.

For mainstream designer perfumes you can safely shop from http://my.bestbuy-world.com/ or from our bro marver.

Today I'm wearing another absolute favorite of mine from Serge Lutens - Ambre Sultan. Smells almost identical to Amber Absolute by Tom Ford. Technically, Ambre Sultan was released first. Granddaddy of all niche amber perfumes.

Nope, just a couple of Xerjoff. Wanna test it out on my skin before buying a full bottle. Granted, I'm okay with losing the item, it's a test buy smile.gif
My experience with the Xerjoff house is limited to Nio only. Wanted to see how it compares to Mosaic by Imaginary Authors, which I enjoyed wearing during the heat of the month many years ago. They both don't smell alike to my nose.

QUOTE
How would you rate it against Amouage Opus VI?
To my nose, it's more of a straight-up labdanum amber with some black pepper, sandalwood and a little booze. Quite linear. This one's a beast. Performance is on par with Interlude. If you're a fan of labdanum amber, you will dig this. I'm still a little regret for letting it go but I needed cash to buy another perfume at that time. Ambre Sultan is still my holy grail of labdanum amber. Opens up with in-your-face kitchen spices. Labdanum amber joins in during the mid and dries down to benzoin vanila.

Do you guys know where I can get miniatures/small amount ?

I've shortlisted a few :-

Chanel bleu
YSL la nuit
D&G the one
CH Men prive
Dior Sauvage

But would really like to test it out on longer hours.  I just need enough for a few days .

BTW any reputable places online to purchase without the worry that it is fake?

Finally, my samples have arrived. Actually got Miyako last week but I broke it when trying to remove bubble wrap. Luckily, Eugene Au, the perfumer and co-founder of Auphorie was so kind to re-send me the sample without extra cost. I'm actually wearing it today. I have to agree with Luca Turin this time, excellent juice right there. Really FB worthy for me.

I also got myself a complete Zoologist Perfumes sample set and a handwritten note from Victor Wong, the founder of Zoologist Perfumes. My first impression on Civet, not getting any civet yet. I get a lot of floral notes. Sprayed it again on different part of my skin, it smells different now. Reminds me a bit of La Nuit by Paco Rabanne.

Peruvian ambrette is pretty decent. Musk, sourced from plants. From what I can gather, Zegna uses natural ingredients in their Essenze collection (real oud, real ambrette, etc).
Wow that's hell of interestingf fragrances. Real civet?
*
You can only find real civet in vintages now. Modern perfumes use synthetic one. I'm wearing Beaver 2016 by Zoologist sample today. I tried the original one and it was really animalic. This 2016 version is rather disappointing. It's very, aquatic.

Got my Xerjoff Zafar sample for a proper testing. There is nothing even remotely fecal about it to my nose. Definately not 'barnyard'. Sweet slight animalic, pepper, incense, apple, woody (fresh furniture). I totally dig it, might get a full bottle.

I don't wear it to work, out of fear being offensive. Applied a little dab of Xerjoff Mamluk.
*
Have u come across any animalic Xerjoff yet? Would like to try it.

Sampling Fleurs d'Oranger and Fille en Aiguilles both by Serge Lutens. One is tuberose jasmine bomb and the other is Church incense with pine. Fleurs d'Oranger could be my cheaper/easier-to-purchase alternative to Tubereuse Criminelle minus the camphor.

Outright disgusting animalic, nope. I don't get blue cheese smells that people are raving in reviews either. Could it be my Zafar batch version?. Animalic Jasmine, give Al-Khat a try.

Where do you purchase your samples? You seem to own the exquisite ones. I wish we do t have to order it from States. The wait is killing!
*
Thanks! I'll keep Al-Khat in mind.

I used to order my samples from surrendertochance.com but not anymore ever since they hiked up their shipping. I got my Serge Lutens samples from decantshop.com. Usually delivered in less than 2 weeks. Both are from the states. I'll try to order from perfume house if possible. Better value.

This is where I store my cheaper perfumes. In a drawer away from direct sunlight, heat and moist. Sorry for the blur picture.

In the freezer? tongue.gif

Fridge is a big NO NO. Way too cold for perfumes. A wine cooler is better if you really need one. Bear in mind that a sudden temperature changes will spoil your perfumes (of course you can decant it out and keep the bottles inside). Room temperature is fine for storing perfumes. There are still sections in my house that is cool enough. I keep my higher-end perfumes in wardrobe actually, which has more room. Not because it's expensive but their boxes aren't usually the most storage-friendly.

It's now RM 666?  ohmy.gif  When I bought Miyako in April 2016,I paid RM 295 only(75USD at that time). But to be fair,my bottle and box is nowhere near bro ton3, mine is just a simple packaging so I guess you've got what you've paid for.
*
It's USD$148 now. I believe the previous version was an oil-based EdP. Current version is a perfumer's alcohol-based Extrait de Parfum. I'm wearing it today. Ever since my sample leaked into my gym bag, it'd been haunting me for months. I just had to pull the trigger. Oh BTW, it's always out of stock. Tried one of the given samples, L'HISTOIRE OUBLIÉE DE DUNHUANG, it was quite good. It's also currently out of stock.

Oh yeah, since it's shipped locally, I don't have to worry about Malaysian custom officers ripping my box apart.

I see. Then you got it at a very good deal. I should have bought it earlier when it was still cheaper.

i totally agreed with you.Unfortunate for us for being late.
I can imagine how this scent haunted you when u mentioned that it's leaked inside your bag...lol

How's life with your baby? Nowadays, I bring my perfume bottle with me and only spray it when I'm in office. Don't want my precious inhaling my strong perfume.

I'm wearing L'HISTOIRE OUBLIÉE DE DUNHUANG for the second time today. I might get that next once it's back in stock. It's that good.
