KOLKATA: A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) aircraft made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Tuesday after it developed a fuel leak. The plane was returning to Singapore from Kathmandu after delivering relief material for earthquake survivors when the pilot detected the snag.

According to sources, the C-130 Hercules, a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft, built by Lockheed Martin developed problems shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and contacted Kolkata ATC to report a fuel leak.

Following the request, the ATC cleared traffic to enable the plane to land without delay. The plane arrived at 1.25 pm with fire tenders in readiness lest the leakage led to a mishap like fire from friction during touchdown. The landing, however, passed without incident. The aircraft was then taken to the cargo bay and parked.

The pilot later said he was able to plug the leak while the plane was still in the air. A team has been requisitioned from RSAF's maintenance wing to inspect the aircraft and carry out necessary repairs before it takes to the air again and returns to Singapore.

Incidentally, a C-130 aircraft of the RSAF had landed in Kolkata airport a week earlier too after it was diverted to the city from Kathmandu due to massive congestion at Tribhuvan International Airport. Back then, it was carrying personnel to Nepal from Singapore for relief work. The plane could fly to Kathmandu only on Tuesday.

A day later, the RSAF deployed another C 130 aircraft to evacuate its residents stranded in Nepal. Altogether, 89 Singaporeans and permanent residents were evacuated last Wednesday. It could not be confirmed whether the aircraft that landed on Tuesday was the same one diverted a week ago.

Islamabad, Pakistan - A Pakistani military helicopter carrying foreign diplomats in the mountainous region of Gilgit-Baltistan has crashed, killing six people, the military says.

The dead included two ambassadors, two wives of ambassadors and the helicopter's two Pakistani pilots.

The dead include Norwegian Ambassador Leif Larsen, Philippines Ambassador Domingo Lucenario Jr, and the wives of the Malaysian and Indonesian ambassadors to Pakistan.

Dutch ambassador Marcel de Vink and Polish ambassador Andrzej Ananicz were injured in the crash.

The MI-17 helicopter was carrying 17 people, including 11 foreigners, the military’s spokesperson Major-General Asim Bajwa said in an earlier statement.

The 13 survivors had "varying degrees of injuries". The injured are being treated at the Combined Military Hospital at Jutial, about 30km away from the area in which the crash occurred.

The aircraft crashed in the Naltar Valley area of Gilgit-Baltistan, about 300km north of the capital Islamabad.

PELABUHAN KLANG – Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia (APMM) hari ini menerima sebuah lagi kapal ronda Kelas Bay daripada kerajaan Australia selepas yang pertama diterima pada 27 Feb lepas.

Ketua Pengarahnya, Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish berkata kapal yang dinamakan ‘Kapal Maritim (KM) Satria’ itu akan ditempatkan di Johor Baharu bagi menjalankan tugas-tugas menangani kegiatan penyeludupan manusia di wilayah maritim selatan.

“Wilayah selatan merupakan kawasan panas dalam kegiatan penyeludupan manusia ke negara ketiga dan saya lihat, kapal ronda itu lebih diperlukan untuk tugasan tersebut di sana.

Namun, tidak bermakna kapal itu digunakan semata-mata membanteras kegiatan penyeludupan tetapi kita akan mempelbagaikan tugasannya untuk menjaga keselamatan maritim negara,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas upacara penyerahan dan memberi nama kapal berkenaan di sini hari ini.

Turut hadir pada upacara tersebut adalah Timbalan Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Australia Dr Angella MacDonald.

Kapal ronda Kelas Bay yang pertama, ‘KM Perwira’ yang diterima APMM pada Februari lepas kini ditempatkan di Lumut, Perak bagi membasmi jenayah rentas sempadan.

Generally for Tank, do they need huge crew to maintain it on both US and Russian tech? No point if we buy some good tank but difficult to maintain.. Eg like Eurofighther need to be babysit
