A MiG-27 aircraft of Indian Air Force crashed at Tantipara here tonight killing two civilians on the ground though the pilot ejected safely.

An IAF spokesperson in Delhi said there were two civilian casualties.

SDO Samiran Mondal said the pilot suffered some injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The aircraft took off from Hasimara airbase at 8.20 p.m. and crashed near Alipurduar town around 8.30 p.m.

Due to the impact of the crash, some of the tin shades of nearby shanties were blown away.

Red Cross officials were at the site besides an IAF team.

A court of inquiry has been ordered.

Malaysia uses german track mainly to lower down the ground pressure.

Someone posted in the defence.pk forum that the ground pressure of the PT-91M is 13.2psi 0,94kg/cm2.
The German track is due to easy handling, lower maintenance, maneuverability even in difficult terrain & keeping the downtime to a minimum.

A Thai soldier has been charged with murder after shooting dead two of his colleagues at an army barracks in the insurgency-battered south, police said today.

More than 6,300 people, the majority of them civilians, have died in over a decade of conflict pitting troops and police against rebels seeking greater autonomy for the Muslim-majority provinces bordering Malaysia.

A 57-year-old soldier from the southern province of Phatthalung opened fire late on Friday at a barracks in the Yaring district of Pattani province, killing two other soldiers, local police chief Montri Kongwatmai told AFP.

"The soldier killed two other soldiers and then surrendered himself," he said. "Our investigation shows he had a personal conflict with them."

The soldier has been charged with murder and will face trial in a military court, Montri added.

Four soldiers were killed when their Black Hawk helicopter went down in the central province of Meta on May. 10.

Two others on board were injured.

A U.S. Marine Corps UH-1Y from HMLA-469 has gone missing in Nepal on May 12. There are six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers aboard.

The crew had reported problems with the fuel system before contact was lost. Three MV-22s carried out a 90-minute search to no avail. The aerial search was suspended due to nightfall and ground search by Nepalese troops are continuing.

MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- A U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211 crashed at 1:30 p.m. (GMT), today, shortly after launching from the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) operating in the Arabian Gulf.

The two personnel aboard the strike fighter ejected from the aircraft, survived the crash and were quickly recovered by search and rescue personnel from the ship. The recovered Naval Aviators are being evaluated by medical personnel aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt. Initial reports indicate both are conscious and alert, and without serious injury.

The crash was not a result of hostile activity.

Strike Fighter Squadron 211 is based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, and is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 1. USS Theodore Roosevelt, with its embarked carrier air wing, is currently in the U.S. 5th Fleet supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, conducting strike operations against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.

The Navy is investigating the cause of the crash.

The accident occurred at the BAF Base Zahurul Haque next to the Shah Amanat International Airport around 11am on Wednesday.

An Inter Services spokesperson said that it was an MI-17 helicopter and the injured were the pilots and the two co-pilots.

They are Squadron Leader ‘Shafayet’, Pilot Officer ‘Fuad’ and Sergeant ‘Ferdous’.

Shafayet and Ferdous have been sent to the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital and Fuad to the Navy Hospital in Chittagong.

“A distress call was sent from the helicopter to our control room around 10:35 citing mechanical failure. It then crashed near our runway around 11:06am,” the airport’s Manager Nur E Alam said.

Taking off and landing were suspended at the airport from 10:35am to 11:00am.

Air Force officials, who were at the scene, said they used this type of chopper for training, rescue and transportation.

An official said a problem was detected in the helicopter right after it took off around 10:30am. The pilot sent a message to the control tower for emergency landing but he could not control it.

A fire broke out as soon as the chopper crashed.

Ehsan crawled to safety while the others were rescued by crew present at the airport.

The wreckage of a US military helicopter that went missing with eight people on board while delivering aid in quake-hit Nepal has been found near the Chinese border, the Nepalese army said Friday.

Major General Binoj Basnet said the helicopter, which disappeared on Tuesday, had been spotted from the air in a remote forest around 70 kilometres (40 miles) northeast of Kathmandu.

"We don't know if there are any survivors, we have yet to confirm that," Basnet told AFP by telephone.

"We have sighted the wreckage from the air, we are now trying to land in the area and get more information."

The US military said earlier that the UH-1Y Huey was carrying six US Marines and two soldiers from the Nepalese army when it went missing during a relief flight in eastern Nepal.

ALOR SETAR, May 16 (Bernama) - The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will get five Pilatus PC-7 Mark II aircraft by end of next year to add to its fleet of training aircraft.

Its chief, General Datuk Seri Roslan Saad said the five aircraft were purchased last year from Pilatus Aircraft, Switzerland, to be used by trainee pilots at the Air Force College (KTU) here.

He said so far they have 16 PC-7 Mark II aircraft purchased in 1999 and 2006, but the number was not sufficient to accommodate the number of trainee pilots at a time.

He said the purchase of these aircraft is to replace the 32 Pilatus PC-7 Mark I aircraft which are over 30 years old, purchased by RMAF since 1983.

"The more than 30 years old aircraft will be disposed off in stages. We hope with these new aircraft, we will be able to produce more pilots in the future," he said after presenting Flight Wings to 27 young RMAF officers here Saturday.

Roslan said they would also hire six Eurocopter C120 helicopters from local companies over a period of five years, for training trainee pilots in KTU.

HONOLULU (AP) — A Marine Corps Osprey aircraft made a hard landing in Hawaii on Sunday and 12 Marines were taken to a hospital, military officials said.

The tilt-rotor MV-22 Osprey can take off and land like a helicopter but has wings to fly like an airplane. It had a "hard-landing mishap" at about 11 a.m., the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit said in a statement.

Officials didn't provide details about the conditions of the Marines, who were training at Bellows Air Force Station on Oahu.

The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is based at Camp Pendleton in California and is in Hawaii for about a week for training.

Donald Gahit said he saw smoke rising in the air from Bellows when he looked outside his house after hearing sirens pass by.

"At first I thought it was clouds, but it was moving fast and it was pretty dark," said the Waimanalo resident.

(Reuters) - One U.S. marine was killed and 12 were hospitalized after their aircraft suffered a "hard landing," on Sunday during a training exercise in Hawaii, ABC News and local media reported.

A Marine spokesman said the accident happened about 11:40 a.m. local time on Sunday, leaving one dead. The other 21 marines on board were taken to a hospital, and at least 12 were admitted for their injuries, according to ABC News and local news outlet Hawaii News Now.

The marines were members of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, participating in training in an MV-22 Osprey at the time of the accident, the local news outlet reported.
