To me, it was pretty nice to return to wide, open teambased battles after a long break from RTCW:ET (mainly because there were no more good servers to play on). BF2142 will hold me well until Quake Wars releases next year.

First, the b****ing.

No unlocks make me sad. At least put like... 3 unlock points so people can muck around. Vehicles and campers are ownage in the demo since not many things can take them down easily, save for well-placed rockets and other vehicles. No EMP nades/mines, no C4. And no Frag Nades, so Titan assaults when lots of people are hunkered in is pretty crap.

Inside Titan battles are still lagfests. Warping everywhere.
I need to get used to the hit detection of this game. Random spraying: teh owned by proning people. And flying needs some getting used to.

The good thing: It's goddamn fun

Titan wont be jerky is the comander will just stop moving it.
bf2142 never spray and pray cause the cone is too much bigger compared to bf2

I always have this problem of people killing me with ARs even when we both prone at the same time.

from what little gameplay "moments" that I got, I got a very strong impression that I am playing as GDI in Command and Conquer, but fighting some other army besides NOD, oh and no tiberium. Like an alternate C&C future The flying ships remind me of the orca, and the titan is like a Kodiak.

learning to master the Recon class. its a pain, especially when there's walkers , apcs, and tanks, oh my!

the map is freaking huge, (for a 32 player map) and blah, while walking, barely can find any humans in sight.

chances are the titan will shoot my ass off.

Its fun to camp right on top of the tower right next to Silo 4. or was it 2? Anyway, even as Assault I got a 5 kill streak defending the silo from enemies, just sniping them with single shots. A tank got me though :/
Tried with Recon and pretty much got the same results.

Getting sniped in this game is kinda frustrating, since the area is so huge you have NO idea where the sniper is, unless someone places an UAV or happens to see the sniper. I did knife one in the back though. Good times.

after always getting kill when both using same weapon, now i always aim for the head haha, need to learn to fire in control burst instead of spraying with the assault rifle though

the gun emplacement near the silo is fun to use, took out tank, 2 jeep, that's bout 8 kills since the tank was carrying 3 person n 1 jeep had 2 person in just a short span of time

atm the walker are a pain to take out, coz we can't unlock any emp grenades in the demo, onli try out the walker in conquest mode, a bit disorienting at first, they should just let u press a key to center the turret and body, instead of having to turn manually

still dunno how to fly the gunship and dropship, usually just crash haha

overall very fun game, i especially like the titan mode. usually if my team titan shield is down i just camp at the entry point and take thm down as they drop from the pod

it's good...played several hours just now, on Titan and Conquest, both are good...no lag at all, i impressed with VGA for sure...

what are the pods for anyways? I use them to dive down to the surface

pods are to board the titan and also dive from transport ships
currently 3 vehicles have pods which are transport choppers , apc and the titan itself

pods from the Apc since beta 2 can only jump really high near the titan

pods can be used to kill things as well. like mechs...

it's near the gunnery area in the titan. Look for doors that has a symbol on them then enter and press use or something. Haven't reached there yet.

I'm not very impressed with this demo.

One of the main letdowns to me is they completely left out the unlocks.FFS,just a few unlocks on the demo wouldnt hurt their sales at all.

The demo is laggy,even playing on a singapore server with a double digit and one of the lowest ping in the whole server,at some point it feels like playing on a server with 300 ping+.The game stutters like hell while inside the titan.

Another big wtf is the APC.
In 2007,it could go from the land straight to the middle of the ocean(waves doesnt exist in BF2)

Unlike BF2,this demo failed to convince me to get the full game.

Top 10 Worst Things About Battlefield 2142

the game is hardly even out yet. I'd give them time to get things smoothed out. Besides it's not like they can't patch it afterwards. Sure there are complaints but majority out there is very happy with the game. That's all that matters, at least as far as they are concerned I think.

The map loads a LOT faster than BF2 for me! I like the futuristic GDI theme. The whole idea that lasers are not very implemented is because Dice did not want to alienate the bullet loving BF2 fans. I am happy that they still mainly used bullets. Games that used plasma and all that energy weapon just turns me off somehow. They lack the pin sharp feeling of traditional bullets. Arties are cool too. Besides it is just a demo. With later upgrades (or patch) maybe there are higher tech arties (baby blackhole, H-Bomb) , who knows?

true that, the map seems to load quite faster than BF2.
and the Menu is much much easier to access, rather than the laggy BF2 with the video.. bleh, had to deactivate the video for a smoother menu.

well, i think the map loading is still the same as bf2. feels faster when the maps loading for the 2,3,4... time maybe due its already cache in memory (since its loading the same map again & again). but the first time loading feels the same for me.

as for the game, even though i prefer bf2, there is still nothing much wrong with bf2142. the control / graphics / performance is okay for me. played on GA with 3 digits but i didnt find it that much difficult to walk in d titan. walking in an aircraft carrier in bf1942 is much more challenging.

i do think there will be more ppl that will like this game. & i can feel there will be a national compy for the game.. let just pray for it (but i still prefer they having bf2 tourney )

That guy has a serious gripe about 2142.

Personally, i find 2142 loads faster than BF2 for me. It's also less harder on my system resources than BF2 although the requirements are higher.

And if you played BF2 for the Xbox360, you'll notice that the coding for it is one of the best for the Xbox360 games. Most probably they optimized BF2142 although Dice is saying the game engine is totally new but contains some BF2 coding.

at this moment after trying the demo twice.i dont feel like buying the game yet and very dissapointed.the game is sooo laggy. im running on p4 2.4C at 3.0 with 1.2gb ram and 6600gt, i'm lagging like hell!can't even shoot anything or even admire the graphic. i even set the the lowest setting with 800x600 res.still lag like hell and it took me nearly 10 mins to load a map....nevermind...at this moment i'll just enjoy my pre ordered NFS Carbon. good luck EA!

hm.. wierd i'm using 6600gt as well 1gb RAM and i feel the opposite way from u Zadan. i dun feel any lag at medium settings, and map loading time less than 50 sec.

someone will abuse the "Titan attack score". u try to destroy those titan gun with AA gun, then when the guys repair it, u destroy it again, and keep doing that, u will get points very fast.

if only bf2 load as fast as 2142 for sure i will play bf2 rather than css

There is a glitch apparently, u can somehow fly the troop transport ship upwards underneath a moving titan and it will end up inside the main loading bay. I haven't tried it myself but there are reports that it has happened. Some say it is hard to reproduce. some say no. Anyway Dice better fix that up pronto!

I totally agree on you on it loading faster than bf2. Heck, i actually like it! But then the bad part comes in the form of screwed up graphics. For instance, has anyone ever landed on a titan to find out that the whole goddamn thing is black in colour? and you've no idea where to run or where to hide? plain blasphemy i tell ya. But then again, i'll just have to be patient about it and see how the real deal is. Anyone pre-ordered their copies already?

There're still some bugs with movement on the Titan and in the Walker

1. On the Titan or even anywhere else, sometimes you keep moving as if your body's shaking everywhere

2. Same goes with the Walker, sometimes it keeps taking a step forward and another step back even when you're not moving

3. There's a bug when the Walker glides instead of walks

maybe ur using the sliding mech or walker on skates. anyway nice battle today. really neck to neck. pawn ur ass xaviergaymo!

Well, from what I've observed, the Titan's interiors only get laggy when the Titan is moving.

Kind of an inersia bug that hopefully DICE has fixed in the retail version

That's why when you die in the Titan, your corpse slides about

even in the official forums, some did had same lagg in the Titan.
Some says it's server bug, only in demo.

Until I get a 3Ghz cpu, 2GB RAM...then satisfied.

Silly people that try to knife headon.
Sidestep and unload bullets into them.
Although it is hard to keep your cool when someone is charging towards you.

I set my settings all at medium then set to low for dynamic shadow, lighting and effects. Lag free with 7300GS. In Titan, all i face is only the client syncing issues.. where ppl slides and body slides.

You can make a squad at the spawn window ( press Enter ) click on the squads tab. Also, you can invite members to your squad and yes, you can choose.

I guess with good tactics and excellent Commander = success.
After controlling a silo...use a sniper rifle + tank destroyer soldier and hide.
Kill any threats on the silo.


Sometimes the Commander a bit stupid...can't he see when there are a bunch of enemies on a certain silo?
Why didn't he ordered an EMP strike.

I always use air strike in Battlefield 2.

Also, when he saw a silo went neutral from blue...order the EMP to prevent it to become
red.

oh yeah, after the battle...Commander get points x2 correct?
I saw 30+...40+.

Mine was 20+ alone...I guess I'm a Commander material huh?
But I'm more of a soldier.
Take silo's A.S.A.P and kill as many threats.

EMP strike doesnt kill infantry.
there will be orbital strikes etc in the retail version that will do damage.

Yeah, since a lot of newcomers to the genre are starting with BF2142 so many of them want to try out being commander.
It's not exactly a negative thing in my opinion, but it does give other players on the same team a hard time


So, tips for any newbies: If you want to try out being a Squad Leader or Commander, go ahead
But remember to be courteous and give other people a chance

And, if you're not familiar with the roles of a SL or Cmmndr, just ask for help. Many people would actually be glad to help if you just ask

if you're not familiar, go practice on single player, thats what its for.

SL's now got new toys depending how many ppl in the squad, so dont have to rely that much on commander when attacking points.
so if got a newbie SL, i doubt anyone is gonna join your squad.

Owh...just curious, coz suddenly a lot of people in the thread Really exciting!

In 2142,you(Squad Leader) order your squad to attack(or defend) a flag or a silo,you will get a Squad Leader Succes point while the squad member recieves Squad member point if your squad members kiling/healing/resupplying/work in a squad.
So Squad is now more important for points.
