I've got good news for all interested.. The Samsung Evo 860 does work with the laptop. Installed it, used Samsung software to migrate the OS.. Smooth.. So now, there are 2 drives in it.. Using the 1TB as a complimentary data drive..Next up will be RAM upgrade.. Get it up to full 16GB.. Maybe next year..

hi guys, i would like to get some pointers on my VN7-591G-744N which i have been using since 2015 and Im not so well verse with laptop. i decided i want to install a M.2 SSD and upgrade ddr3 ram.
1) if i install a M.2 SSD, can i still keep the original hard disk that came with the laptop? Any brands or models should i look for a M.2 SSD say 240gb?
2) i was told there is ddr3 ram that is low voltage, which im not sure what is it about. Does my laptop works with low voltage or better to get a high voltage one? Any brands of ddr3 ram that I should be looking at?
In addtion, i want to send the laptop for internal cleaning. Is it necessary to do thermal pasting too?
Heaps of thanks guys

1. We have the same model and yes. As per my post from last year. You can have both an M.2 SSD (2280 form format) and the bundled SSHD together.. I strongly recommend you getting the Samsung Evo 860 too and better to make it 512GB instead. 240/256GB IMO is little and even as just OS and programs install, can fill up very quickly. Toss two or more decent games and you'll find yourself needing more space. Windows OS likes plenty free space to roam free.
2. I believe ours is the DDR3L RAM type. So be sure to get that instead for compatibility. There are 2 slots, so you can either have a better single 16GB unit and say sell the current one or buy an 8GB unit to reach max. Unfortunately, I haven't upgraded mine yet, nor done any research as to the best compatible. So do let me know once you've found a suitable one.
As for thermal pasting? I'm unsure on that too.. Haven't had my unit cleaned.. Where do you intend doing yours? The folks at Lowyat Plaza are very good. They opened and closed back.. No issues till date. So Better to do all in one shot than risk reopening again. Cuz its a tricky laptop to open.
