Hi all, 10 Mbps user here at Shah Alam. Changed from 4mbps Streamyx after serious performance degradation.

So far so good. Youtube 1080p streaming smoothly consistently. The stock Technicolor router does time out once in a while, so most probably will get another router to replace it.

Not a gamer so not really sure much about latencies. Seems its the common complaint about Maxis Fibre.

Anyone having issues with Maxis Fibre at Shah Alam? Getting stuck at 1 Mb DL & 3 Mb UL consistently for local speedtest servers. Have a 10 Mb package.

Hi bro, if you had subscribed for a few static IP ranges, you would have obtained 2 sets of Static IPs (Public WAN & Public LAN)

Public WAN would have a /30 subnet (255.255.255.252) so there are only 2 usable IPs. One assigned to your router's WAN interface, and one configured at the ISP next hop gateway.

E.g
1.1.1.1 -> MAXIS Gateway IP
1.1.1.2 -> Router WAN IP obtain after dialing PPPoE

Public LAN would usually start with a /29 subnet (255.255.255.248), so there are about 6 usable IPs. It will typically be a very different range from the Public WAN IP

E.g
20.20.20.1
20.20.20.2
20.20.20.3
20.20.20.4
20.20.20.5
20.20.20.6

You would configure 20.20.20.1 to the LAN port facing your LAN network. Then you assign an available IP to your web server such as 20.20.20.2. Hence, your server IP config would be:

IP: 20.20.20.2
Mask: 255.255.255.248
GW: 20.20.20.1

If you perform a trace route to the internet, the result would be like:
1st Hop: 20.20.20.1 -> Router LAN Port
2nd Hop: 1.1.1.1 -> ISP Gateway

Your router will have dynamic routing so there is no need to specify static routes, since your WAN interface & LAN interface are directly connected.

For the customer service, Its pretty much SOP to check the status of the LED lights first. There was one time my AUTH led was blinking while LINK was off on the ONT. Called them, told them I had Internet problem and the AUTH led was blinking. Straight away he said he will arrange for on site because it is already indicative of possible physical issue (fiber, modem, etc). Took less than a minute to open the ticket. So I feel that part of the process is smooth and not waste time checking other symptoms.

Of course, to reach the customer service rep in the first place, need to listen to their promotions, they should seriously get rid of them. Just makes customers more frustrated.

ALSO, seem to be issues when Maxis coordinates with TM for on site troubleshooting, since you need TM guys on site regardless. Causes a lot of delay if there is miscommunication between them. I know Maxis broadband has a best effort SLA but it is still back to back with Unifi SLA. So if you want faster on site support, better go with Unifi unless can tolerate some more delay.

Sorry double post.

I actually managed to do away with the Thompson router and used an Asus wifi router instead.

I used this method since I have the Huawei HG850a BTU to get the Huawei to handle VOIP.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2710206

Worked for about close to a year but somehow the VOIP wasn't functioning anymore. No idea what changed on Maxis side since I did not change anything.

I got fed up going back and forth with Maxis tech and insisted that I have my set up back using the Thompson router. I wasn't going to do additional work and at the end I got a Cisco SPA122 ATA to handle the VOIP connection. Never had a problem since.  wink.gif
If you want fast and stable wifi connection, ditch the Thompson router.

Cool! Always wondered if that was possible. How did you connect the ATA to the custom router? Is it inline between the router & ONT? What config did you need to dial the SIP server?

Hi guys. Encountering a strange issue here with IPTV on android box for Maxis fibre connection. Observing that all the IPTV streaming channels disconnect/buffers every 15 seconds or so. If youtube or Netflix on the android box, no buffering issues. I installed a ping app and ran it during the IPTV buffering/disconnect periods, did not observe any packet loss.

If I bypass the Maxis fibre and connect the android box to Maxis 4G hotspot, no buffering issues at all for the IPTV streaming. So nothing wrong with the IPTV service or the android box itself.

I suspect that there is something wrong with the router or somewhere upstream on Maxis fibre. Anyone else with an android box facing this issue or can suggest a solution?

Using TP Link Archer C5v. Currently don't have an extra router to test with. Tried the below but still encountered the buffering issue:

- LAN cable with both fixed and DHCP on the android box as well as via wifi 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz
- Disable IPv6 on router
- Disable firewall on router
- Enabled/Disabled QoS function
- Disable USB functions
- Use VPN app on android box (Singapore and US tunnels)
- For the above changes, rebooted router, ONU and android box each time.
