for my server use loh. i will be more easier for me if there is a public IP for server, especially my server is linux base which is using iptable to do routing, somemore performing 4 virtualization.......
Hi bro, if you had subscribed for a few static IP ranges, you would have obtained 2 sets of Static IPs (Public WAN & Public LAN)
Public WAN would have a /30 subnet (255.255.255.252) so there are only 2 usable IPs. One assigned to your router's WAN interface, and one configured at the ISP next hop gateway.
E.g
1.1.1.1 -> MAXIS Gateway IP
1.1.1.2 -> Router WAN IP obtain after dialing PPPoEPublic LAN would usually start with a /29 subnet (255.255.255.248), so there are about 6 usable IPs. It will typically be a very different range from the Public WAN IP
E.g
20.20.20.1
20.20.20.2
20.20.20.3
20.20.20.4
20.20.20.5
20.20.20.6You would configure 20.20.20.1 to the LAN port facing your LAN network. Then you assign an available IP to your web server such as 20.20.20.2. Hence, your server IP config would be:
IP: 20.20.20.2
Mask: 255.255.255.248
GW: 20.20.20.1If you perform a trace route to the internet, the result would be like:
1st Hop: 20.20.20.1 -> Router LAN Port
2nd Hop: 1.1.1.1 -> ISP Gateway
Your router will have dynamic routing so there is no need to specify static routes, since your WAN interface & LAN interface are directly connected.
