You can keep the TG784n as back up router. The technician is just a sub-con of a contractor of Maxis, he will tell you he has to swap it with the new router and return the TG784n. No !! don't buy his story. TG784n is your property under the previous contract.
Search my post few pages back on how I got to keep my TG784n during the router upgrade.
Maxis Archer C5v's 5Ghz signal is very weak, not suitable for 2-storey house. The existing TG784n has better 2.4Ghz signal strength than the new Maxis Archer C5v 2.4Ghz.
Agreed on the weak signal.Search my post few pages back on how I got to keep my TG784n during the router upgrade.

Living on high rise.
Previously when I go down to my basement, still can get very weak signal.
Now the moment I exit my house door, no more signal available.
But the signal within my living room has improve tremendously(I am placing the modem and router in my master bedroom).
With the previous router, speed fluctuating about 50% in the living room, which is only 200 meter away.
For one storey house or high rise, this new router considered as a good improvement.
