QUOTE Saudis Should Send Troops Instead of Asking US to Fight ISIL - Senator WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Saudi Arabian government must be responsible for stability in the Middle East and should send its own military to fight the Islamic State (ISIL) rather than demand that the United States undertake such actions, US Senator Bernie Sanders said in a statement. http://sputniknews.com/us/20150307/1019176293.html Attached thumbnail(s) |

Iran to Unveil New Missile Defense System Tehran plans to introduce a new missile defense system on April 18, on the occasion of the Army Day in Iran, said Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli, the commander of the Iranian Air Defense Force, according to Fars News Agency. © East News/ AP Photo/Jamejam Online, Chavosh Homavandi Iranian-made missile defense system called the Talash 3, also known as Endeavor-3, is capable of shooting down targets at a range of more than 200 kilometers. “The capability and might of the Armed Forces, specially Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base, will be displayed to the enemies again and we will once again see tumult among the ill-wishers,” Esmayeeli said. According to Esmayeeli, Iran already has the safest airspace in the Middle East, with 3,600 locations spots under its control. The country aims to increase the number to 5,000 locations in the future. The Brigadier General also added that Iran is currently working to launch several new hi-tech radar systems, capable of tracing and identifying small flying objects. “Arash 2 radar system with the capability of discovering small flying objects which is based on the world’s state-of-the-art technology is one of the latest achievements,” Esmayeeli said. While tracing enemy drones, Iran also plans to increase the production of its own Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), as the country’s Air Defense Force announced last month. Last November, Iran unveiled its newly developed drone named “Ababil 3” that can fly for eight hours non-stop on the altitude of 4,500 kilometers (15,000 feet). http://sputniknews.com/military/20150307/1019204800.html This post has been edited by BorneoAlliance: Mar 8 2015, 11:11 AM Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE Saudi Arabia beat India Becomes largest defence market for US In 2014, global defence trade increased for the sixth straight year to $64.4 billion, up from $56.8 billion. “Defence trade rose by a landmark 13.4 percent over the past year,” said Ben Moores, senior defence analyst at IHS Aerospace, Defence & Security. “This record figure has been driven by unparalleled demand from the emerging economies for military aircraft and an escalation of regional tensions in the Middle East and Asia Pacific.” Highlights from the IHS Global Defence Trade Report: Saudi Arabia topped India to become the largest defence market for US; The US supplied one-third of all exports and was the main beneficiary of growth; Saudi Arabia and UAE imported more than all of Western Europe; China is now the third largest importer of defence equipment, up from fifth; South Korea is the rising star of Asia Pacific exports; Despite a record 2014, Russian defence exports are set to drop; Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Sweden and Nigeria are the UK’s top trading partners. http://www.themarketbusiness.com/2015-03-0...e-market-for-us |

China defends South China Sea projects as lawful, says no threat to other nations QUOTE The work on the islands has become possibly the most visible sign of Xi's more muscular form of diplomacy, even as he promises more than $120 billion in funds for Africa, Southeast Asia and Central Asia. The move is also seen as a new initiative by China to counter U.S.’ Asia Pivot strategy under which Washington plans to deploy 60 per cent of its military assets in the region, which Beijing says is aimed at containing its rise. http://m.indiatvnews.com/news/world/china-...wful-23300.html Attached thumbnail(s) |

Top Officer Denies Iran’s Military Presence in Other Countries March 08, 2015 - 13:23 TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will never deploy its Armed Forces to the other countries on the pretext of maintaining or establishing peace, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said, stressing that assistance to neighboring Iraq is confined to advisory missions. printPrint Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, Firouzabadi firmly rejected Iran’s military presence in the neighboring countries when asked about the country’s reaction to the possible deterioration of situation in the region. “Defending a country’s territory should be done by that country’s own troop… Thus, deployment of armed forces to the other countries, on the pretext of defending or providing peace, is not acceptable,” the top officer announced, decrying the US military presence in the region. He also reiterated that Iran decided to provide Iraq with advisory assistance, because the Arab country’s military order had been disrupted by the Americans. Commenting on the advisory role of Commander of the IRGC Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani in Iraq, Firouzabadi said, “He knows his job well, he knows how to fight, and knows well how to organize and mobilize against the terrorist forces.” Tehran has already made it clear that its assistance to Iraq is confined to consultation and advisory help. Iranian officials say Iraq is capable of defending itself and there is no need for Iran to send any combat troops to the Arab country. The ISIL militants made advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing swaths of northern Syria. However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the popular forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive. http://www.tasnimnews.com/english/Home/Single/678223 Attached image(s) |

Brazil may buy China's J-15: Kanwa
China was probably trying to interest Brazil in its first first generation carrier-based fighter, the J-15, during the Zhuhai Air Show held in November last year, according to a March 6 report in Kanwa Defense Review, a Chinese-language military magazine based in Canada. The model of the J-15 fighter displayed at the air show was equipped with a WS10A Taihang turbofan engine designed by Shenyang Liming Aircraft Engine Company. While China equips most of its fighters with Russian engines, the designer of the Taihang said that the engine will be reliable enough for export. J-15 fighters could be operated from the flight deck of the Brazilian Navy's Clemenceau-class aircraft carrier, the Sao Paulo. A military cooperation agreement may be signed to enhance the relationship between the People's Liberation Army Navy and the Brazilian Navy. As Brazil is still constructing its first nuclear-powered submarine, the SNB Alvaro Alberto and China may assist in training the crew. China could also benefit from the experience of the Brazilian Navy in operating an aircraft carrier and carrier-based aircraft. A source from Beijing also told the magazine that China is pushing for the sale of the S20, the export version of the Type 039A submarine conventional-powered submarine, to Brazil. However, Brasilia did not confirm the rumors. China is continuing the improvement of J-15 fighters, as a steam-powered catapult will be installed on board China's future aircraft carrier, so stronger landing gear will be needed for the carrier-based fighter. http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclas...=20150307000003 Attached thumbnail(s) |

China Likely to give 3 Z-10 Attack Helos to Pakistan; Will this 'Gift' Support its R&D? China Likely to give 3 Z-10 Attack Helos to Pakistan; Will this 'Gift' Support its R&D? Pakistan is all set to welcome new attack helicopters from China -- the Z-10 -- in 2015 if reports are to be believed. Moreover, these attack helicopters will be given free of cost to China's "all-weather friend", Pakistan. China likely to gift 3 Z-10 Attack Helos to Pakistan.Peng Chen/Flickr The reports originated from unconfirmed Russian media, which claimed that China might be gifting three of its latest anti-tank attack helicopter that was designed by the Russian design bureau, Kamov, and further developed by the Chinese 602nd Research Institute. The primary missions for the Z-10 are anti-tank missions with air-to-air missions being its secondary capability. These according to Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet, will be added to the aviation fleet of Pakistani Army. This helicopter will be able to attack either on ground or on air. It has a range of 3-4 kilometres without appearing on the radar. The maximum speed of Z-10 is 300+ km/h with a range of 800+. It also has 23 mm or 30 mm autocannon mounted, 57 mm, 90 mm multi-barrel unguided rocket pods and four hard points for missiles. It is believed that this aircraft will be used by Pakistan against the ongoing terrorist operations following the TTP attack on a Pakistani Army School recently. However, the report has raised suspicion on how effective can Z-10 be in counterterrorist operations, since its engine has low power with a smaller payload and its defensive mechanisms and capabilities are weaker when compared with other attack helicopters around the world. Duowei claims that these helicopters are to counter balance against its enemy and neighbour, India. India has been domestically testing and developing attack helicopter, Light Combat Helicopter which will be complemented with that of the soon-to- be-brought American AH-64 Apache attack helicopters. The comparison between the two attack helicopters will be improper due to the gap in the power systems of the two helicopters -- Z-10 and Apaches. It is also important to note that in 2012, US had the United Technologies and its subsidiaries selling the engine control software to China, thus helping in the development of the Z-10 helicopter. However, China had denied buying or using the software. This 'gift' from China will be more than a gift as it will allow the Chinese to see how the Z-10s would perform during real combat situations. This will provide the Chinese some crucial data that might help to further the research and develop the attack helicopter. China has given weapons like MBT-3000 tank, the JF-17 Thunder combat aircrafts and the F-22P general purpose frigate to Pakistan in recent years. Pakistan will also be adding a batch of Mil Mi-35 'Hind E' heavy attack helicopters from Russia. Russia has already approved the deal, even though New Delhi was unhappy with such a deal that will arm its foremost rival. India and Russia have been close allies since the Cold War. http://www.ibtimes.co.in/china-likely-give...t-its-rd-619658 Attached thumbnail(s) |

India expands presence in Indian Ocean Region, offering military assistance QUOTE Guided by Asia pivot policy, USA shares India’s concern over Chinese role in South China Sea. Visiting commander of the US Pacific Fleet, Admiral Harry Harris, told a group of reporters: “We encourage China to follow international laws,” he said, the USA is also looking at placing “60 per cent of its naval fleet” in the Pacific region by 2020… Right now we have 60 per cent of our sub-surface fleet and 55 per cent of surface ships in the Pacific region… We are sending two ships to Japan and will bring an aircraft carrier in addition to the existing five in the Pacific,” Harris said. The major worry of Americans now is to contain China’s influence in Asia pacific and for this it supports India which also has a similar objective. . China has built seaports, power plants and highways across the small island nations. Its navy has also made forays into the Indian Ocean, including when submarines docked last year in Sri Lanka, rattling New Delhi, which has an uneasy relationship with Beijing. http://www.asiantribune.com/node/86538 Attached thumbnail(s) |

RUSSIA’S DEFENSE INDUSTRY: BREAKTHROUGH OR BREAKDOWN? – ANALYSIS QUOTE The actual state of Russia’s military-industrial complex remains something of a mystery. On the one hand, Russian defense firms are currently breaking post-Soviet export records and providing all branches of the Russian military with new weapons systems that boast cutting-edge capabilities (at least on paper). On the other, the country’s defense industry remains beset by countless production problems, while the armed forces have yet to confirm the effectiveness of its new systems in traditional combat operations. And while the Kremlin insists that it will continue to increase defense spending, it now faces unprecedented financial challenges due to the fall in the value of energy exports, the collapse in the value of the Ruble, and increasingly severe Western sanctions. QUOTE Could Su-35S Deal Edge Out Rafale in India? New Delhi Won't Comment on 5th-Gen Fighter Contract with Russia ABU DHABI — Moscow and New Delhi have agreed to perform design work in India on what Russia claims would be a "fifth generation" version of the Su-35, an agreement that may lead to an Indian variant of the fighter jet, the Russian Military Complex chief said. The announcement makes India the first country to sign a contract, however preliminary, for the S version of the Su-35. "We have been negotiating and have signed the intention protocol for the Su-35," Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov said during the IDEX show in Abu Dhabi last month. "Now we are working on designing ideas for this contract and on creating a manufacturing platform for the aircraft of the fifth generation." QUOTE Destroy Chinese military bases in PH now! This is the reality: China’s military leaders are rushing the construction of military bases in six different reef areas inside the Philippines’ exclusive 200 mile economic zone. The Philippines is doing nothing to immediately stop it. In a year’s time, these bases will practically be completed. Once they are completed fighter planes, bombers, helicopters, missiles and heavily armed warships will be stationed there. It will then be practically impossible to remove them. This is a very dangerous situation for the national security of the Philippines and surrounding countries. This is the same kind of grave danger for which President John Kennedy risked going to war when Russia was establishing missile bases in Cuba. He ordered the immediate blockade of Russian ships proceeding to Cuba to set up the bases. In an article I wrote last June, I warned about the initiation of the construction of these Chinese bases and the terrible danger that they posed. I suggested what the Philippines could do to destroy these bases, that the Philippines was not helpless and could and should absolutely destroy these bases. Terrible consequences would result if nothing is done. http://globalnation.inquirer.net/119379/de...ases-in-ph-now/ Attached image(s) |

Swiss make 'record military sale' to Russia Russia has acquired high-tech camouflage netting from Switzerland for a record €85 million, having placed the order before Bern imposed sanctions against Moscow over the Ukraine conflict, reports said on Sunday. The netting is designed to escape detection by radar and infra-red captors. The contract was signed in August 2014, before Bern decided to mirror EU sanctions against Russia, Swiss economic policy spokesman Fabian Maienfisch told the ATS news agency, confirming press reports. Maienfisch declined to name either the civilian Russian buyer or the Swiss supplier. The United States and the European Union applied a first round of sanctions against Moscow for its alleged military role in Ukraine in March 2014, followed by further penalties as the conflict has dragged on. The Swiss supplier shipped a first batch of the camouflage netting worth 54 million francs ($54.7 million) in October 2014, and the rest two months later, the Sunday weeklies Le Matin Dimanche and SonntagsZeitung reported. It was the largest ever sale of Swiss military materiel to a Russian company. http://www.thelocal.ch/20150309/swiss-make...-sale-to-russia This post has been edited by BorneoAlliance: Mar 9 2015, 07:48 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |
