Pro-Russian separatists withdraw nearly 500 heavy artillery pieces as per agreed during Minsk peace talks, but Ukraine remains defiant to calls by OSCE to withdraw heavy guns
![]() Pro-Russian separatists invite media representatives, including from western sources such as Reuters and CNN to cover its withdrawal of heavy artillery guns in accordance with the conditions of the recent Minsk II peace talks. Reuters journalists in rebel-held territory watched 10 trucks carrying howitzers roll through Makiyvka, near rebel-held Donetsk. Rebels said the guns were on their way from Donetsk toward Amvrosiyvka, a town far from the front and close to the Russian frontier. Near Amvrosiyvka, Reuters journalists saw a second convoy carrying 14 howitzers, also heading toward the Russian border. Rebel commander Eduard Basurin said there were no plans for any further military advances. "That's it. We are going no further," he said. He said the rebels still aimed to gain control of the entire territory of east Ukraine's two rebellious provinces, including the government-held port of Mariupol, but would seek this through "negotiations with the Ukrainian side". Meanwhile, European security organization (OSCE) is concerned that Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donbass are not pulling out their heavy armaments, Russia’s permanent representative to the OSCE, Andrey Kelin, told Rossiya’24 news channel: "Ukrainian military are keeping silent for the time being, they are not pulling heavy armaments out and are speaking of the need for a pause of some kind," he said. "This really causes serious concern on the part of the OSCE, This pause can last indefinitely and the fact won’t help in terms of compliance with the first paragraph of the Minsk accords," he said. |

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Feb 26 2015, 09:03 AM) Well the rumour is that all light infantry batt. Will be converted to mechanized(more towards American SBCT style) Well, we had around 450 of them, so a lot of them to go around it seems. Longevity comes from being very easy to maintain & easy to get spare parts (RPz Condor uses civilian lorry engine and drive train), IMHO prolly the best military purchase Malaysian gov ever did. currently every battalion seem to have condors,a testament to the radpanzer This post has been edited by MilitaryMadness: Feb 26 2015, 09:15 AM |

Russia, Cyprus ink deal to allow Russian Navy ships access to Cyprus ports
![]() Cyprus has signed an agreement with Moscow to give Russian navy ships access to Cypriot ports. Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed the deal after talks with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. The deal with Cyprus comes as tensions with the West over the Ukrainian conflict continue. President Putin said that other countries should not be concerned and that the port's main use would be for counter terrorism and anti piracy. Tensions remain high between Russia and other European countries but the Russian leader was not concerned that the deal could be misconstrued. "Our friendly ties aren't aimed against anyone," President Putin said. "I don't think it should cause worries anywhere." Russia has heavily invested in Cyprus and this deal formalises previously ad hoc use of Cypriot ports. President Anastasiades also revealed that the two countries were discussing the possibility of Russia using an air base on Cyprus for humanitarian relief missions. |

So funny when people say the Russians flattened Grozny city during the Chechen wars, they probably still think Grozny today is still a pile of smoldering ruins and looks like this: ![]() When actually it looks like this today: ![]() Modern downtown Grozny, with the Ahmad Kadyrov mosque in its center |

QUOTE(KYPMbangi @ Mar 2 2015, 08:02 AM) eh.. ye ke? Probably bcoz mostly people are more familiar with M16 and its fixed carry handle.I read again cuz generally dun bother the comment section, lol why so many dunno the removable feature on m4 M4 carbine, the rails can be seen beneath the carry handle and it's dual screw knob ![]() P.S. bullshit to whoever put carry handle on M4, you cannot even carry it with the handle. The slot is so small, you can only fit fingers in there. |

QUOTE(waja2000 @ Mar 2 2015, 09:18 AM) Well, they were designed in the 1970s, of course la cannot adapt to modern threats. Even western ships of the era, for example US Spruance-class destroyers and Perry-class frigates are no longer in operation. Russia still uses these because they have not that much in replacements. |

QUOTE(MrUbikeledek @ Mar 2 2015, 09:27 AM) I think the early version of M4 also have fixed carry handle. I noticed that the M4 used before the SMEO one require an adapter to attach optics. AFAIK all M4 carbines have detachable carry handles. You're probably referring to CAR-15 carbines, which are essentially shortened M-16s.![]() |

QUOTE(thpace @ Mar 2 2015, 01:00 PM) Not really, russian vessel except for its nuclear powered are designed to operate well within its waters and slightly beyond. Any further would require a replenishing tankers. Tug are bring along just in case anyone breakdown. Russia dont favour docking at unknown port and will drag their ship back to homeport if have to even it a emergency. There a few report of its as well. If it helps, Russia never intended for it's Navy to be an full blue-water one. Thats why the Soviets and now Russia have a ton of smaller Frigates and coastal patrol crafts rather than a few ocean-going ships. If our vessel were to travel beyond our waters, they would also need to have a tanker nearby to refuel. |

QUOTE(thpace @ Mar 2 2015, 01:15 PM) Their warship is to defend their waters. Their submarine force is the main attacking.. no wonder they have more sub than their own surface vessels. If one sees a map of Russia, you can see it's very much a landlocked country. The only open ocean ports are surrounded by potentially hostile countries. Probably Soviet/Russian military planners realized a long time ago it's pretty useless to have a large conventional Navy if the enemy can potentially bottleneck you in harbor with not a lot of effort or strand you in open waters with no access to home ports. Hence the alternative focus of subsurface warfare, just like Germany in WW2. |
