Hi,

I am thinking to have 1 husky. But i need advices from you all specialists

1. how much it will cost monthly to feed them?
2. Will they poo or peep anywhere? I have heard that female will be more discipline.
3. What are considerations needed before i decided to have 1?
4. Are they a good watchdog?
5. Is there any problem if he/she is the only dog in the house? i heard they like to gang around.

Many Thanks

Here is my advice to you.

1. Approximately RM100 per month if you are only talking about dog food. It also depends on how many times and how much you feed them. They are very clean and does not need grooming as they shed their fur twice a year. You probably need a bottle of shampoo too which will last you months if you only shower them once a week.

2. Every dog will poo and pee everywhere unless you train them to do it on a specific spot. Male dogs mark a lot more than female, like peeing on pillars, fire hydrant, gates, etc because they can lift their legs and shoot. Female dogs do it less because they dont lift and shoot. But dont forget, female dogs has their 'period', hence you probably get messy with the blood unless you buy it pampers but considering Husky is a hyperactive dog, they might just rip it off. Alternatively, you can spay her.

3. Are you an active person? Huskies are big dogs and need some space in the house, and time with the owner to exercise. Big dogs = big bones = more exercise. Make sure you bring your dog for walk at least 2 - 3 times per week.

4. No, they are the lousiest watch dog - no kidding. Despite the wolf alike look, make them look intimidating but they are not good watchdogs as they are playful creatures even with strangers.

5. Yes, it will be a problem because they get bored easily when alone and become destructive. All living creatures like to have companions, even you and I.

No need, else why would there be so many husky owners? Dogs born locally has been 'localized' and can adapt to our climate.
