yes, compare to tour... diy in tokyo consist a lot of walking
walk all day and nite... no joke

but since u r going to hokkaido...
u situation is much better now.... rent a car
this is super relaxing
... except for the driver brows.gif

and the major different between diy vs tour
- tour oni bring u to standard place, diy u can go to small2 place
- tour eat hotel food, diy can eat all the special thing... king crab anyone? or mos burger??
- tour u hv standard rules and limited amount of time, diy u can stay as long as u want and free to do wat ever u like

this is jus small example... there r many more...

It's not that hard to plan the trp. With websites like http://www.japan-guide.com/ you can easily search for places of attractions and detailed information about the places you would like to visit. And it's fun to plan the trip too.

Your parents won't get exhausted if you're the one doing all the planning. tongue.gif
Hokkaido would be nice if you rent a car to drive around. I plan to do that in the future too.

Driving at Hokkaido during winter time was extremely hard. Diving on icing road was no kidding.
Extremely stressful and exhausted
