I've browse thru many forums including this one and didn't find necessary reviews regarding built-in ovens. Some thread are really old already so am not sure what latest options that I have. Most of the reviews I have found online are from overseas and the models might not be available here.

So, can any baking enthusiasts/housewifes share their experience and opinions with me regarding particular brands and models they have used before? Preferably one that is reliable (even heating) and last many years. I like to bake and will use it for roasting meat as well, looking into using it for baking mayb twice a week and preparing meals.

But I do have a tight budget, mayb I'm willing to pay abt 1500 or stretch to 2500 if it's a good unit. So far I heard Bosch is good, some salesmen recommend Electrolux which I'm a little skeptical. Anyone tried buying a display unit oven b4? I almost did cos it was really cheap less than 1k for a Rinnai and Whirlpool but with slightly defects. Is it advisable to get really old models on display?

Thanks in advanced for any kind advice.

Hi,

I bought a Fagor unit back in 2007. It is still serving me well. I've sent it to service once for close to RM300. After the service, the temperature control was functioning accurately, but now, the front glass panel came off, and that's when I found out that their customer service did not respond back on my request for a service.

The built in oven of mine has an inner dimension of slightly more than 15" width and depth. It can fit well a 15"x15" tray with little room.

The downside with built in oven are the fact that they do not ventilate well, thus, the heat might dissipate slower than stand alone units (need to keep the door ajar a little). Next, you'll need to invest in an oven thermometer to ensure that the temperature is consistent with the dials. Oh, I'm using an analogue dial. I've never used digital before, but it looks better.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for sharing! I came across a few Fagor models which was on display cos the comp went bankrupt. I was told by their personnel at a sale that the company was bought up by a middle-east company and is launching their new products in April.

I've heard many bad reviews about this brand and will consider other brands with the same price.

Btw, nowadays they have ovens that have a gap at the front above the door. On the demo unit, I could feel air coming out. It's more precisely setting using digital but it'll prob b more lasting to use an analogue one with a thermometer.

Thanks again!

Why are you skeptical towards Electrolux? They have really good ovens that are imported from other country. So far mine have no problem at all.

If you can wait till May, go for the Teka warehouse sale. I bought an oven for like 60% off. It's a new unused unit but open box that's all.

Teka warehouse sales in May? is this an annual event? if really so, I will keep this as a reminder in my Calendar and wait for it.

In your humble opinion, is this worth to wait? ie. new unit and huge discount? blush.gif

what to do, every penny saved will surely helps a lot

Yup yearly event. Definitely worth it. Be there on the first day to catch the best choices
Not new in box but new opened box.
However I did managed to buy one new in box induction cook top. That was 50% off cause they discontinue that model. And the new model is not as good as the one I bought.

Hmm cos reviews not exceptionally good despite being higher priced. And one outlet told me they dun want to carry the brand anymore due to many problems, their cust often complain to them. But one sales guy from Harvey Norman kept saying it is good at past year compared to 3-4 yrs ago cos last time Thailand flooded and seems like those units are from there.

Thanks for the heads up! But how to make sure that they are not display units cos it's opened box? Do they offer to test the units on the spot? I'm sure they also give standard warranty but I just don't like having a unit that stops working after a year or three just because someone mishandled it before. I've seen a display unit oven door that cant fully open, can't imagine what kind of abuse it had gone thru.

I've touched a Teka before and it's pretty solid and no doubt a good brand. It's not overly expensive and with 60% off they r good buy indeed.

I wonder will there be any Pre-GST sales b4 April?

Electrolux also had a warehouse sale last year near year end. Not sure if it's a yearly thing tho. Prices were good but I wasn't prepared to buy at that time.

Electrolux sale is bi-annual. I cannot remember seeing any ovens there on sale. Plenty of washer and dryers. I bought a vacuum cleaner.

For Teka yes most of them are display units but not in big store like Harvey Norman where traffic is high. Have you seen a Teka oven on display? Hardly right?
These are display units placed at those kitchen maker and Teka own showroom.
The protective sticker are still there. Its an oven, there's not much to break. You check the doors the knobs that's about it. Mine didn't even have knobs. All touch control and triple glazed. I think I paid 2k for it.
Still haven't install though as my place is not ready yet.

There's one electrical shop also said the same thing of the quality and lots of problems, thus many sending back for warranty claims. I can't verify as you know la, maybe some shops trying to push other brands.

I also quite like Electrolux but Now in a dilemma liao...

I was looking at Bosch. Not much choice as compare to Teka. And not much discount.
I'm also skeptical with their after service.

Mostly washer dryer fridge.

A few hundred cheaper than new unit but no warranty and delivery excluded.

Visitors at the warehouse don't care about the warranty issue, they just think they found a good price.

I did saw ovens at the Electrolux warehouse sale. I din check the price tho cos I wasn't prepared to buy. Those were open box too. Fridges also display units but hoods weren't, many were still sealed in box.

Harvey Norman does carry Teka and if my memory serves me well, I saw their ovens there too. Not all HN carry the same range of products, the small one I went to only carry Bosch and Electrolux. Most of the big ones now have cleared their display units and only those newer models available.

Haha idoblu, my experience is different from yours, I see more bosch everywhere rather than Teka. Perhaps because you went to the Teka warehouse sale so you saw many models. TBM and HN carry Bosch brand. Not sure about their after-sales service but from what I experience from Electrolux (washing machine) the service is good. You call them, they will send a person to come and check the next day.

Germans are well-known for their ovens too. Problem is, nowadays they say on the oven "Made in Germany" or "Made in Italy" but some sources say the parts are not fully made in the origin country. They don't make their own parts instead they source from some China factories. Of course with better brands, they source from better factories not those cheap china made. An auntie who sells the kitchen appliances even told me those company usually made them in China and ship back into their country as their own product. If it's 100% made in Germany, it'll be very expensive. Even Bosch has two prices (some models), made in Germany and those "from Germany".

Kimsim, Thermomix even more expensive wei...Ur wife very pandai, it's all in one and she can just goyang kaki wait for food to be done. smile.gif

Anyone has any experience with Fotile and Lebensstil? Saw a demo on Lebensstil on its higher-end model and the features are pretty good and they include many accessories include a pizza stone and probe.

Oh yeah, display units are sometimes powered-up before but of course not technically baked anything in it.

Usually at a clearance sale (display units) they still offer the standard warranty. But for me I dunno the history of the unit so a bit scared to buy. Like I said I've seen before some selling for very very low price. Physically looks fine from the outside until maybe you open the door, it creaks or can't fully open. Not sure how the display unit can be damaged until door can't open fully. So usually for display units/clearance probably can consider if you want really low price and don't mind a little defect (not taking into consideration the unseen ones).

Anyone who wants to know where I've seen those display units at low low price can PM me. laugh.gif

iambloodysick, btw I understand that you have a shop selling electrical appliances. Care to recommend any good ovens that is reasonably priced? TIA. biggrin.gif
