That is true. I just spoke to a TM reseller and it appear that September is the launching date for internet packages without Hyptv bundle. Estimate price for 50Mbps is RM 219 excluding GST.

But Maxis 20Mbps is tempting though, RM 178 if you are a Maxis OnePlan Subscriber.

Sure or not, TM will have a naked 50/10Mbps package (without any HyppTV) at RM219?
Those that subscribe to 30/50Mbps with HyppTV package now = waste money only if they don't watch HyppTV, if that's the case.

totally agreed with you.. i think majority of the people will only consume the download. Even report from Sandvine for usage trending last year shown minimum req for upload usage..

big diff in median and mean shown minority user used significant high upload. so if we have the standard deviation.. more accurate distribution able to derive.
*
Is that statistic based on people who have 5,10,20 Mbps or more upload bandwidth or mixed with people who only have typical 1+Mbps DSL upload bandwidth?

If people have a glut/big upload bandwidth and didn't use it all then fine. But if they only have 1+Mbps upload, even if they want to use more, they can't. And perhaps they would be using more upload bandwidth if they had it?

hi there. seems like you guys are pretty knowledgeable so i wanna ask some question so heres the situation.

my 1st sis is still using 512kbps streamyx of the old days (more than 10 years) and its becoming extremely depressing to use nowadays. so my question is, is it possible to upgrade to 30mbps for just 169 per month? currently my sis is also have fix line number active (but rarely use it). thanks.

You can use the link above to check if Unifi is available at your sisters address.

In the application form, your sis can specify what she wants to do with her current phone line and streamyx.
To maintain her current phone line when subscribed to Unifi, TM charges RM1 per month.

For 30Mbps package, as a new user you are forced to subscribe to an IPTV package (RM30) so total payable per month will be RM199+GST. At the moment, you can only apply for the 30Mbps package at TM Point outlets.

Else, it may be prudent to apply for VIP10 (RM199) online with the link above and get the first month subscription fees waived. And see what TM has on offer in terms of better packages in the coming months.

By the way, is it correct to assume that after a subscribing to the 30Mbps package for a year, when we cancel the Aneka or Varnam pack, we will only have to pay RM169+GST from then on?

Does the Unifi bill specify RM30 for the Aneka/Varnam pack and RM169 for the 30Mbps?

anyway, i hv long given given up trying to guess how unifi market/sell their products so much variation, so much difference in price and other variables for the same product in diff places.

i paid rm199 for vip10 for 4 long yrs. some people pay rm149, correct or not?!
*
Exactly. I asked TM Point if they got any "offer" for VIP10 or 20 packages and mentioned some folks were paying RM20, 30 or 40 less than whats advertised on TMs official website.

I was told those were under "tele-marketing" and I was only eligble for the officially advertised prices.

Defo should be more than 2Mbps right, thats less than 10%...

I think impossible. Even if TM kena "force" to reduce prices and increase the speed after the Ookla Report.

They have turned it into an opportunity to sell their under-performing IPTV packages to at least maintain how much each subscriber pay them monthly to protect their bottom line and tie you in for another 24 months. Brilliant.

So, indeed TM has reduced their prices and made it faster. 30Mbps=Rm169. 50Mbps=RM219.
But now, everyone is subscribed to at least 1 IPTV package vs previous VIP packages, hardly any. Management looks good.

And they have also taken away the free calls even if it costs them next to nothing. But they give them away to loyal customers as a sign of appreciation. The call costs are even higher than most mobile plans now which also gives them the opportunity to recoup revenue.

I just hope TM has not forgotten about the international bandwidth.
