I think my tank still have the ammonia, only that the yellow green quite difficult to distinguish.

Yesterday measurement:

Ammonia 0.25ppm
Nitrite 0.25ppm
Nitrate 20ppm

The parameter is up and down seem like not fully cycle yet.

Your tank is not cycled. Don't add an army of Cherries because its just throwing money away.
Yamatos are the hardiest shrimp - it have nothing to do with GH/KH or PH from the LFS to your tank as they will adapt. But they are prone to Excel - if you're double dosing for algae control, then better not.
Cycle your tank at least 1 month and ensure you have enough bio-media in your filter. If you've done that, you still might have 1 or 2 odd deaths in the beginning due to new tank syndrome. But the phase will pass once your tank is established/stabilized.

I can understand your situation. I did the same and let it roaming around my tank when I first had it as well smile.gif Still look cute when it had a few babies, and then 2-3 weeks later, things are out of control...
*
Yeah agreed. Would advise to remove it. I too made the same mistake - and now I'm picking out snails whenever I see them.
If you still want to keep snails, then choose those that can't breed in freshwater or those that need a male and female pair to breed. Pond snails can breed by itself as they are both male and female at the same time.
I think Nerite snails can't breed if its only 1. Not sure about Apple or others snail though.

I top up my co2 at gas factories but I've read somewhere that you can also top up at fire extinguisher refilling shops. Do you know a place? How much do they charge? Just curious smile.gif
Off topic, anyone interested in trading plants? Kinda looking for reineckii.
*
Hi terrie,

May I ask where did you top up your CO2? I'm also looking for other places to top up.

Also, what plants are you interested in? I'm not interested in trading, but I usually give away my excess. Just PM me.

I also will have many PRL shrimps soon (A/S grade and also Hinomaru/No Entry) - many babies now (from 2mm to 1cm) as one time 4 were berried. If anyone interested to pick up PRL (CRS) shrimps, just PM me. These are not free though.

Here's the cheapest and fastest place to fill in CO2, in Taman Sungai Besi:
https://www.google.com.my/maps/place/Syarik...1.7000277?hl=en

It's the fire extinguisher company. Just tell them you're here to refill CO2 for fish tank. I paid rm12 last time and it only took less than 5 mins. I asked the uncle why he doesn't need to freeze it and refill it a few times, he said it's because most fish shops don't have the compressor to pump the CO2 into the tank.
*
Thanks for the tip. I googled it and indeed its a gem for CO2 refills.
http://umbrellarec.blogspot.my/2011/09/co2...e-syarikat.html

Unfortunately Sg Besi is quite far for me. Any place around PJ or Damansara would be great. Any idea what company is Syarikat City Corporation?

I went to Mega Mount factory for co2 top up but as you can see in their website, its in Johor Bahru tongue.gif

Thinking of finding some reineckrii mini. Hmm.. Not even sure I can it them in my 2ft tank though biggrin.gif

I've always just throw away plant cuttings before but think its better if I can trade for other plants. FYI, I have rotola, pinnatifida, needle java fern and some wenditi.

Hmm.. Out of curiosity, how much does the 'not free' crs cost? I have 5 in my tank, so was thinking of adding some more.  thumbup.gif

I guess you are in JB. Location is a bit of a problem.

I too usually throw away extras - usually Monte Carlo, mini pelia, mini fissidens, christmas moss, weeping moss, Bucephalandra. They grow so well and need to trim very often, resulting in the excess.

As for PRL, LFS sells them between RM40 to 45. You can also find it on Lelong. I saw local LFS here was selling it for RM60 a few months back. If anybody wants to know the source, just PM - coz I'm not sure if its appropriate to post their selling price online.

So I'll price them at RM20 per tail for the A/S grade - for the SS Hinomaru/No-entry, RM25 per tail. Get ten, free one. Do note that PRL are a different grade from the normal CRS. The normal CRS are cheap - maybe RM10 or 15 per tail. But for PRL, its a different price grade.

The top is A/S grade. The lower one is SS No-Entry. Both are berried mommas.

Another berried momma. I feed them Mulberry leaves. Free Mulberry leaves for any buyer.

Yeah, I live in JB. So the location is a bit of a problem. Its kinda hard for me to get plants or shrimps from KL here. That's why I usually get my livestock and plants from Singapore. Its actually cheaper there than KL.

So you're selling them for about 25 each? Hmm.. Its kinda out of my budget. Nevermind. I'll just get some more from sg.

Hmm.. You give away bucephalandra too? Wow, very generous of you. Mine still slowly growing. Don't really have extras to give away. I'm trying to get them to fill my tank but they're so slow. Haha!

Where did you get your buceps? How much do they sell it in KL? Cause the ones I see in fb and lelong are very expensive..
*
Yes, buce are slow growers and needs a long time to acclimatize. I had them for a long time, so they've grown quite a lot. I bought them from various shops - Aquacult, Shrimpoly, Shrimpspot, lelong, and some other LFS and also from an individual seller. They are not cheap - one 2 inch stalk sells for RM25 to 50. The smaller buce like Iris is only 1 cm stalk also sells for RM30. You can buy a 3 inch block of driftwood with buce on it for RM500 from some LFS. Each time I buy buce, typically I spend a few hundred. But now I've stopped buying as I have all I need. Now I give it away to promote the hobby (since I usually throw away) - but there's very little awareness of the plant in Malaysia. Eventhough it retails for a few hundred in LFS, but very few actually want it even when given for free. Its a niche market. How much are they selling Buce in SG?

I'm surprised PRL are cheaper in SG. How much is it? Are you sure they're PRL? Or are they CRS?

Hey, I did that already tongue.gif
How are they doing? I hope they managed to acclimatize as its been a few weeks.

Ah, I figured as much. I've seen shops particularly in fb pricing buces as such. Actually SG sellers selling them for much cheaper even if you include postage. A typical bucephalandra stalk could cost you around $3 to $9 and clumps the size of your four fingers is around $25 to $35. The thing is, they are mostly imported too. Hmm.. This gets me thinking. Do you think someone would want to buy from me if I resell them? Maybe around RM120 or 150 for clumps?

Example of clump size. Credit to aquahaus sg.

I think they're selling them as crs, but if I compare yours with the ones I bought from SG, they're pretty much the same. Its just "white-ier" than typical crs. As for pricing, you could get them for $2 to $3 from hobbyist and lfs.
*
Yes, the buce prices you mentioned are definitely cheaper in SG. The clump you showed easily goes for at least RM200, but it also depends on the type. Try to find the price of Bucephalandra sp Iris - that would be an apple-to-apple comparison. For MY, a 1cm stalk goes for RM25/30. Maybe its cheaper in SG.

I don't know if there's potential for Buce in MY. I would think so otherwise the specialty shops here won't be selling them. But they are not widely available at normal LFS. They normally go by word of mouth - through FB and whatsapp, and also a blog, forum or something.

Thanks for the price indicators of CRS in SG. But the prices of CRS for SG are the same as in KL.
Also CRS cannot be compared with PRL. The white you mentioned makes all the difference in price. Once it is translucent, it loses its price. That's why the normal CRS are cheap.

Sifus...

How long the soil will be stable?

And how long its take to fully cycle (I used filter from previous tank).

Tried and tried and tried to introduce Yamato, but unfortunatly, all will die on the next day.

Thanks in advance
*
It takes abour 3-4 weeks for the tank to cycle. To reach stability is ongoing, even after 2 years, it continues to stabilize.
If cycling is done correctly, after 3 weeks should have no problems with adding Yamato.

I think you need to provide tank parameters and cycling method. If after 3 weeks, Yamato still die, especially on next day, better do a water test for Ammonia and Nitrite. If checks out well, is there any copper contamination?

Oh...forgot to inform that on the middle of April, I change standard sponge with a bioring.

You still have Nitrite 0.25ppm. It means your tank is not finish cycling. Its not ready to take in any shrimps.
You didn't mention how long you have been cycling, and what soil you're using.

Cycling from scratch will take at least 3 weeks before it is ready to take Yamato shrimps. Better 4 weeks, but even better if longer, but no longer necessary.

But you need to have adequate bio media. What bio-media to use depends on your tank type and soil. For planted tank with rich mineral soil (like ADA Amazonia), and high bio load due to fishes, then use the porous bio-media (rocky like stones that goes into the canister filter). Those sponge type won't cut it for this type of tanks.

But for shrimp tank with shrimp soil, and low bio load, you can use the sponge filter media. But I would still prefer to use the porous media (stone type).

Since you mentioned you changed to bio-ring, do ensure they are enough and fit it to maximum capacity in your filter. You can never have too much bio-media and not enough will cause many issues in the long term (including those pesky algae that loves unstable tank).

For bio-media, its also better to get the small grain type instead of the large size bio ring so can you pack more into the limited space of your filter. More is better thumbsup.gif

Hi, sorry I lost track. But a fellow LYN member was asking for mini fissidens, but I lost track who was it. I was saving it since last week, and now I don't know who was asking for it lol....

Anyway I have Mini Fissidens available now. Must be collected this weekend please. Otherwise it goes to the bin. Location is PJ. Anytime. No shipping.

Please PM or whatsapp. Thanks.

Wow, so nice. I put Nerite snail into my tank. 2 times. Both times also died sad.gif
