anyone tried Eureka for holistic cats?
i've tried purina pro plan, friskies and whiskas so far.
i'm not too happy with proplan and friskies at the moment. my 5 mths old kitten seems to have diarrhea from proplan.

i've bought a pack to try but cant seem to find any details or reviews on eureka online
*
Did your cat have diarrhea with friskies or whiskas? I don't have experience with Eureka. What is the ingredients? If your kitten have good bowel movement with whiskas or friskies, go back feeding with it & slowly change to new food. Example; 1st day 90% whiskas/friskies + 10% & slowly reduced the old food and increase the new food ratio over the next 7 days.

If your kitten also have diarrhea with friskies & whiskas, you might want hold food for 24 hours. 5 months old is old enough for this. Make sure your kitten always have access to clean drinking water. Then give your cat boiled chicken. You may need to feed your kitten with boiled chicken a couple of times until diarrhea subside. Then slowly feed your cat Eureka.

Coincidently I did read an article this afternoon about Probiotics. It can be given to cats with diarrhea to introduce helpful bacteria into the digestive tract. I can see why you want to try Eureka.

Hi guys. First timer here.

So my friend has a cat that recently gives birth, however one of the kittens got stuck in the stomach and had to be surgically removed by a vet. However, afterward, the mother wouldn't take care of that one kitten, not even licking it.

It has been two days now. My friend tried to feed the little one using syringe but she just won't/can't drink it up. Any suggestions or tips?

This article may helps: http://messybeast.com/handrear.htm

Mother cat's milk always the best. When the mother cat breast feeding her other kittens, you can try slowly put the kitten near the mother cat so that it can breast feed too. Usually when breast feeding, the mother cat won't mind. Don't leave the kitten unattended because you may need to take the kitten away when the mother cat get angry.

QUOTE(Emanyshie @ Feb 24 2015, 09:42 AM)
hi guys, so here is my story...
i have adopted two kitties..one is quite like tabby + white coloured male and the other one is calico female. both are domestics. i hv had them since July last year. I cudnt get their age right...when i got them both, the previous owner who took care of them said they are almost 5 mths. but i can see the calico female is quite petite..somewhat over 3-4mths...then the male tabby is quite big for his age. i did spayed the male tabby after a month or so...so he is getting quite chubby, meanwhile the calico female is still in 'prestine' condition (not yet spay) and petite even she's getting older. so recently, both of them got some fleas on their body which i noticed last friday, it was horrible to see those bloody bugs running around their furs. i was quite shocked because i did left them in their cage when im away from home since 28th January then came back around 8th February and let my family fend them of course..but none of them realised that my fur babies got them fleas. even my dad's domestic long hair black cat got it, nobody aware of that. i brought them for ivomex shot except the DLH black cat, because i only have budgets for my two cats. before that, i did shampoo-ed them with flea & tick shampoo but not that effective. so the next day, i went to the petshop to buy those flea collars and some advantage spot on for fleas. i dunno if those things are enough to battle the fleas..im quite panicked a bit but calmed down eventually when i try to look for those bloody bugs in their furs...i didnt saw them running around but quite a few did fell on the bed and some on the blanket. i hope they are gone for good...

so did anyone have this kind of situation with the cats?? pls share your experiences and opinions...thank you
*
Most of us will have some experiences on this issue. smile.gif Yeah, the anti-tick & flea shampoo is not really affective. The spray type also not really affective but I only tested a couple of products. I use Detick tick & flea drops. One small bottle for two cats. Just need to apply on the back of their neck, between the shoulder blade. Kills tick & flea in 24 hours & it protected my cats for months. I think it already 6 - 7 months or more now since I last apply it to my cats.

i gave mine a whole thigh + drumstick... but she seems still hungry haha
but i only gave her once though

i suspect that mine was having diarrhea because she has been licking the clumping litter from her paws. the problem seems to go away after changing litter.
i'm no expert, i'm just suspecting that to be the case.

a whole thigh + drumstick not enough?  blink.gif
gonna try it tomorrow. hope my cat can subside diarrhea too  rolleyes.gif

Depending on how many cats I'm feeding I usually give more. biggrin.gif You may need to feeds with boiled chicken for several times/days to give digestive tract a chance to rest and recover. Then slowly resume the regular food. If your cat have diarrhea again after changing back to old food, you may want to change the food. Boiled chicken is only for short term solution. Long term solution you need more balanced food. Maybe cat food that contain Probiotics. I read Probiotics made for humans are also often more beneficial, because they contain more than one strain of bacteria. You can mixed it with your cat food.

I also sometime have problem with kittens having diarrhea. I might try Probiotics myself.

Is it ok for little kittens as young as a month old to consume some rice with fish meat?? My friend quite stressed abt it...because the young follows the big cats eating habit. What gives??
*
It is alright. I also mixed little amount of rice with wet food for my kittens. When they was 4 weeks old, I introduced wet food to them & they like it. A couple days later I noticed soft stool. Then I started to mixed little amount of rice & this helps. I no longer found soft stool. Rice give your cat energy & add fiber to their diet. Rice can be helpful to cat's digestion.

Yeap they do bury their poop. Still stinks.

And sometimes when they fart, ugh! Smore fart whilst
relaxing with me on bed. LOL!

Farting usually indicate upset tummy. Did their poop look soft?

Boiled chicken is the best home remedy for upset tummy & diarrhea. Feed your cat boiled chicken a couple of times & then slowly resume feeding with the current cat food.

QUOTE(splatzkill @ Feb 25 2015, 01:57 PM)
hah i've used cat-it before as well and can confirm the products effectiveness when it comes to covering the smell
it is also the most expensive compared to most cat litter brands. and because its non clumping, you'll need to empty the box and clean it at least once a week.

i am currently trying tidycats at the moment which seems alright (not as effective as cat-it crystal litter) but almost half the price. more budget friendly and affordable to change the sands every 3-5 days.
good thing my 2 kittens are not fussy tho. i've changed like 4 type/brand of litter already
*
I also have use crystal litter & it's the best I've ever tried. They're little expensive, YMMV depends on which/what brands available at your local pet shop. I don't remember the brand but it was RM30 & it's only small bag. The problem with non-clumping litter it depends on good air circulation & how many cat using the litter. My house is an old house, some parts of the house didn't get good air circulation. Because of this the crystal litter only lasted for a week. It supposed to lasted for 3 - 4 weeks with only one cat using it. So it's not economical to me. But it's still the best in controlling odour.

I'm using Purina Tidy Cat too. I actually use three types of litter at the moment; regular (Clean N Easy brand) clumping sand litter, Purina Tidy Cat & pine wood (Paw Mark brand) cat litter. The place where it don't get good air circulation, I use the clumping sand litter. The Purina Tidy Cat can lasted up to 3 - 4 weeks but this probably because I topup with fresh Tidy Cat every week.

I also tried recycled paper litter. I like it but my local pet shop don't carry them.

im new to this world.it is not almost a year i can finally hold a cat but even before i can feed them only putting the food on the floor.well i got 2 cats from my uncle..the first cat that my family get ,gave birth to 2 kiitens and the other was adopted by us last august.the problem is one of the kittens was diagnosed to have sporo fungal.the kitten name was Lulu

FEBRUARY:I went to government veterinar to treat her ears.the wound on her ear keep getting smaller .

SUNDAY MARCH 1:  LULU was seem to be inactive and keep hiding around the corner and vomitting,I brought her to government vet because i cant afford because i am fresh graduates who still looking for a job..but officer said that LULU got feline but they didnt know which one .i was confused as they didnt state which feline virus LULU was diagnosed.but they saw the bruise hidden under her fur on her upper back and said let delay the bruise for later treatment.so as they prescribe antibiotic and antibody but LULU seems to be still weak and have some bad odour on her wound.one week passed the fur on bump kept fall off and the wound seems to be worsen so i thought it is one after effect of the antibiotics.

8 march yesterday:in the afternoon i saw LULU back got worsen so i quickly when to nearest private vet, the doctor diagnosed LULU and said she got sporo ,she asked me to let LULU with her (forever).my mother seems to agree with her as my parents still have 4 children who still in school, college and university, and they cant afford the sporo treatment no more.

i cried and begged my mom to let me take care of LULU as i still available right now.from what i have read the treatment may cost a lot.my mom only gave me two weeks to see how LULU was progressing and it has cost rm175 already and my mom said she can only afford it for two weeks.im desperate right now.

the vet said it is going to cost more after this and my mother said  she dont any money to spend on this treatment anymore.should i gave up?this is the first time i ever love a cat and this happen.and i also staying with my grandparents.i afraid it will affect other cat and my family member

i read some of cats who survived sporo but it is going to cost money.Help
*
If you can't afford & the vet offer to adopt/take care the cat, then you should agree. Look on the bright side, the cat can get proper treatment now & the chance to recover is much better.

QUOTE(adioz88 @ Mar 16 2015, 10:15 AM)
Hello.

I want to ask about my cats health problem.

She was not well about a week ago. I check her at nearest pet shop and it hit 39.9 celcius. So the vet staff
give vitamin+antibiotik ( liquid ) + fever ( pills) . Howeber after 3-4 days my cat refuse to eat and drink at all and even i assit her to eat she will vomit together with kibbles. Not much at all when eat, just 10 pieces. All that only she can eat for single day.Im really worried.Last 2 day she start to poo with blood. And i check after she just poo, it come together with worm.Anyone can help me? I stay at Kepala Batas Penang.
*
I think worm is what cause the blood in the stool. Parasitic worms such as hookworm or roundworms suck the blood from the intestinal wall, resulting in blood in the stool. Your cat probably need de-worming.

By pet shop, do you mean they do have animal clinic there? The vet is actually a vet?

When it involve lost of appetite, you really need to consult vet immediately. If your cat vomiting after eating, you should change to different cat food. You also can try wet food. When my cats got sick I fed them with wet food or boiled chicken. Wet food also good in case the sick cat don't drink enough.

My 5 - 6 months kittens also got sick lately, cat flu. One of them really bad, watery eyes & mouth. The vet said they all don't have fever which is good. The prescribed pills worked quickly too, after 24 to 48 hours, no more watery eyes & mouth. Only one lost appetite for a day but start eating again the next day. With the heat season lately, I need to turn on the A/C to maintain room temperature between 30 to 32 Celsius, especially between 11 to 5 p.m.. I'm just afraid the heat might slow down their recovery or worsen their condition. 34C during heat season feels like 40C.

I hope your cat get well soon. smile.gif

I feed all my cats with non-grain-free cat food. None of my cats become fat or chubby. There are a couple of cats that look slightly chubby but it's because they have bigger body than the other cats. For example, see picture below. Both kittens are same age. Imagine what the bigger kitten look like now. It actually look like little chubby but not fat or overweight.

Attached Image

Neutered/spayed cat can get fat & overweight but it doesn't mean they necessarily will get fat & overweight. Like spunkberry said, it's all about lifestyle & how much you feed your cat. BTW, I feed my cat twice a day & I make sure I didn't over feed them. I also don't like give them treats between meals.

I just want to say, regardless what brand or what kind of food you feed your cat, fat & overweight cat is bad, as much as malnutrition is bad to cat.

QUOTE(jessteong @ Mar 18 2015, 03:02 PM)
Smarthearts no good la, maybe look fit cos not as nutritious as the good brands.
*
I don't agree with the bold part. Malnutrition cat won't look fit. They would look sick. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Asak8 @ Mar 19 2015, 10:27 AM)
Yup. I've tried both in my smartsift.
Both failed to do the job.
Cause the basis of smartsift is the clumping mechanism of the sand.

I placed floormat in front of the smartsift, 3 of them side by side to cater the footprint.  biggrin.gif

Oh, does your cat has any problem using the smartsift with the door closed?
All my 3 cats refuse to use it when the door is closed.  sweat.gif
*
Yes, smartsift only suitable for clumping style litter. Even non-clumping sand litter also not suitable because it's enclosed space & this will make the non-clumping litter expired way earlier than it should be.

Some of my cats also don't want to use it when the door closed but I probably didn't left the door closed long enough for these cats to learn. The ones that have no problem using it even the door closed because I leave the door closed. BTW, I have two smartsift. That's why there's one have door closed & the other one opened. Anyway, I opened the door on both smartsift anyway because the place where I put the smartsift allow the cat to jump to the smartsift (from high place like cabinet). The door parts kinda flimsy, I don't want it to break, so I opened the doors. It also good idea to keep the door open too because my naughty cat like to pull & bite & tear the black filter thing on top of the smartsift. tongue.gif The clumping litter I use very good in controlling odour anyway.

I'm wondering am I feeding my cat too much? I feed him twice a day with this cup. Used to be full cup, now I reduce to maybe 4/5 of the cup. At night I'll feed him 2 tea spoon of tuna as well.

*
It's easy. If your cat is not overweight, then your cat is not overfeed. Cat like to eat a little at a time but frequently. Basically, they eat, they play, they poop, they eat, they sleep, they eat, they play, they eat..... biggrin.gif

Wet food is different story of course. Cats will clean out the plate in just one sitting. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(splatzkill @ Mar 19 2015, 11:47 AM)
haha my cat apa pun makan... my little one just over 3 months would even eat moths if i didnt stop her.

speaking of which, i'm not sure if anyone using tidycats is having this problem, but mykittens drinks alot of water and pees even more.
within 2-3 days, the tidycats litter would become wet and soggy and they would pester me to change the litter

grrrr
*
It's hot season anyway. Cats can be more sensitive than us human. They will drink more. Everyday I usually need to refill one drinking bowl twice a day but currently I need to refill two bowls twice a day (evening & early morning).

2 - 3 days? That's quick. Too quick. Worst case scenario should be a week. How many cats share the litter box? Maybe adding another litter box, you know, splitting the load.

QUOTE(spunkberry @ Mar 24 2015, 10:48 PM)
Is there a particular reason why you like the fish meat for your cat? I've never preferred fish mainly due to the mercury content. I do give them tuna and salmon treats, but they're treats, not part of their regular meals.
*
(Boiled) Fish mixed with rice is regular meal for cats in Malaysia. This what folks at kampung feed their cats since I can remember. I don't remember any of the cats got sick or malnutrition. Then again these are outdoor cats that also hunt & eat small rodents like mouse. So malnutrition is not an issue.

Anyway, basically it's like a custom or tradition for us to feed fish to our cats. Nowadays, many people like to feed their cat with commercial pet food but then again many of cat food in Malaysia contain fish.

My oldest cats grow up with tuna & sardine (canned pet food) mixed with kibbles & they turn out great. Nowadays, I try my best to reduced the amount of tuna I feed to my cats. However I live in small town, not many choice of wet food that doesn't contain fish. Actually no choice at all.

I understand the lack of choice, in fact, I feel frustrated for you guys.

Maybe I just researched wayyyyyyy too much into what food to feed my cats lol that I now believe that fish on a regular basis for cats is not complete nutrition for them.
*
I did read about the fish & mercury issue. Since then I did reduced the amount of tuna when feeding my cats. I'm still feeding my cats with pet food that contains sardine.

I'm currently dealing with cat flu, two weeks now, but since a couple days ago, few of my other cats got eye infection with one cat kinda serious. Basically 7 cats got cat flu, currently slowly recovering & 4 cats got eye infection on the right eyes.

For the 7 cats that got cat flu, the fever+antibiotic tablets already run out but they're recovering now albeit slowly. The only symptoms left are sneezing & a couple of them watery eyes little bit. Two still got inflamed eyes because their eyes inflamed a bit later than the other cats. I have eye drops medicine to take care of this. I quarantine them in two rooms; 3 kittens including their mother in one room (the mother got eye infection on the right eyes probably from her kittens. The eyes still look ok & remain ok since I detected it but she seems feels uncomfortable with the right eye with the right eye lid not fully opened. Hopefully the eye drops medicine work fast.) & another 4 kittens (stray cats, fresh & hungry too because they seems don't know where to go) in the living room in two 3-storey cages. The good news is they didn't loose appetite & they're recovering well, just need to monitor the two cats that have inflamed eyes but even the inflamed parts already slowly shrink.

For the 4 cats that got eye infection on the right eyes, all of them have identical symptom. The right eye lid is closed & if opened, not fully. Out of the 4, the eyes on the 3 cats remains ok, not clouding or inflamed. The vet told me to give eye drops anyway. One quite serious, most of the time the right eye lid remain closed. The vet told me if I waited any longer the eye can go blind. It happened pretty quick. I detected it on the Friday evening & I only able to bring it to the clinic on Monday because the clinic closed on the weekends. The right eyes already clouding on Monday. I think my effort to clean dry out pus on the right eye lid over the weekend with clean water make it worse. The right eye lid was remain closed which probably bad idea because the water I use to clean the eye lid got in & trapped in there. I'm thinking wet = bacteria. I don't know how she got the infection because I already quarantined her in a cage when my other cats started getting cat flu. I already moved her to the front bed room, quarantine her in there alone. She can roam freely in there. The other two in living room (the other one, the mother cat I mentioned earlier in the front room with her kittens). Currently no to little discharge on the right eye anymore & the eye lid can be open a little bit. It's now third day I apply eye drops to the eyes of these cats. Hopefully they get better quick.

Basically these rooms are cleared for sick cats only because easier for us to monitor them:-
  1. the living room (two 3-storey cages for the 4 kittens that have cat flu, one 3-storey cage for a kitten with eye infection - actually only caged her at night to limit her movement, and one male cat roam freely - this one like to sleep all the time which is why I'm not worried of him roaming freely)
  2. the front bedroom (only one cat with serious right eye infection I mentioned earlier)
  3. the front room (the mother cat with right eye infection & her 3 kittens with cat flu)

There are 4 cats that doesn't get any infection that I already moved & quarantined in the middle bed room. For good measure I quarantined them in three 3-storeys cages. Unfortunately I heard one of the cats sneezing a couple of times. Hopefully not cat flu. No symptom yet.

The ones that didn't get cat flu, including the ones that got eye infection already got cat flu before. However, except one, all of them didn't get full blown cat flu, just sneezing & watery eyes because I also quarantined them last time.

Sorry, I'm really worried & feels the need to talk to somebody. That's why I wrote this in the forum. sad.gif

Do you mean the back of the cat ear? I ask because ear mites occur in the ears. http://www.catsofaustralia.com/ear-mites-cats.htm

If the back of the cat ear, probably just need to apply tick & flea medicine. My favourite is drops type one, very affective.

See what drop you use... My cat also got earmites already. Applied the flea drop liao but still got. Afraid that the drop didn't absorb into the skin. Money wasted liao

You need both; tick & flea drop & ear drop. Ear drop sometime available at pet store but if it already in serious condition like inflammation and/or bleeding in the ears, better see vet.
