Well, do you want your Special Attacker to have a nature that dislikes/lowers Special Attack? biggrin.gif

Yep, they surely affect! For each nature, except Docile, Hardy, Quircky and Serious, they will add 10% boost for 1 stat and decrease 10% for 1 stat.

For example, I have a Palkia with Modest nature with max lv 100. Assume that it's S.ATK IV is 31 (max) and the EV is 255 (max). To compare, I also have another Palkia with Careful nature, with the same IV and EV as the previous Pakia.

As we all know, Modest will add 10% boost for S.ATK value and decrease 10% for ATK value whilst Careful nature will add 10% boost for S.DEF and decrease 10% for S.ATK value.

In the end, Palkia A will have 438 for it's S.ATK while Palkia B will only have 399 for it's S.ATK (see the big differences?). In same case, the S.DEF for Palkia A will be less than Palkia B as the Careful nature that Palkia B owns.

However, the chances for getting a 31 IV for one stat for one pokemon is very rare. It'll certainly become rarer if you wish for max IV for each stat of a pokemon.

nature growth really depends on your game style
if you are a defensive type then take those on high def and special def growth
and vice versa if you are a attacking type

nice thing about this game that they categorize attack types now
gyarados isnt as useless as it use to be
*
In contrary, Gyarados still sucks for it's low SPD, despite it's high ATK value. Unless you use Trick Room, Gyarados will be KO'ed with any Grass/Lighting type Pokemon just as easy as snap.

Btw, I noticed that you mentioned "nice thing about this game that they categorize attack types now". Nice thing eh? I can't seem to know why? Differences between Physical move and S.moves should be quite obvious.

Gyarados is good in D/P. Yes, it gets LOLPWNED by Electric types, but it does learn EQ and Dragon Dance. EQ with its high attack kills most Electric types since most of them don't have decent defense, and DDance helps its speed. Plus, with the Attack/Special split, it now gets a Water move which draws off its great Attack.

By the way, 80 SPD is rather decent. It still outruns many Pokemon. It's defense also does NOT suck. While it's physical defense may lack, Intimidate helps with this, and 100 SP Def is great.

Trick Room is better for Pokemon like Bronzong and Spiritomb which are almost certain to move last due to its very sorry speed. (33 and 35 respectively).

EDIT: Gyarados does NOT learn Trick Room.

And btw, Gyarados takes normal damage from Grass moves due to it being part-Flying. So it won't die from Grass moves.

well about gyarados, its true due to its low spd a single jolt of lightning will OHKO it
but the good part on the revise movelist that it gets physical ice and water moves which benefits from its high ATK

about attack catagory
lets take an example a pokemon with high ATK and SATK
with 2 different fighting moves one with physical and the other with special
and going up against a blissey having high SDEF and low DEF

u could see a difference in damage being deal if u use a fighting special move having low damage compared to a fighting physical move
well in any case i havent really tested this out and see the difference tongue.gif
but knowing which stat is lower on your opponent can be an advantage
well the categorization just add abit of extra flavor to battling imo

Here's a nice example with Lucario.

Lucario uses Close Combat against Blissey. Blissey gets OHKO'd (weak def, and this is a physical fighting attack)

Lucario uses Aura Sphere against Blissey. Blissey takes 1/2-1/3 damage (decent sp def, and this is a special fighting attack)

gyarados didn't sucks, it have att that can kill almost all Electric in one hit. but for the sake of it, do you really will let your gyarados stay at the field when you see electric type at the field? it is common sense to change pokemon if you know that you will die in one hit you would want to change into something that resist electric att, like a ground type...
