For Pokemon its rather easy....Fakes are ALWAYS grey colour. Oris the carts are tied to their specific version colours. (Ruby/FR = Red, Sapphire = Blue, Emerald/LG = Green)

ya, original cart don't need to recharge battery, you can use it for a very long time.

I've tried it before when they launched it at the Tokyo Convention Centre here, pretty neat too (I got the Pearl sticker kekeke)
