Wow, what a load of assumption you're throwing there. Sorry, but
WHO are you again to throw those assumptions on what people do for a living or where they are at their stage of their lifes? That's quite insulting.
And who said people are ignorant about misleading marketing from other sectors? Seems to me like you're being ignorant about thinking people are ignorant about other issues. But lete's not go off-topic, this is about the 970 not about other things.
Oh and yes, I SLI'd a 970 to play at 1440p and even then, I'm getting stutters. So I have the right to complain. For those who play on 1080p or lower, they still have the right to complain, whether or not their 970 are stuttering. Who's to say that games in the near future wouldn't breach 3.5GB of VRAM at 1080p? You?

There are already games pushing more than 3.5GB RAM on FullHD resolution, Shadow of Mordor and FarCry 4 are a couple of example. From my own test Wolfenstein: The New Order also maxes out the RAM at highest setting and makes it stutter too at FullHD resolution.
Adding salt to the wound, the Jen-Hsun so called 'apologetic' letter really pissed me off. The word 'new memory architecture' and 'This is a good design' really makes me mad. They only mentioned about the RAM issue, but what about the L2 cache and ROPs? I'm not gonna lie, GTX 970 is a good fast card, but I buy it because of it's spec, I want full 2MB L2 cache, full 64 ROPs and 4GB 256-bit RAM as promised. Because of this blatant lie I sold it and would rather use my old trusty GTX 560 SLi as I waited for new R9 300 series to comes up hopefully in few weeks. nvidia current lineup and price doesn't really attract me at all, GTX 960 is more expensive than R9 280 series card which is faster and have more RAM, GTX 970 is more expensive than even R9 290X which have full 4GB of RAM and run much better with eye candy enabled.
I hate when fanboys argue saying the performance didn't change after this findings, of course they don't but they should be MUCH BETTER in the first place!
