New leaked suggested the FIJI will be 300W TDP.  If its true, it's so obvious it will be 28nm.  The TDP is just  shocking.gif

Any idea how much it will sell for? I've been looking for an upgrade for my 7850 and as an AMD fanboy, its natural that I'll be looking for and AMD card. But right now nothing beats the GTX970 for my budget and I wonder if it is worth the wait.

Whild the TDP is not really an issue for me, I have only 2 slots to fit in the card since I got a PCIe sound card. And right now most 290x will occupy more than 2 slots.

Judging from the allegedly leaked 300 series benchmarks, it seems that the TDP is quite low and by right a 2 slot cooler should be enough.

Then again, it will only ship out in Q2, I don't know if I can wait that long and I don't know it will be justified since I have no plans to go beyond 1080p 60Hz gaming.

Any thoughts?
*
i think the price will be a slightly lower than the price of gtx 980/970.. thats what amd always did with its previous cards. i suggest you wait a little bit more for the new amd cards.. trust me it is worth it. Or if you still wanna upgrade now, and TDP is not your prob, look for r9 290x lightning.. its totally beat gtx970 and the price right now really nice around rm1.2k++.. eh you using matx board? hmm.gif standard atx board shoud be no prob to fit 3-slotted card with a sound card..

I am using this mobo:

http://www.gigabyte.my/products/product-pa...spx?pid=4491#ov

I don't remember it quite clearly but I remember that the sound card is so close to the GPU and don't think anything thicker than 2 slot cooler can fit.

But I will check it once I get home.
*
your mobo have 4 pcie slot.. the top one will be used for 3 slotted gpu and the last one can be use for your sound card. its going to be a bit tight but it should fit. dont worry about the temp, sound card is not big and also generate small heat so it will not suffocate the gpu.

and also you can try put in you sound card in the last two pci slot of your mobo.. someone told me before that pcie x2/x1 card such as network or sound card can be use with old pci slot.. not sure its true or not.. haven't tried myself.

So you guys are saying that my PCIe sound card can be fitted into the PCIe slot meant for GPU? I never tried that..
*
yeah your pcie sound card can be fitted into the 'long' pcie slot no problem.. pcie x1/x2/x4 card can be fit into the pcie x16 slot for sure.

edit: but of course this will sacrifice your option to put 2nd gpu into the rig

Thanks for the info, I have read essentially all the reviews around regard of the 290X. just concern of the PSU requirement of the official website which almost all state 750W as minimum. If no need to change my PSU, RM 1299 for 290X lightning will be very tempting.

btw, I'm considering also the Sapphire 290X 8GB at price 1699. do you think the price premium worth?
*
the performance increase of 8GB is negligible.. indeed got some performance increase in 4k reso but very minimal.. just go with ligthning 4GB.

Frankly tell you, my budget max RM2300, final upgrade before GST, plan to use it for some time (at least three years).

Of coz, if possible cheaper the solution is better i can save back my budget. so if I follow this direction, GTX 970 or 290X will be more sensible. As personally I'm a mild AMD fanboy, so emotionally i more toward 290X. But I have read some review state that  GTX 970 shows better performance. For GTX 980, there are a demon inside my heart always telling me to get the best card around (which is GTX 980 for now)
*
buy lightning and a good 256gb ssd.. you get both powerfull gpu and high speed pc.. with some money left, go get good dinner.. nuff said! tongue.gif

Everything is destined to be obsolete~ even buying 380X, it will be obsolete in 2 years time. of coz it depend on ones sense of 'outdate-ness', 290X maybe replace with newer and more capable model, but it doesn't mean it will simply 'outdated' by my mean, I guess it still perform as high end card for at least 2 years . just like HD 7970, it still lives and staying relatively relevant till today by the name of R9 280X, i guess still no one will say 280X are obsolete by now right?

Personal view,,,
*
nah.. even the 4+years old HD6950/HD6970 still reliable for today gaming..

hmm.gif not yet dare to plan for 2 r9 380x/390x( u sure is r9 390x? not 380x) as my budget is just rm2K un less i sell off  2 r9 290x...
*
come on bro.. you have such an ample space for your casing.. your case demand for crossfire setup. im pretty sure crossfire r9 290x will beat single r9 390x.. so dual r9 390x is a must! tongue.gif

Bit silly to ask here I guess but how does the sapphire trix 290x compare to the 970? Minus the 4gb bullshit. I'm considering asking etech if they're willing to let me swap my unopened 970 (which I bought from them) for a Sapphire Trix 290x
*
in term of performance, 290x is slightly better.. for me in real world experience, all current top-end cards like 290,290x,780,780ti,970,980 will give you same range of performance and gaming experience.. but its still undeniable bigger GPU memory size will give you better flexibility and versatility in gaming world and less potential of having stuttering.

i not sure, but i favor the FX proc more cause less auto restart and BSOD, i dont know why my 2nd rig keeps auto restart and BSOD, but i suspect its the PSU, but then again 7970 minimum requirement is only 500w lol @.@, owh yeah and as for the FX + 780ti, i can say that the FX doesnt bottleneck cause my 780ti always runs at 100 %
*
yeah TBH i feel the same way too.. my previous fx 8350 running rock stable at 4.8ghz.. i think not more than 3 times of BSOD for almost 2 years of usage.. currently with i7 4790k oc at 4.8ghz, im getting 2-3 times of BSOD every month since 6 months of usage.. usually getting bccode 3b and 50 everytime BSOD happened. prime95 for 1hour no prob so i dont think my oc causing the problem.. maybe i just need a fresh format and test again.. errr off-topic doh.gif biggrin.gif

I have this idea that if your monitor only can go 60Hz, then just cap the fps limit to 60 and conserve energy =P

Not sure how true is this though haha.
*
last month i only play dota 2 and csgo.. with vsync on, my dual gpu usage hovers around 15-30% average during gaming. i noticed some drop in electricity bill end of the month... or maybe it because i less watching tv lol tongue.gif

my experienced, any games i played getting fps lower or greater than 60fps (vsync off), will spoil my mood instantly shakehead.gif. having tearing and rough gameplay everywhere.. so the solution is find the best graphic setting that can provide min 60fps all the time and turn on vsync.
