New leaked suggested the FIJI will be 300W TDP.  If its true, it's so obvious it will be 28nm.  The TDP is just

  watercool ? cause on MetroLL 1080p Very High R9 290X on bench Anandatech got 76 FPS(i wonder is it on Max or Average?)..  i manage get 55+Average... and is on VaporX but Temp under 60C..

Hi all, I'm currently a single HD 7870 user and a previous HD7870 Crossfire user (Asus + sapphire, Asus 7870 died a few months ago). I would like to upgrade my GPU before our grand GST arrive.

Would 290X lightning still be a viable choice? since the competitor green camp been quite aggressive lately.

UPDATE : well wait end of Febuary.. 2015 hmm    maybe out next month.. haha i dunno... R9 380X

AMD’s CEO Lisa Su confirmed in the Q4 earnings call that the company has “very good” graphics products that will begin shipping in Q2 2015. Su revealed that AMD has several product launches planned for “the next couple of quarters” referring to Q2 and Q3 of this year. The bulk of which will land between the April to June time-frame.

Sad fact my current PSU are 620W Cooler Master Silent Pro M2, and it most probably not sufficient to support 290X lightning beast. Planning to buy 850W PSU from either Cooler Master, Seasonic or Silverstone. The most thing i need to consider it 290X + PSU are roughly at GTX 980 price, this make me as the long time ATI/AMD card user feel a bit in dilemma.

My options are as below:

1. 290X Lightning + Cooler Master V1000 = 1299+649=1948
2. 290X Lightning + Seasonic X1050 = 1299+795=2094
3. GTX 980 (ASUS/GIGA/MSI) = 2299
4. GTX 980 (Leadtek) = 1999
5. GTX 970 (ASUS/GIGA/MSI) = 1499
6. Sapphire 290X 8GB + CM V1000 = 1699+649 = 2348

Another enquiry, do you think the 8GB VRAM worth the price premium?

Both MSI and Sapphire website show that the minimum requirement of PSU are 750W

Since R9 300 series is approaching, do you think 290X still be a viable purchase? I would like to make a final upgrade before our Government April fool present :GST

Thanks for the info, I have read essentially all the reviews around regard of the 290X. just concern of the PSU requirement of the official website which almost all state 750W as minimum. If no need to change my PSU, RM 1299 for 290X lightning will be very tempting.

btw, I'm considering also the Sapphire 290X 8GB at price 1699. do you think the price premium worth?

You can't update 290x to run DirectX 12. Already confirmed DirectX 12 cannot run on 290x.

Not fully means not supported. Who wanna buy a card now that does not support dx12 ?

AMD officials also said nothing had changed. “All GCN-based graphics cards from AMD are going to support DirectX12,” an official told PCWorld.

“While we are not yet ready to detail everything related to DirectX12, we can share that we are working closely with all of our hardware partners to help ensure that most modern PC gaming hardware will work well with DirectX12, including; nVidia’s Maxwell, Kepler and Fermi-based GPUs, Intel’s 4th generation (and newer) Core processors and AMD’s Graphics Core Next (GCN) based GPUs. You won’t actually need a new graphics card to run Microsoft’s new DirectX 12 API, which will be baked into Windows 10 later this year. Microsoft has formally confirmed that modern GPUs will indeed work with DX12 afterall.
