I thought 380X is slated around June and still 28nm?
*
Yup, that is correct.

Despite the recent release of GTX 960, R9 285 is still the best performance-to-price card out there.
*
Nah, R9-290 Tri-X is only RM1159 now. For 30% more money u get almost 40%-50% more performance compare to 285.

I asked them regarding the warranty, they just say is 2 years covered by their shop. Probably it isn't from official MSI distri. Maybe something like what feiton used to do for Powercolor cards.
*
I thought Feiton is the official PowerColor distributor in Msia? hmm.gif

Everything is destined to be obsolete~ even buying 380X, it will be obsolete in 2 years time. of coz it depend on ones sense of 'outdate-ness', 290X maybe replace with newer and more capable model, but it doesn't mean it will simply 'outdated' by my mean, I guess it still perform as high end card for at least 2 years . just like HD 7970, it still lives and staying relatively relevant till today by the name of R9 280X, i guess still no one will say 280X are obsolete by now right?

Personal view,,,
*
After 2 years old, only very few games able to use more than 2GB with my 7950 without crapping out the FPS. ph34r.gif

8GB VRAM probably make sense after DX12 imo.

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Jan 29 2015, 06:15 AM)
Of course it correlate. GPU usage is GPU processing image and throw into VRAM. GPU doing processing at 40% usage already can fill up 100% VRAM. What that tells you? That tells you that GPU able to fill up VRAM faster than VRAM dumping out to HDMI.  rclxms.gif  HD7870 is a great card. But hampered by VRAM.

Just like 290X is a great card. It might be hampered by 4GB RAM.
*
No, what happened was that the game already start using much slower system RAM thus creating a bottleneck, that's why the GPU usage is low.

Never mind d. Etech wont exchange my 970 for it so I'm out of luck. Haih. So unlucky. My 970 arrived on the day the news broke.

However, does it matter that I'm playing ONLY at 1080p?
*
For current games, yeah you don't need to worry too much but the card 'lifespan' is gonna be shorter than expected, similar to 660 Ti.

Taken from Robert Hallock a.k.a Thracks' tweet.
TL;DR, when u use split-frame rendering in multi-GPUs configuration, your effective VRAM capacity is actually (VRAM capacity per card * Total card)? I don't really understand, i thought split-frame rendering already available many years ago. hmm.gif

This means 295x2 is actually 8gb card if the game support mantle.
*
And if the game support Split-Frame rendering, so far only CIV: Beyond Earth support it in Mantle, not BF4/DA:I/Thief iirc.
