QUOTE(rearrange @ Jan 6 2015, 11:13 PM) Hi guys, Your budget pretty overkill for your relatively lite usages, LOL.Can suggest me rig to replace my old Dell Inspiron? Recently got lucky draw that win me Samsung 19" monitor, so thinking of building budget rig instead of buying new laptops. Haven't build PC since 2005 so kind of lost with all the new hardwares now (esp. on GPU and mobo) [Budget] RM2500 max, lower is better but don't want to sacrifice performance. [Purpose] Work: Programming (Java & PHP), light Photoshop (use for icons/wireframe/little image manipulation), can handle multitasking very well (a lot of Chrome tabs - 20/30 is normal for me, also need to consider appserver & webserver). Maybe a bit virtualization (Oracle VirtualBox + Vagrant settings), but I might dual-boot with Linux. Light gaming: Mostly played old games (Sim City 4, old Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege 2, Civilization, Football Manager.. I'm more into RPG/strategy). Maybe wanted to try new games e.g. Diablo 3/Starcraft 2/Dota 2/Watch Dog, but not priority. Much prefer not online games now that I'm married (although I do miss the good ol times of playing RO and Dota 1 v5/v6 sometimes [Hardware existing/reuse] Monitor - got Samsung 19" (only 1366x768), keyboard & mouse. [Games/Softwares used frequently] Softwares: Netbeans, IntelliJ, PhpStorm, Photoshop, Tomcat/Glassfish/Apache stuffs, VirtualBox and Vagrant, dual-boot Windows/Linux. Games: see above. Not a heavy gamer. [Personal preferences] - Small form factor if possible (eyeing for CM Elite 130 - need that USB3!) - If possible Mobo include Wifi (my Unifi is installed at ruang tamu, don't want to pull LAN cable). - Not planning to OC at all. Thinking either Xeon/i7 4790, but can't decide which. Not sure should go with just integrated GPU or is it worth it to get a graphic card... - 8GB RAM, can still tolerate no SSD (maybe future upgrade). Question: 1) Do I still need CPU cooler for heavy workload? Or stock cooler still okay? Worried that running too much stuff at one time will get too much CPU heat then blow my mobo 2) B85 vs H97 motherboard; apart from CPU support, what's the advantage of getting H97? Is B85 not future-proof? 3) Can suggest future upgrade? Which one first? SSD/RAM? Maybe not GPU (if already suggested) since I'm not playing newest game (but I might add another monitor for 1 vertical / 1 horizontal settings). Thanks sifu! I5 + GTX750ti + SSD should not go wrong for you. Make it a xeon is also a viable choice and technically more future proof too. Since you like multitasking and do some photoshop, can consider directly grab 2x 8GB RAM. Lastly, 720p monitor is hardly sufficient nowadays, try trade in it for a better one if that's me This post has been edited by Human10: Jan 6 2015, 11:24 PM |

QUOTE(playxboxwii @ Feb 2 2015, 01:17 AM) tq for the suggestion Despite the 3.5GB fiasco around lately, GTX970 is still undoubted the best performance to price card at the moment. You won't say it is expensive after seeing how powerful it is.is there anything i can downgrade a bit the graphics card seems bit expensive..is it that worth it? can run ac unity/ps4 graphics game smoothly?? No idea on what you mean by ps4 graphics game, but GTX 970's graphic processing power is at least 4x better than what is in PS4. As for running AC unity smoothly, the game itself is poorly optimized (when it just launch, I didn't follow up on what's after that), and resulting poor performance. It is not a problem with GPU being not powerful enough. This post has been edited by Human10: Feb 2 2015, 02:49 AM |

QUOTE(tlts @ Feb 6 2015, 08:56 PM) i dun really like to overclock it scared might break it..u know la this is a few hundred ringgit stuff..not few buck stuff.. If you get a k, you have the options to choose whether OC or not.But if you get a non-k, you will be locked up with the same performance forever, just like my case, LOL... |

QUOTE(tlts @ Feb 6 2015, 09:07 PM) i see a lot of sifu here and youutuber say i5 is veli enuf for gaming...since i dont do any thing extreme so is enuf for my use and can save a bit haha The gaming industry is evolving in term of specs requirement quite intensively these 2 years.Especially with more and more console ports from lazy developers, higher CPU power is simply safer and more future proof path. |

QUOTE(tlts @ Feb 6 2015, 09:11 PM) Cause PS4 and XB1 are on x86 architecture, portings become an easier task.Milking on PC platform becoming easier. But that asides, there's still cases which native PC games require huge CPU processing power. BF4 multiplayers is one of them. This post has been edited by Human10: Feb 6 2015, 09:17 PM |

QUOTE(firefake @ Feb 8 2015, 01:09 PM) This is definitely the most ridiculous myth I had ever heard, LOL... If so then those GPU OEM which not making mobo (Zotac, Sapphire, Gainward, Leadtek and bla bla) don't need sell already. This post has been edited by Human10: Feb 8 2015, 02:36 PM |

QUOTE(@skyhawk@ @ Feb 8 2015, 02:00 PM) Viewnet's pricelist? But they may not update their pricelist with store price regularly.http://www.lowyat.net/pc-hardware-pricelist-viewnet/ Also, I saw there Kingston HyperX 3k cost RM429, also an interesting choice for this http://www.lowyat.net/2014/12/two-ssds-sur...-worth-of-data/ |

QUOTE(FluffyTee @ Feb 10 2015, 02:47 AM) Hi guys, this request rig may sound a lil wierd and some of u may tell me to just get a TV box or sumting. But it need it to be able to run in Windows. Try Intel NUC.[Budget] As low as reasonably achievable. [Purpose] Build size as small as reasonably achievable with.. Connect to my 40" TV via HDMI port. Able to connect to internet router via WIFI. Able to stream videos from WDmycloud. USB 3.0 port CD rom drive needed. Able to perform browsing/youtube. Able to play movies (at least 1080p smoothly) [Personal preferences] able to run windows 7 (or 8) Basically I'm looking for a TV box running windows. Tq in adv. ![]() As for CD ROM, get external one. QUOTE(Furanshisu @ Feb 10 2015, 06:19 AM) Thank you Minecrafter for your help. Yes, I have checked and it has free international shipping. Warranty shouldn't be an issue since it's from Gigabyte itself. Technically speaking, PC parts (except speakers/monitors) are not taxable before this. Not sure if custom will decide to put a sale tax on it though.I took some time to look around and came up with this. Seeking advice on this build's efficiency(cpu+mobo) Prices from Viewnet. CORE I5 4590 1150 3.30 6MB - 669 B85-PRO GAMER INTEL 1150 - 409 HX316C10FB FURY 1600 - 249 TRANSCEND 128GB SSD 370 SERIES - 229 DESKTOP WD 1TB SATA - 179 CORSAIR 400R / 760T (Blk) - 339 (price from cycom) SEASONIC 550W G-SERIES MODULAR - 359 COOLER MASTER HYPER 212X - 149 Total - 2582 (and i haven't included GPU... need to raise budget, lol) Since the Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming is cheaper in Amazon after USD to MYR conversion I thought I might just buy from Amazon instead. The only question I have is how the import fee/duty would be charged for it. Has anyone here ever ordered any computer parts from Amazon or eBay? As for warranty, it doesn't mean that it is gigabyte then you can claim gigabyte warranty through gigabyte malaysia for products bought from other countries. You probably need to contact back gigabyte US/TW when want to claim warranty. This post has been edited by Human10: Feb 10 2015, 03:26 PM |

QUOTE(yipsss @ Feb 10 2015, 10:01 PM) Thanks sifus for the suggestions. Usually the same, unless there's an price hike and they had yet/forget update the pricelist.Sifus mentioned "Viewnet" in most of the suggestions. May i know how and where should i go to assemble the rig? Directly go to their shops? Would the actual price differ from their price list? Also, if you are cash and carry, you can request for some price cut. |

QUOTE(ErgoProxi @ Feb 12 2015, 01:13 PM) Nope, msata port (for netcard) usually come bundled with netcard. Except if you are talking bout Intel NUC.And I don't see why you wouldn't want that card, it is a pretty solid Intel ac dualband card. This post has been edited by Human10: Feb 12 2015, 06:28 PM |
