My previous 6 mth 3.7% HLB FD matured today & went to do a rentas transfer to another bank. Tried to persuade me to retain FD there. 6 mths FD 4% under Islamic FD, 12 mths 4.1%. This was at HLB Bandar Puteri. Withdrew anyway coz wanted to place in OCBC & add to SCB trow.

Shucks .. and I thought for every placement of RM30k fresh funds will be entitled 1 entry for the OCBC Ang Pow contest. Wanted to place RM90k for 3x entries, then when informed can only join 1x, placed only RM30k for 12mths/4.2%. First time opening any account in OCBC. I must say, indeed got lengluis at the Bandar Puteri branch. Unfortunately, only lengchai serve me instead.

SCB FD promo FD still available till end March of fulfilment of quota. Just placed my first 15 month FD for 15tmths/4.5% (my longest term ever laugh.gif )

Ambank Gold Contest
- Every RM10k = 5 entries
- New customer = Double the entries
- PB customer = triple the entries + extra 0.05% FD interest on top of 4.08%
So stupid though, wanted to open PB to triple my odds. Instead, they will have someone call me coz no one available to entertain me. What this tells me is that PB status in Ambank is pointless as no dedicated counters/rooms to provide service.

All this at Bandar Puteri Puchong branches ..

So really true that OCBC employing leng lui in their branches in M'sia !  drool.gif

But their process of opening acct is damn long. Mine about 1.5hrs. Wanted to complain except the RM leng lui is real sui.  drool.gif How about yours application time ?  hmm.gif
Oh I see, so at least I have chance for the Ang Pow Contest (by not applying through RinggitPlus).

However just received an SMS saying this contest ending 18/3.  biggrin.gif

Took me less than half hour. Maybe your leng lui want to keep you there longer than needed leh

Their contest runs for 3 weeks, with winners for each week. Today is the end of 2nd week. Trow starts the last week. You can place another RM30k tomorrow for a second chance. But you can only win 1x the Ang Pow, if you're lucky to be the winner twice within that 3 weeks.

If i am looking for FD for a year (12months) and if the promo from some banks e.g. UOB, CIMB and OCBC are all the same - the effective rate of 4.2% for a year - what are the considerations to pick btw them.

I know that these banks got certain elements to the promo - break down the interests rate (OCBC) or unfixed (CIMB) - but lets say i confirm keeping it for 12 months and I am only concerned abt the effective rate.

Is it just about the location/accessibility?

One area you may look at is whether the interest is given to you on a 6 mths basis or not. If it is, you won't have to wait till the end of 12 months for some of the intetesr. Maybe not because you need the money, but because the money given to you at the 6 months period can be reuse to further invest it.

RM100k @ 4%pa will give you RM2k after 6 months. May not seem like much, but hey money is money cool2.gif

Went to UOB with RM150k. Wanted to place on their 6 mths @ 4.05%. Then got sweet talked into purchasing a PRU retirement fund with RM23k p/a for the next 3 years. Then ended with the best deal she can give, which was, RM30k for 3 mths @ 7.1% and the other RM9xk for 4 mths @ 4.1%. Was procrastinating on retirement fund anyway. So, why not now.

I'm so gullible laugh.gif
