Movies only go so far.

And the earliest version of any legend is usually the correct one.

The Nine Emperor Gods festivities have commenced across the causeway.

In these photos, devotees carry palanquins with incense urns out to the seaside to imbue said urns with the spiritual essence of the Nine Emperors before bringing them back to their temples for prayers.

The Hungry Ghost Festival is meant to be creepy.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival, not at all - it's meant to be a majestic and awe inspiring occasion.

Who are the Nine Emperor Gods?

The Nine Emperor Gods are nine powerful cosmic deities who correspond to the stars in the Big Dipper Constellation, and who preside over sidereal matters plus issues of fate, life and death.

Lady Dou Mu, the Goddess of the North Star, is their mother.

Some state that the Nine Emperors manifested as nine Ming Dynasty admirals, who waged war against the invading Manchus.

It is for this reason (that they were warriors of the high seas), and also in light of the fact that heavenly bodies exert influence over the tides, that the Nine Emperors are said to arrive via the waterways during their festival, and that marine/seaside rituals are performed to invite them.

Devotees who participate in these rituals dress in white, the colour of purity, and abstain from meat plus other vices during the festivities.

Below are a picture of the Nine Emperors and their mother in statue form, and a picture of mediums channeling the Nine Emperors.

An incense urn imbued with the essence of the Nine Emperors during one of the previously documented seaside rituals is placed in a sedan and paraded around a neighbourhood to bless the inhabitants and their homes.

Went to a temple for prayers for Nine Emperors, the "loan" that the temple gave, would like to ask do we keep the money or we have to spend it?

You can do whatever you see fit with the money, as long as you don't use it for an immoral purpose.

A great video of a Hell deity gathering across the causeway.

The Li Ya Pek who appears at 22:13 is wearing a hat designed and sponsored by yours truly.

Not sure this is the right place to ask, one of my house rented to a guy who practices worshipping 阴神, was worried will this affect the well being of me and my family?

Hell deities are the law enforcement officers of the spirit world; upholders of truth and justice.

Positive entities, despite their ghoulish appearances.

They will never harm righteous, innocent or pure hearted people.

What a strange question.

Anything goes, my friend, as long as you don't post something totally irrelevant to the discussion or refer to Chinese folk religion as 'Taoism', which it isn't. tongue.gif
