wow i am glad i discovered this post! i'm keen on getting braces done but concerned about the costs. anyone has good ortho to recommend? i'm already 25, so maybe i should go for the 'clear' braces called invisalign? i personally dun mind metal braces but scared my bf will mind. does anyone know if invisalign will take longer / shorter than metal braces? how are the cost differences like? thanks yea!!

straightening the teeth isn't enough right?
how about whitening? what's the cost? straightening+whitening+perfect oral care=a perfect smile (IMO) |

I also had undergone the treatment more than few years ago, cannot remember much of the year in a private clinic after I cannot wait under the waiting list from the goverment clinic.
Whole treatment costs RM3400+RM200 as my severity was very high. RM200 for 4 teeth extractions so the other teeth has space to go in, upper 2 and lower 2 teeth. Normal conventional braces was given to me that time and I did not actually feel the pain but just numbness, feeling of tightening... and have to cut or make food into smaller pieces in order to swallow or eat, cannot even chewing. Visit specialist once per month that time to check on the progress and oral hygiene, during treatment, teeth tend to get dirty quicker as normal brushing was less effective during treatment. After 2 years time and now wearing retainer for whole life (advised by doctor) during sleeping time. Now not only I can chew properly and also close mouth properly but also nicer smile and people commented that look alot better than before. a colleague of mine did her teeth whitening in a place called the Smile Clinic ( i think) in the Curve, Petaling Jaya. It cost about rm1400 if i am not mistaken (should be around that amount la) but only took like 1 hour or something. She showed me a before and after picture of her teeth. Looked very nice indeed, altho i did not say that, in actual fact, it didn't make that much of a difference in her appearance because her teeth were not like yellow or whatever in the first place. hehe.
Anyone know if Invisalign is available in Malaysia? I would consider my case to be severe too, but i dunno for sure...need to ask dentist. If not, where is the cheapest (but reliable!) place to get conventional braces? Thanks!! |

hey all, I just had mine put in 2 weeks ago, cost was RM2500 at the smile clinic in the curve. I must say, the experience so far is pretty painful. I couldnt eat anything solid for 2 weeks now. As an example, I couldnt even chew on fried eggs or maggi mee, but its getting better these few days to the point where I can start eating fried noodles now. The doctor said the initial pain is normal as the titanium braces are making my teeth loose.

Metal type. I think so, but the current cost of treatment inclusive of the braces and accessories I am not too sure. My case, slight pain to numbness initially for the first 2 weeks, later on, will feel better. Teeth extractions hurt abit not to the extent of severe pain after the pain killer effect subsided. hi quick-shaq,
i dont think it works that way, cause if u pull out only two teeth, it will cause wrong bite (ie: more upper teeth than lower teeth) which is a problem in itself. maybe if u r lucky, no need to pull out any teeth! :-) |

And it is only suitable for those that have minor teeth problem. It take longer to see result, some said forever. Why not try Ceramic braces ?? I also will wear braces using my own money soon after I will get dental consultation though all my family members said my teeth is OK.... Who carss, its my money & my teeth... See how first la, considering ceramic braces, though some peope said metal braces was stronger... I m 22 between |

QUOTE(Eisenmeteor @ May 20 2007, 10:44 PM) Now wearing retainer..Juz got my upper today..hard to put the retainer thn the lower one le..Any opinions? You gotta wear it for longer period especially when you just took your braces off. Cuz once the pressure is off, your teeth starts moving. That is why u need to put on the retainers to maintain the shape. The reason why you find it difficult to put your upper retainers on could be due to the fact tht your jaw structure has moved. Normally suggested by the doctor you wear your retainers on for 24hrs until the movement becomes stable. Suggest you go to your doctor and tell him your problem. He will adjust it for you and you should be fine. But make sure u wear it all the time for the first 2 months. This post has been edited by matttzz: May 22 2007, 10:43 PM |

Extractions with straight roots are not painful at all. Those with crab claw style roots will hurt abit as pressure is required to pull em out..sometimes surgery required with BIG roots. |
