With the news of XBox 360 will get a 1080p dashboard update, do u think that it would be more difficult for Sony to justify PS3' price.

As for Microsoft's 1080p announcement, Karraker noted that the software update still doesn't enable true HD on the Xbox 360. "Furthermore, Microsoft's announced HD games patch is really just a compatibility feature -- upscaling lower-resolution content does not make it Full HD (1080p), something that PS3 can do out of the box," he said.

THe HD DVD add on is not even in the market yet this Karakatua guy is certain that it wont do a full HD. biggrin.gif

After getting word of Sony's comments Microsoft told GameDaily BIZ that contrary to the SCEA statement, "The facts are that with this software update, video and game content developed for 1080p will be output at 1080p -- native, not upscaled. Only content developed for lower resolutions will be upscaled."

wow i am AMAZED .. at that price, it can do a 1080p (may it be 1080p24, 1080p60 bla bla bla) Even Toshiba's $499 HD DVD player dont do 1080p .. What chip is XBox 360 using for its video encoding?

Hell even the Samsung BD Player at $999 dont do native 1080p24, meaning stripping 1080p24 native signal from the disk and pump it out directly.

QUOTE
"It's unfortunate that Microsoft's external HD-DVD drive will not enhance the experience at all for the gamer," said Karraker. "Sony realizes that to truly take gaming into the next generation requires a larger data format for both games and movies. PS3 uses the Blu-ray format for gaming, giving developers 50 GB of high-definition storage on a single disc, while Microsoft's 9 GB DVD gaming format is an obstacle for storing HD content."

its coming to a FULL half year after the launch of BD and there is STILL ABSOLUTELY no sign of 50GB BD movie titles in the market. And people are willing to cut their balls off if they see EVEN 1 PS3 game using 50GB BD disk. tongue.gif

MS have just confirmed that :

VGA:

HD DVD - 1080p resolution and all others
DVD - Upscaled as high as 1080p resolution and all others
Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

Component:

HD DVD - 1080i resolution maximum, limited by AACS
DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

XBox360 has a fake 1080p, its not a true 1080p HD. All the XBox360 does is Upscaling, meaning... a 720 signal will be widen and fits into a 1080p. Thus the quality isnt that impressive.

that is according to Sony .. tongue.gif ... MS has already confirmed that XBox 360 will do 1080p rendering (NOT upscalling) for both game and movie. It only upscale when the source is 720p or lower. smile.gif

Bigger numbers play a big role in marketing. 1080 sounds a lot bigger than 720. Some people are sold on the numbers alone even if they can't really notice a difference. Well they will "see" the difference, but it's mostly a placebo effect. Much like those new bose speakers "sound awesome". LOL.

often, ignorant consumers fall for that. Limited Double Blu-ray Disk Collector's Collection for 90min Disney cartoons !!

CEs will always be CEs (console makers included) ... when XBox 360 is without 1080p .. Sony claim they do HD at 1080p. When XBox 360 announced 1080p, Sony immediately say "yeah they do 1080p but not natively". Then MS said that XBox 360 will do 1080p natively.. What else will they come out with. Their spin doctors are already playing Toshiba HD DVD player's 1080p60 vs Blu-ray's 1080p24. It wont stop ... consumers just need to realise that it wont stop when it comes to technological advancement. They should just get what they need. Unless they have Bill Gate and Li Ka Shin as their sugar daddies!! .. (Uncle Bill according to the latest world richest people list is at No. 1. Uncle Li is at No. 10)
