oo, but i think max speed will not be archived by me since i'm using the original cpu fan, dunno wat fan to buy and i think high clock speed will giv a very high temperature
*
Yup. To get high OC while reducing the chance of your CPU overheating, it is better to have performance HSF.

There are a lot of good high performance HSF in the market. It depends on you which one you want. For price/performance HSF, I recommend the Xigmatek s1293!!! However, this is quite a new HSF and still awaiting further reviews on this HSF.

is the price expensive for this heatsink? do i need to have alot of casing fan to work with it? because for now im not having a casing fan, 1 more things, is it very stress for 3000+ to work in vista? as im using vista now and overclock my pc to 245Mhz FSB, it works ok, but still playing games is quite lag, even with old games like counter strike it still lags
*
Price is RM 17x in bulk. However, don't take my word for it. You should do some research and see what type of heatsink would be suitable for you and your rig.

No need a lot of casing fan. But the more the better!

Currently, it is a no no to play games in Vista. Not until DX10 comes out anyway.....

hmmm, i thought dx10 was released, that means the game wont be smooth until i have dx10? currently i dont have any casing fan, i open up the casing and let be so, sometimes when the weather is hot i will switch on my fan to cool it, is there anymore cheaper alternative? hmmm, what clock speed will that heatsink bring 3000+ to?
*
What I mean is GOOD DX10 games. The one game many people are waiting for is "crysis", only coming out in November.

Games in Vista won't be as smooth as in Windows XP as the graphic drivers are not mature yet. Still buggy too. With time, it will improve but as of now, it is not recommended to game in Vista unless you have a high-end GC that can crank out high fps, making any slow down not noticeable......

There's a lot of cheap computer fans. Go shopping at pc fair! laugh.gif

glad to hear that thumbup.gif, don't play with orthos tongue.gif, play in the BIOS, increase your FSB to 250MHz onwards brows.gif, your Toledo begging you for more brows.gif
*
Why not orthos? I usually use orthos to test for stability. I usually use the small FFTs to stress the CPU. However, some forumers actually recommend the following settings in orthos for stressing the CPU:

Custom setting:
Min FFT - 8k
Max FFT - 512k
Time to run each FFT size : 1 minute
Check the "Run FFTs in-place"

In addition, some would use OCCT for stress test.....

I read from xs, some pple there say use blend test for orthos, since for AMD the mem. controller is built in. Blend test would be a better indication of stability.
In my case, usually if the first hour doesnt have any errors, then 90% the pc is stable.
*
As far as I know, blend test is to test for the stability of your whole rig.

For CPU stability - use the above example or small FFTs

For RAM stability - use memtest

wow...my x2 really likes voltage. LOL...cant get pass 2.35Ghz other day. after adding more voltage, now become 1.425v in bios. lower in windows (CPUz, everest = 1.39v).

i noticed a drop became 1.36 while Orthos stress while using 1.4v (1.38v in cpuz), that's when Orthos gave me error. laugh.gif

i wonder wat's the safe range of voltage? i read somewhere x2 toledo core can go up to 1.45+v within the safe range.
*
So how much can you OC so far?

Here's a general guide on Vcore and max temp:

need help from u all...  icon_question.gif

my current mobo is Abit KN9.. Proc X2 3800+

then i buy new Proc X2 4000+ .. and 8800gts 320...
my prob, my new gc cant fit on my Abit KN9, just bcause of 3pcs of capacitor, those cap too tall, and when i plug on my 8800gts. hsf cover hit those cap.. so my 8800, didnt plug in properly.. don't want take risk. thinking might be short circuit, if just ignore this prob. eheh  biggrin.gif  so i might want to buy new mobo for this gc n proc...

may i know, who is using 8800series, and what mobo u using with ur 8800series...

tq....

Maybe you can ask the question in this thread : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/456301/+2240

kmarc: yeah, i got the exact same table from within this thread i think. LOL...so it is reliable source eh? i cant seem to find any other convenient resources. laugh.gif maybe i havent really look through them.

currently still on 2.4Ghz. haha...when I'm free i will try to go higher. but i wont go to the limits. just wanted to get a lil bit more juice from what I bought. where's ur 4200? wanna sell to me? laugh.gif
*
Don't really know whether it is reliable or not. Look quite convincing though.... smile.gif

My X2 4200+ already in my wife's rig..... laugh.gif

Cool! I'm building a multimedia PC and acquired a cheap Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8Ghz Winchester.....

So, in order to reduce power usage, I decided to undervolt it..... incredibly, it is running at full speed at 1.8Ghz at 1.10v instead of the stock 1.35v!!! rclxms.gif (or is it 1.45v.... can't remember)

CPUz is showing 1.088v...... now stressing it to see whether it is stable.....

At idle, I've set it to run at 1.0Ghz at 1.0v...... hmmm.... should I set it to 0.800v.... hmm.gif

stock Vcore is 1.35~1.4V
but bro, 1000MHz machine enough use for you?
i rather stick to 200x9 at 1.1V or 200x8 sleep.gif
*
It's running idle at 1.0Ghz @ 1.0v and 1.8Ghz (200x9) @ 1.1v..... smile.gif

It's a shuttle PC, put in my living room, to play music and movies.... laugh.gif

Too bad my TV is the normal one, one day.... will get a LCD TV.... drool.gif

Anyway, here's the stability test. The VID in core temp also changed!!! whistling.gif

i have overclocked my cpu (athlon xp 5000+)

it goes to 3.1xx(dun quite remember.......)

but it hangs and sometime restart when got onto windows....

so actually cant log into windows....

somethings wrong?
*
Did you check for stability? Use orthos or prime95 and stress your OC to make sure it is stable.....

kingston value ram ddr2 667 @1000mhz (6-6-6-18-24)

I'm hving prob with ram timing.. how to find the best ram timing?
*
What do you mean by finding the best ram timing? The lower the timings, the better it is i.e. 4-4-4-12 is better than 5-5-5-15 which is better than 6-6-6-18.....

i know that edi.. but using 5-5-5-15 i cant even boot to window.. is that mean that for my ram @1000mhz thats the limit?
*
Even if you can boot into windows, it may still not be stable.... you still need to stress the rams to make sure that they are stable at that particular speed....

You can try to increase the vdimm..... stock should be 1.8v.... remember to put fans to blow on the rams if you go above 2.0v vdimm.... and remember that rams can get damaged the higher you set the vdimm (Overclock at your own risk!!! wink.gif ) .... max limit would probably be 2.2v and below....

Why not check out my guide on DDR2 overclocking.... you can use this particular method to find the limits of your rams... of course, there are other ways to do it too.... wink.gif
