Hey is Singapore tap water can be drink directly? Or should I buy a water filter?

Normally people don't do that but working in construction, I see many construction worker doing that.

Typical fresh graduate get around $2800++, but since you are from Malaysia, you will get $2500 or below. Also for being Malaysian you will need to pay taxes in both Malaysia and Singapore. As for rental $1000 would be the minimum with another $1000 living cost.

Sekian terima kasih

hmm.gif Pay taxes in both M'sia and SG?

Rental minimum 1000?

Living cost 1000??

Are there cheaper alternatives? I guess depends on the area?
*
Erm... Solo room you should expect somewhere from 550 to 800 depends on area and provided utilities.

Share room around 400/pax should be good enough.

Of course there're places that rent easily goes up to 1000 like somewhere around Orchard/Raffles Place (provided you could find a place to stay there).

I heard my friend said one of her friends rent a studio for 1000 or 1100 but then they're in the medical field and earn so much more than poor engineer like me.

cry.gif cry.gif I know I no earn 10k SGD per month. How to spend $30/day on food unless someone pay for it? brows.gif

$1000 for food is almost half of my salary d doh.gif

Hi guys/gals, i will be going over to SG on the 1st of May, and i will be getting my EPass card when im at SG.

Wanna ask, can i enter with white card then when i get my EP card, can i use EP to exit SG? and what about the white card? do i have to do anything with the white card? or do i need to exit with the white card and re-enter back with the EP card
*
Done your medical check?

After you do medical check get report, you will make appointment to take photo and thumb print at EP Service Center.

There you need to handover your white card else you won't be able to get your EP.

Can the medical check be done at malaysia? Because from the website,it says its ok, but my recruitment agency seems to be saying I have to do it there.
*
Most people do it here. I done it at my company assigned medical centre. I think they will ask you to do it here too. Less hassle else later this cannot that cannot you also susah.

Why? No time to get it done?

I came here just few days before i start working to do medical check. Then drag until end of first month only go thumb print haha My white card almost expired then biggrin.gif

I see...yeah they also asked to go to a certain assigned medical place. Not really no time, just that it's kinda easier for me to do here first as im more familiar with hospitals here tongue.gif

But if do here no reimbursement haha.

So after sending in my medical,i have got quite some time to do the thumb print thing, thats not bad. Hopefully i will have some free time later during the weekdays to do that.

Thanks again IwanAGP biggrin.gif

Erm... Normally your HR will ask you go one la. Even during workday, it's just a 15 minutes process anyway.

Take the earliest session probably at around 8 or 8.30 am and back to work after that.

SPM holder with experience. Why can't 3k?

Some supervisor level in construction also fetching 3k la also with SPM level only. But they need to OT to get to 3k.

Money is there to be earned. Just whether you have the capacity to earn it only wink.gif

PS: I'm still earning much less than 3k anyway sad.gif

QUOTE(Humanoid @ Apr 30 2015, 08:29 PM)
hey guys,

what do think is best if wanna find a room to rent?

get an agent or find it from website and contact the owner?

whats the proper way/procedure to rent a room? I might be heading to SG for body check up, thinking to settle the room together at one trip

looking into bedok area. TQ
*
It's kinda hard to find advertisement by owner online.

Most probably all the ads you see are advertised by agent.

Even if owner do advertise, agent will engage them so they help to get the room rented out and get to earn commission.

But there are some dirty tricks actually in the room rental business. By law agent can only collect commission from one side. I think my cousin one collected from both but she lazy go take any action. Then the agents start to come together to sort of co-broke. Like when you see an ads, it's advertised by Agent B. Agent B bring you to the room to view, you will meet Agent A and the owner. Agent A represents the owner while Agent B represents you. This way if you decided to take the room, Agent B take commission from you while Agent A gets his/hers from the owner.

But in the proper way, if you engaged Agent A (who represents the owner), and decided you want to take the room, you shouldn't be paying any commission since the agent is engaged by the owner. Owner will be the one who pay half month commission to agent unless certain agreement has been made between them and also expressed to potential tenant that they have to bear the commission.

That's what I understand la just to share.

I'm newbie in SG so others might know more clearly. wink.gif

hello guys, I'm a final year student in Mechanical Engineering. I would like to try my luck in Singapore but I'm not sure whether companies there would give me a chance since I still have 7 months to go.

Any advice for me? Should I wait till I graduate or can I start scouting for opportunities now?
*
7 months is a little too long but you can always talk to the employer and the interviewer. I believe you should highlight that in your resume and during your job application too.

If they ask for interview, highlight to them again. If they really want you, they'll probably wait. Otherwise there's always people out there to grab the opportunity.

No harm trying though. Just that you might let chances slip since you might end up already apply most of the job positions you're interested in. If kena reject you will apply again? haha

QUOTE(Humanoid @ May 1 2015, 01:58 AM)
so lets say if I am looking a room, booked appointment with agent/owner, if confirm I need to pay deposit on the spot? or pay all amount? or can pay half half? not a small amount if after conversion.

need how long for all the procedure? is it before I go Singapore already need to inform the owner/agent so I can view on the spot when I reach SG, they already prepared the doc?
*
Depends. For me, when I confirm, I pay one month deposit. After I move in I pay one month rental then half month commission to agent. But that's few months after I start working here I move place la. My first room here is a partitioned room which is illegal biggrin.gif But that kind of room has flexibility. Deposit one month + $100 for utility then just inform one month earlier to move out. Which means minimum is 2 months stay.

Btw... You can't really get anything done without your EP card unless the owner & agent is ok for you to provide your EP information after that but without the EP, you can't enter into agreement.

You probably can ask to pay just a small amount of deposit like $200 to book the room. Ask for receipt when you do so. Then when everything is confirmed and you got your EP, go ahead and pay remaining deposit and enter into agreement. You can't rent a room legally with just your passport.

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ May 1 2015, 01:56 PM)
I dun think booking will work. Its more like first come first serve basis. You can view what ever the agent have on that day itself. Confirm already pay agent fees, deposit & rental. Sign agreement. If you are not decisive,  there's always other ppl waiting.
*
But i thought the market is quite stagnant right now. I dragged two weeks when I was looking for room back in January and all still available for me to pick haha

QUOTE(XiuKeong @ May 1 2015, 08:41 PM)
Wanna ask, I got an offer which qualifies me to get both type of passes. But from what I read, E-Pass is mainly for employees with >3.4k which is higher than my offer. So what are the chances to get E-Pass approved?

**My future employer S-Pass quota has finished.
*
You degree holder or??

If degree holder (not sure about diploma) they probably give you EP. Otherwise maybe MOM will only give S Pass. If S Pass quota max then too bad.

Should be EP d. SP is for Skilled Worker. Got degree most probably consider professional d.

Don't bother looking at the 3.4k thingy. It's not for Malaysian fresh grad unless you got into some of the really big and high pay company.

Will you guys go back to Malaysia after a few years ? or settledown at singapore?

You're 1990-born right?

For our age, it's still too early to say anything. 3~5 years down the road we should have the answer.

Btw I'm 91 tongue.gif Now also thinking will go back after 3~5 years but it's really hard to tell. Nothing is firm until time comes.

QUOTE(falcon21 @ May 3 2015, 10:37 PM)
I had just cancelled my EP and my short term visit pass is coming to an end. I am still seeking new employment at the moment but have yet to found 1.

My questions is, how long can i stay in singapore with the white card(embarkation card)? From what I came across, maximum is 90 days but usually the immigration give 30 days.

Let's say for worst case I still haven't been able to secure a job/company that I wanted, can i just go to JB and get a new white card for another 30 days stay? Again, some say can while others you say need to leave SG for at least 5 days?

Your replies/assistance are much appreciated.
*
I'm not so sure about that but I think you can only stay one month after your EP get cut right? I remember reading something like that somewhere.

You should've looked for new jobs before you quit the old one. That way you can transition without hiccup.

wow this is tricky.
i think the best is you give the immigration department a call to confirm the last day of stay.
otherwise it's serious if you are being banned from entering singapore in the future.
*
If I wasn't wrong, a 30 days white card will be issued.

Because when you get the pass done and do the thumb print, they'll take back your old white card you use when you enter singapore.

Then when a pass is canceled, i think a 30 days white card will be issued. I read it somewhere. You may want to google for it.

hey guys, if after signed the contract of rented room, and after stayed in, but found out its not to your liking, as many thing like bed is not in good condition, room has many bugs, wifi signal not reachable, what can we do next? other than complain to landlord?

if problem still not solved yet, can we ask for return of deposit and rental and cancel the contract?
*
You better sort it out from landlord. You signed the contract and I believe theres a minimum period stated. By law, all advantages are by their side so they dont really have to tolerate and pay you back your deposit. Not to mention that owner has to pay half month to their agent too.

guys, just secured a room nera Queenstown but without internet.
can recommend what kind of plan should i go for? normal broadband or fibre or wifi hotspot?

i also might need to apply postpaid number, any combo plan with broadband as well?

do i need to have employment pass card issued first before i can apply those?
*
To use at home, only those fibre plan worth it but most if no all comes with 2 years contract. It's going to be a mess if you apply under your own name and move somewhere else after that. Not to say whether your owner even allow you to apply since installation has to be done in their house.

Best if you can nego to increase rent and ask your owner to install for you.

1GBPS Fibre is the most worth with no quota and just $50 per month. Those mobile broadband comes no where near.

You need your card before you can apply those. You need your card before you can open bank account too or you can choose to open bank account with your passport. Need deposit though.

just serve lolyat and watch utube

those wifi hotspot no good and no stable ah?

What you mean wifi hotspot? I thought that works the same as a normal broadband (data plan)? Or got special plan for that.

Anyway the best solution is to nego with your house owner. Else it will be a mess sweat.gif

Can a person with EP IPA letter in/out and stay in Sg without the need of whitecard?
Can stay for how long and remain in Sg?
*
You need the white card.

You may start work/stay in SG with the IPA + Whitecard.

You need to give up your whitecard when you do thumbprint/take photo for your EP/SP/WP.

I guess you can stay for just 60 days? That's the limit for white card. 60 days over 90 days I think.
