If he die die wanna come SG then the right choice is to accept something lower, unless there is some unknown reason why he thinks that things will change in the near future haha

Most people fail to take the person's goal into consideration when giving advice. Not everyone's goal is the same hence the correct move will not be the same

Depends on one's goal. If have patience and options, one wouldn't even accept something lower.
Yup, but don't think we so stupid request lower pay lol. Usually employer offer lower pay and the situation would be take it or leave it. Hence, "cheap FTs".  laugh.gif
*
You mean like, complain that increment is too high and demand a lower pay? sweat.gif
Maybe its a reverse psychology effect, make the employer think harder and offer higher instead

Haha.. thanks man. Definitely will. Last time they housed me. This time, they say no more spare room.. and since I've been moved permanently to my sg office, I need to find my own place..

As very sudden, I haven't had chance to discuss salary packages yet. All I was told is they will apply for my epass, which shouldn't be an issue as I meet all the criteria. I.e. specialized degree, prior work experience, same company, etc.

But now I'm having second doubts if this is the right move.. As rental rates are very high and sg lifestyle isn't my liking. I.e. if want to drink at hip and trendy place, compared to Msia, it cost a bomb..

oh wells.. see how it goes this Wed.. if my company doesn't remunerate me properly, I may start looking for other work.

In terms of finding temp accom, I think bunking in backpackers for two or three days will do. Budget around 15sgd/day is ok? Or need more. Will be Damn awkward staying with travellers and suddenly got one white collar professional waking up at 6am whilst they stumble drunk to sleep.. wahahaha..
*
Ask an agent to look for a place for you ASAP
There are many open HDB rooms for rent available immediately if you're not too picky, the whole process will only take a couple days then you can move in straight (get the money ready for deposit)

Read the approval letter for instruction? Go marina and scream your lung out? Post in HWZ and let locals bombard you? Go get some TB or Aids so your medical checkup will fail? Get ready for CPF pay cut? Don't know man. Do what you want to do.
*
What are you senior guys' thoughts regarding CPF as a PR?
I'm still not sure if that's good or bad, mainly depending on whether O plan to become a citizen eventually IMO

SG Gahmen do things sure correct one. I say you just follow don't ask question. See what SG become under the policy compared to MY? Money in CPF good. For working class like me, CPF is the only ticket to buy a unit to live in SG. Then every month contribution settle the installment, so easy. Medical also taken care. Got kids, auto save for education some more. Worry free, why not?
*
Yeah I guess if you've decided to settle down in SG for good there are no downsides to it

I'm thinking more because I'm not sure if I will be here for good, in that case the CPF contribution may never be used

CPF is a big ponzi scam. Just becuase you think its Singapore you think they are clean?
Well not quite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_count..._by_public_debt
Singapore internal debt is 111% its GDP. What that means is that the SG gov borrows more than 100% of its GDP from its own bodies like Temasek, CPF, etc. The govenment cannot afford to repay those debts. They just can't.

Why do you think they keep rising the min age of withdrawal and now they even set a min sum for withdrawal under the pretext of helping or preventing their citizen who would spend all their money away? THe min sum keeps increasing and increasing every year. Why is that? Its becuase the gov cannot repay their citizens should they choose to withdraw their CPF lump sum en mass. That is why they try to smoke.
*
Well that's more of an economic policy discussion
I'm concerned of the effects on myself as an individual, unless you're suggesting that Singapore is going bankrupt due to that
In that case Japan and the USA will be too, if you judge solely based on gross debt to GDP %

Nope. But Singapore will just raise the min age for withdrawal and raise the min sum to be kept in your CPF lo.
Effectively you cannot withdraw your CPF if it is below SGD155k currently i think. And the amount is rising.
*
I wouldn't really mind that, as long as I do get it back eventually
Shouldn't be touching that money before retirement anyway

Then you already answered your own question.
*
You do not seem to understand the question, the question was whether CFP is good after becoming a PR (as opposed to being a non-PR and non-Citizen).
The main consideration here is for people such as myself who aren't sure if I will be in Singapore until I retire. Would it be better to lock down the money and take the extra contribution from my company while having do deal with the hassle of withdrawal if I move away, or just stay a non-PR without the company contribution

Then you came in with your ponzi scheme blablabla....absolutely nothing to do with the topic

Just give a call to the EP vendor and she said now MoM doesn't allow to start work with IPA and white card, must get the pass issued electronically first

I thought can start work with IPA and white card so I got more time to find room..
*
Yupp you need to go at least 1 day before to do the EP process
Need to make appointment so make sure to plan ahead

You dont need to have an address yet i think, you can just put your company address and inform them later when you get a place

If you value owning a house and car, and don't necessarily like Singapore as a country your life would probably be better in MY with 9k RM.

Car pool? Nice idea. But how much per trip.
Anyone know if let say once I get spass or epass and I married. Do have such rules or regulation which spouse cannot work in Singapore too.
*
What kind of rule can that be...just cause you're a E pass holder your spouse is not allowed to get an E pass of her own and work?
Your spouse can come and work if she gets a S/E pass just like everyone else

Working in Singapore

Dependants of Employment Pass holders can get a Letter of Consent to work in Singapore if they find a job here.
Dependants of S Pass holders will need to apply for a Work Permit, S Pass or Employment Pass instead. They will have to meet the eligibility criteria for these passes.

Note:
Dependant's Pass holders who get an Employment Pass or S Pass are required to cancel the Dependant's Pass.
For S Pass dependants who get a Work Permit, the Work Permit's validity period will be tied to that of the S Pass holder's pass.

Still wanted to find room at jurong east, boon lay, lakeside. Any lobang?

My work location in jurong east. Budget 300 to 400.
Been looking around but look harder due limit budget.

If roommate with Indian. Would be a problem? Any experience

I think that budget can only get shared room...
E Pass holder, raise your budget a bit ler, why come to SG to live a student life?

Shared room with Indian is a scary thing (no offence to our indian friends here)

A 40 year old guy with 15 years experience earning 6k, does it sound high?
