erm i need some help here, currently driving new saga, now i plan to install 5 inch speaker on my door side panel, isit necessary to put a amp?the 5 inch speaker compatible wit the original speaker at rear?isit necessary to do cross over?thx in advance

p/s:not a bass fan
*
If juz speaker no need unless u wan better sound... for normal listening it's more than enough from the original HU. If u have budget and wan better sound quality, get a component system and an amp, if wan better bass can install 6x9 at the rear for extra bass. i recommend u blaupunkt GTA-480 4ch amp or Boschmann amp, these r available in a lot of place, for starters these amps quite ok. The speakers juz go according to ur budget la, Boschmann quite cheap and quite gud for starters. Hope this help.

wuakaka, if u planning to install a cheap set of capalang speakers, i dun think it will be much use with amp, yea maybe slightly better than stock speakers. From my experience, i did big mistake and wasted money by installing lousy speakers up front, a capalang 6.5" midbass + a fake focal tweeter. i recommend u to do a mounting job for 6.5" up front, like i did with my own car, it was 5" originally, just add a piece of wood customised to ur door panel, i think most installers can do dat. For me 5" speakers not enuf kick for me. Unless u r ICE fanatic, get a set of component system up front that cost around rm1000. I saw a few forumer selling branded compo at less than 1k. get a 4ch amp and power the front and rear. If u dun plan to change ur HU, i think any compo system around 500 will do for u, cos HU very important in ICE, a lot of diff. For the rear speakers, i dun recommend u to spend too much on it unless u wanna show off. 3 most important stuffs in setting ur own sound stage, 1st $$$, 2nd A piece of gud HU, amp and front compo sets, lastly a gud installer that will advice u nicely on how to set up a nice system according to ur budget and car. PM me if u wanna know more, will be glad to share info and make new friends, cheers.

it all depends on ur budget, if u get a rm200 speakers, and rm300 amp, maybe it will sound slightly better but for sure louder.

if low budget, that's another story d. u will go for a different setup. Look for a speaker set that has hi sensitivity, more than 90dB is gud enough. As for wattage look for one that has less than 100W RMS. This is for ampless setup. But ithink it's not worth it to change cos ur Bose should be doing gud enough. Cos without amp, sound wun be that loud and clear. smile.gif

i wouldn't suggest cheap amp, cos i've gone thru quite a few cheap amps. Unless u juz wan it loud and dun care about the sound quality, then i think there's a lot of selection.

i would say not to get any amp then. rm200 is too 'much' for ICE tongue.gif

in most cases u need an amp, except if u use an active sub, it's a sub with built in amp.

cheap pre amp or x over will most likely lower ur SQ. I had a cheap pre amp last time, but it's no gud and cause aeroplane sound.

some ppl refer midbass as 6.5'. Some call it woofer.it's just personal preference but just need to make yourself clear. It's typically a 6 or 5 inches speaker.

basically passive setup is very simple. juz plug n play. U juz need an amp to power ur passives to get better SQ. some x-overs can let u set the tweeter lvls, depending on ur requirement. Mo need add pre amp and others, electronic x-overs r mostly for active setup.

u r going for SQ or SPL setup? if SPL, it doesn't matter cos it's all about power, if SQ it's gonna sound a lil murky(not clean) cos of extra distortion when in bridged mode.

2) JBL is ok, u can either go for GTO or GT5 series cos they suit ur budget. as for size, it depends on ur door panel, if u wan oversize, gotta do a spacer to house the midbass.
3) u need to check wat is the rms of the sub, not max power. how to check rms? ask ur bro, or check in internet for the model.
4) there r ppl in this forum who sells in set, might get cheaper from them. As for amp and speaker selection, i wrote a list down this post for u to choose from... we will discuss bout it later.
5) if u get a 4ch and under tight budget, 2 channel used for front through passive crossover and 2 ch bridged for rear sub. the rear speaker leave it to powered by HU. amp don't give output to HU, it's onli input from HU. output is all to speakers / sub. of course better if can get 2 amps but ur budget will have to jack up higher.
6) it's not necessary to change HU now, cos it's useless to change to rm300+ HU. Try to save up more and get a better one in the future.

no prob, if u r going to use those coaxials and not components system, it might be a waste to buy amp. buy an amp onli if u planning to use a set of comps, if not just get a monoblock for ur sub. try to make a spacer for the doors to fit 6.5" comps. but the final decision is alwez up to u. smile.gif

component usually come with a pair of box-like passive crossovers. they come in various sizes, but if u use 4", u will lack of mid bass. ur system will sound like something is missing in between.
a 2-way component set shud look something like this, 1 pair of tweeters, 1 pair of midbass and 1 pair of passive x-overs.

depends on the midbass magnet's size, if it can go through ur 4" door panel hole, then u just need a spacer to increase height. just bring the speakers to the installer and he will advice u wat to do.
