I've been going to the gym regularly last few months doing a 4 day split.

Last few weeks I've had this "sensation" on my right shoulder. It wasn't pain exactly, more like slight discomfort of which I didn't give much thought to.

I did a back workout 2 days ago (with lots of overhead pulling movements) and was feeling fine yesterday. Last night has trouble sleeping and woke up this morning with this soreness around my front delt on my right shoulder. If I raise my right hand up and then pull it down, I can feel the soreness increasing when my hand is going down especially when my elbow is level with my shoulder and going down.

Is that Shoulder Impingement? If so, appreciate any advice from anyone who's had the same problem. I rather not go to see a private doctor yet as I don't really trust them to give impartial advice.

Try warming up your shoulder like 10m-15m
Shoulder press light weight DB below 3kg 20 rep 3 set
Lateral raise light weight DB below 3kg 20 rep 3 set
Try add DB curl and triceps kickback 5kg 15 rep 3 set if u wanna more pump
Warming up>workout

Posted a video here, you can continue to watch part 2 & 3 from the YouTube link. Mine healed by itself within 2 weeks, did stretching as mentioned in the video and most importantly avoid overhead exercises and heavy lifting within this period.

Right, thanks everyone.

I don't flare my arms during bench presses. I try to pull with my elbows for back exercises. I probably don't do enough warmups. I probably shouldn't do strength sets of 3-4 reps, just stick with 8- 10 rep sets. Will rest a week or so even though I'm itching to get back in the gym.

I did an experiment on myself while lifting heavy weights without warm up yesterday, found a big difference in terms of performance at least for me, joints on elbows and shoulders were less stable as compared to after warm ups.

After my ordeal, warming up is a must for me. Speedy recovery. icon_rolleyes.gif

yes most likely shoulder impringement.

do u have kyphosis? shoulder roundness? most probably u suffer from them. u want to go to physio or chiro, not a normal doctor

but if the case is still acute u can solve the prob by yourself

I don't think I have that condition - shoulder roundness from overdoing chest exercises, its more of muscle imbalance probably. My left traps is noticeably bigger than my right traps due to the fact that in primary school I always hang my school bags from my right shoulder when walking home. Over the years my right traps has probably been "impacted" causing an imbalance later on in life. When I started working out at age 18 the right traps just doesn't respond as well as the left. Thats my theory anyway.

I think I can manage the condition on my own. Been doing stretches and strengthening exercises and the pain has gone down to the occasional mild discomfort. I'm going to the gym tonight for legs day and followed by some selective exercises for upper body on the next session.

my shoulder problem got worst.
to the extend that i cant actually do my normal db or barbell presses. Not even upright rows.

so can i shift my workout to those bodyweight instead? due to limited equipments(db and barbells only actually) that made me consider this option. i dont want to be a fatass becos of this.

you need to wait your shoulders to recover before you use them again. you may make problem worse by using them now. this is a simple logic.

then i dun think it will heal.
first noticed this sick more than 10 years ago.
on and off it will come.(where i cant even raise my hand.)Then it became both side.

near recent years, it got worst till to date.
doctor said even a surgery cant fix it, only exercises or physio.
currently on painkiller whenever i felt the pain.

sigh...sad.gif

not sure.
but went to mri, went for few xrays. 1 doctor said i have a weak shoulder.
the other said MAYBE your joint is rubbing against the coccoon or something. Since MRI cant see anything, go for physio. If pain still there after two weeks, drill a hole at shoulder location, use camera to see.

chinese tabib say, you drink too much cold water, too much cold food yada yada.

physio really can cure this?Or only help reduces pain?

bro the problem now is u dont even know what injury u having. yes go sports physio would be better. spend rm50 per visit to SPORTS PHYSIO is much more worth compared to go to doc or chinese tabib etc.

drill hole wtf thats so crazy and he said the word "MAYBE" hah that is why i try my best not to go to docs for such cases.

they dun seem to have a quick simple fix for me even though i told them i dont mind going under the knife.
i just want to be able to use my shoulder properly.

If you want specialist to take care of your problem, you may try Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre. Datok Lee Chong Wei goes there for treatment too.
