Good to have shower facilities in the office.

yeah, lucky me. but last time I once work in office with no shower. Sometimes I go jogging and other activities after work and wait for my dad pick me up later at night, I can also bath in the office toilet tongue.gif so I guess that's fine too. but I think I was just lucky as that office is like a close-knit- family- type of people in the office and the toilet is in the office itself. so it's just like a home, no one bothered when I take bath there.

My clasp mechanism fall again this morning! The nut that hold it in keep falling off when I clasp it for locking (refer picture). I think probably the thread damaged but when I screw it off the bike it screw in fine. Went to few hardware shop and bicycle shop, none have the suitable nut. So seller give me supplier address to let them do it. Luckily both time this happen, I'm at home, don't wanna experience frustrations when riding outside!

So, for new people shopping for foldie, I think if you have budget, better go for a well established folding maker as you don't want to deal with this kind of thing I'm also saving now to buy proper bike in future.

No biking till monday... :-(

My bike is Raleigh Wrangler

Most probably the treads has loosen off or worn off at the moving shaft. If it is the bolt, then replacing t is easy but my guess is the shaft tread. If you know how to take out the shaft, replacing the shaft with a same length and diameter nut with the same tread (  different size tread for that matter, just get same size nut with the tread) it can be easily replaced. But don't waste time taking it to bike shops, anything that takes time repairing, they won't touch it, they start giving all sort of excuses.

Another alternative is retreading the existing one to smaller gauge and change the bolt to the new size. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Thanks so much etigge. The shaft thread still fine, the nut thread is the problem. Yeah you are right, bicycle shop at my house dont do it and just say there is no nut that size. Also diy shop also dont have the nut. But already brought to the supplier bicycle shop (bicycle world, tmn melawati) this morning as the online seller I bought from take from them, and replace with better nut. Friendly n helpful shop, she said if anything just come back to her, luckily near my area.

However, seems like the way the mechanism is, spring and screw, I foresee, after a while it'll get loose again. So I better have some tools and spares with me in case.

My raleigh ugo still working fine and strong tho.
*
Your Raleigh Ugo is a better bike than mine and is established beginner folding bike. Many people use it as their first folding :-). Mine is a lower version of it.

Btw azam, guess what, I go see the bag seller that day. The bie don't fit in the bag!! :-(

If you have mentioned that the shaft tread was still OK, it would have been solved a long time ago. Nuts are available in all sizes, types and materials in Central Nuts and Bolts in Jalan San Peng near 'Hor Chin Yeen'. I usually buy screws, nut and bolts from these kind of shops also known as 'fasteners centers'. In fact there are 2 near my area near The Mines. Like those small little allen bolts that I use on my wife's pedals, works wonders  thumbup.gif  They grip better than the normal ones provided by pedal companies. The cost, only RM4.50 for 30 pcs compared to RM30 for 8 pcs Shimano ones rclxub.gif

Like those allen bolts for the bottle cage , I got them at 20 cents each (stainless steel ones lagi  thumbup.gif ) from these shops.  Usually bike screws, nuts and bolts are metric sizes M4, M5 and in the case of brakes M6. Next time, go to these shops for bolts and nuts part. icon_rolleyes.gif

Wahh, thanks for all these information. Should have some spares with me just in case. Jalan San Peng I know, will go there to buy. Thanks again etigge :-)

For mine, hav to adjust properly. I have to loosen the handlebar and pull outwards to the max. So i can fold my bike closer tghtr without having the handlebar in the middle as obstruction.
*
My handlebar folds outside the wheels, so they are pretty close together. My exceed is the length of the bike after folded. But nvm, I search for the bag from billy at bbs. Thanks

next week I'll start my plan. mine is also 10km one way all the way to office but really heavy traffic, so decided to do the komuter sentul plan first about 7km to komuter and another 1km at the other station to office. see how it goes.

Yupp. You are lucky that you can shower in the office.
Let us know the experience of cycling to work.
*
Hey guys, so today my first day ride my bike to office + komuter. I decided to ditch Putra LRT (KJ Line) as it is not feasible at all given the human volume that ride lrt during office hour. I have tried bring bike once during non office hour (10 am) in KJ Line LRT from Gombak to Dang Wangi station, no bag, passed.

For today, cycle to Komuter Sentul from Gombak, in about 30 minutes. I was late from home about 7:45 am so traffic is there. Really ride defensively as office people are fierce when they drive to office, blink.gif , cars don't care if you are there really at the edge of the road and still squeeze you. I thought motorbikes are my allies but they are no less competitive in the race of who gonna reach office first sweat.gif A motorbike still squeeze in between me and a car and give me the 'look'. LOL, these people love office too much tongue.gif So, what I'm saying is we really really ride defensively in morning traffic.

Nevertheless, made it safely to Komuter Sentul in 30 minutes, which is 10 minutes earlier than the first time I ride it in trial ride in the evening. In komuter station, I fold it trolley style with the handle not folded so I can push it around like trolley. I look at the guard if he gonna stop me, I bring my bike bag too, just in case. I asked the guard, can I go in like this, and he give me an ok nod, so I push my bike like trolley in to the lift and to platforms. Arrived the other station also, I push it like trolley into the lift. This reminds me sometimes the lifts in komuter will not work, so I make a mental note that when those times happen it will be a bit trouble to carry it up and down the stairs. Then I continue my cycle to my office about 5 minutes.

My office is at level 3 with no lift, so I fold it and bring it up the stairs. The guards said I can leave it under the stairs, but I said i don't have lock so scared it will be gone. They said it's ok, there is CCTV, but I don't wanna take chances hehehe blush.gif

and regarding shower, for today I don't feel it's necessary as I sweat only like when I walk to office. I do bring toiletries just in case I needed one.

Anyway, so I arrived safely in about 50 minutes including komuter waiting time. Gombak to Jalan Tun Ismail. I think for now I'll do this when I don't have to go elsewhere after office. Overall, it's nice to cycle to office than standing in lrt for one hour to arrive my office, only to continue another 10 minutes walk. Cycling is definitely better.

Here are pictures how I fold it like trolley in komuter. And in office the bike fits behind my chair at my desk.

hehe, yeah, tomorrow I'll try to go earlier. safety first and yes, ride defensively. give way to people and always alert. assume people don't see you, and slow down each time at a place where a car / motorcycle will come out, as they always assume you are slow and come out unexpectedlty. these are what I observe today.

can try once and see if you can overcome the fear and like it over your usual mode of transportation. the fierce drivers will not go away, but we can try to ride very carefully smile.gif I was scared too, yesterday, at first, but just try my best to ride carefully. and think about the first time we ride a car independently in a busy highway, it's the same feeling that will go away.

sankyu sankyu, people like you inspired me first! biggrin.gif

btw, i wanna ask about pump, and other essential items to carry around. is the cheap slim hand pump in mr d.i.y sufficient to do the job or that's trash? do you guys install the pump on your bike? On other items like patch kits and spare tube, where do we put it? the small saddle bag that put under the saddle? if needed to fold the bike and put in bike bag for trains does it need to be taken off? also those who install pannier bag to carry clothes etc. can it still be fold to be brought in train? or that only suitable if you need not to fold bike on your way?

thanks for sharing! icon_question.gif

save some more and get a floor pump instead.i got my floor pump at diy around rm40++ with meter.as long u can know how much preasure u pump, that its good

bydaway for handpump i always buy a good one, and wire type one like the topeak race rocket.a bit pricey, but its a good pump.

i had bad experience with cheap pump already since those pump give my tube koyak when pump the air.lucky me that time got my friend to help around!
*
oh something like this? http://bicyclebuysell.com/item/293932/orig...si-free-postage

so you have both floor pump and also the carry in your bike one?

if we pump, how much pressure is for the standard packaged tyres?

It seems like they accept any kind of bike. Not necessarily a folding bike. Maybe they should consider accepting a folding bike in peak hours 😁😁😁
*
yeah this one if follow like Amsterdam, they have a coach where the big bike can enter, not necessary folding bike. they have sort of strap/holder to hold the bike throughout the journey. but I still feel to not allow in peak hours beat the purpose as we want to commute in peak hours. If there is dedicated coach like how they do it in Amsterdam, I don't see the reason to limit to off peak hours only as people with no bike will use other coaches.

as for now, I think even if they allow during peak hours, for LRT (KJ line), it's quite impossible even if you board from the 1st station (Gombak or KJ). It's very super crowded, even people with big luggage hard to go in.

correct me if im wrong, but lrt do have women coach right?maybe that coach a bit comfort to carry the bike around.
*
Nope, Komuter (KTM) has ladies coach, LRT (Kelana Jaya line) don't have, I am not sure Ampang line (previously STAR LRT) has as I don't use that one. Hehe but actually, you may not know, the ladies coaches are usually more crowded than normal coach as more women use public transport. In komuter, if one wants seat, sometimes we use normal coach, plenty of seat. ha ha

Hi all,

I hv decided to get folding bike for me and wifey, budget would be around rm800-850(for one). Which bike would you recommend? Just some 10-20km ride around neighbourhood etc. Nothing hardcore. But folding mechanism should be robust and reliable as it will be fold and unfold frequently. Thanks.
*
I think Dahon SUV D6. http://www.khassbicycles.com/index.php/bik...on-suv-d6-steel

I have no experience in it but it's an economy Dahon, so I think the folding mechanism should be fine. Don't be like me buy economy one (raleigh wrangler) and the flimsy folding falls off in 3rd use he he. but all are fine as long as you know how to put it back together. thumbup.gif

btw guys, anybody has experience using foldie for daily errands? like go to supermarket or shopping malls. in malls do you bring your folding bike in? and if no, where do you park and how do you lock? if you eat in cafe for example, do you just leave outside without lock?

You can fold and carry it in actually. Better if it is a 16 inch foldie. Smaller and more compact. For a foldie, no matter how you lock it won't be safe.  icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks for answer etigge. now i begin to regret not buying the trinx 16" haha.
