The Maxis test is right
You're getting 300+ kbps . Its correct. That means the link between you an the ISP is 300Kbps. But for International Line , whole other thing kicks in

I have to say this
It has given me a bad impression on maxis. Their technicians are pretty rude over the phone. They called me this morning and when I answered the call they just address me by my name. There is no sir/encik/mister or any other greeting. I've to say that to maxis. It really puts me off. Oh on top of that he is coming tomorrow. I will keep you guys updated on it
I think I rather stick with Jaring WBB , if maxis is going at this rate. But nevertheless , there is 1 week trial

Yep , its heaven and the earth
I've been to Singapore and Australia. I have to say that they do provide a pretty good wireless service , but again its still wireless. It does not matter whos providing it. Its the technology. But again , WiMax looks promising and it might open up a whole new dimension

Here is mine (for the geekies) For your information the RSSI must be less then -85 dbm , it must get closer to zero. Remember its negative , so it needs to get close to zero. It uses the same principle as CDMA Phones !

I can't get Jaring's speedtest to be uploaded..I'll do that again (Its around 400Kbps/55Kbps only) I'll conduct the same speed tests again on my JARING Wireless broadband then we can compare it

Yes yes
This is even worst then JARING. At least JARING you can get something (at least around 3-10Kb/s) , but then Maxis drops it completely. Your torrent will be completely 0Kb/s untill around 1 in the morning then it starts to pick up. Before that it will be 0...Oh yeah a guy told me here about that, a first i refused to believe . Then With my own eyes I've witness the whole thing. The torrent speed was 0Kb/s , but then sharp 1 AM , bam it started to pickup...till around 6 AM

I like the idea when it drops. I mean bandwidth does not come cheap. UMTS provides you 384Kbps (thats good when idling) and once you're active again it goes back up to HSDPA speeds. Fair enough I say

It happens only to Maxis 3G UMTS/HSDPA Package. The Unlimited Package. Its because its going through their proxy. Their proxy compresses images to speed things up.
What can you do you ask - Nothing much
Maxis Broadband vs Maxis Unlimited are two different things

Nope there are not
You are connected to the the 'maxis' apn and we (wireless users) are connected to 'maxisbb' apn. It gives us a different IP Address and a different range

QUOTE(soul2soul @ Sep 19 2007, 09:30 AM) prasys, which one is better? unlimited 120 package or wireless broadband package in terms of speed and stability? It depends on you. There aren't any contract for the Unlimited 120 Package. It just uses your phone and on top of that you get a Public IP (not shared). So its good for leeching stuff off iRC Networks. Next up , we have the wireless broadband package. It focuses more into 'broadband'. Your images aren't compressed and you have a dedicated HSDPA Terminal (aka a modem + router) that'll save you some $$$ on buying HSDPA Phones. It depends

Well , you are given a Public IP for the Maxis 120 package. The IP Matches for me (AFAIK)...I've tried using my HTC Trinity with my PC. It gives a Class B IP Address

Do they share the same network - Yes What are the differences - The Unlimited data package has no caps. You get a direct IP to the Internet. There is no smart ZTE router that blocks torrent etc. On the other hand the modem supports 3.6Mbps (I heard it can support up to 14.4Mbps with a firmware upgrade). On the other hand most phones only support speeds up to 1.8Mbps (at the most 3.6Mbps) Added on September 22, 2007, 7:47 am This morning This post has been edited by prasys: Sep 22 2007, 07:48 AM

Well , so far it looks good. Its far better then JARING when it comes to upload. At this moment I can get around 100-200Kbps upload (if I place the modem near the window). I can still get around 50-60Kbps (if its inside my house). As for the download , I can get 80%+ of the subscribed speed at all times (and sometimes even more). But then it really slows down during the night (maybe its because they allow p2p during the night) , but then the latency is consistent and stable , which is well a good news for me. The drawbacks you ask. Well there are a lot Firstly , you don't get full control of that modem. Maxis automatically blocks and unblocks port for you. In other words you can't host a gaming server , HTTP Server , Torrentflux server or p2p. Its all nat'ed and at sharp 1 in the morning its all opened and you can freely p2p at amazing gila-gila speed (roughly around 80-120Kilobytes/sec) till 6 in the morning (fair deal). After that it will be at 0KB/s (even though the client can connect to seeders/peers it will be at 0). Fair enough I say. Next up , the problem lies with Maxis itself. I dont trust Maxis 100% on their charges. They love to play tricks (they certainly do have lot of tricks up their sleeves) and try to lure you into something. Oh they should improve their International Links. Accessing websites that are located out of Malaysia takes ages to load. I've to use a local proxy to get decent speeds. I did not have any sort of 'International' Link Problem with JARING (Unless of course there is a major "outbreak"). Added on September 22, 2007, 11:49 am Look at the latency. Its amazing. I am downloading python and my friends are playing World of Warcraft and DOTA on our local servers. Its still amazing. Oh yeah they do suffer minor lag spikes (Streamyx users will not face minor lag spikes as their latency to local servers are less then 100 ms). So I think its good enough. Oh yeah you can forget about playing MMORPG on international servers. This post has been edited by prasys: Sep 22 2007, 11:49 AM

Finally returned the somaport (bye-bye JARING , love you...You'll be always in my heart no matter what)
To your question : Yes its possible. You can share via a router. The Modem itself acts a router for your information. I'm using WRT54G + Maxis broadband
