I saw pet shop feed them wit long bean, so i was thinking can let them try sweat.gif

Where to get hibiscus flower and leaf? unsure.gif

Petshop of course lah.... they do not know anything and long beans can simpan longer than sawi. That is why they feed long beans. Petshops, majority of petshops got no knowledge on tortoise keeping and also diet.

Hibiscus is Bunga Raya lah.... dun tell me dekat your rumah tak da?

I dont think so the long bean can keep longer ...

Of coz i know Hibiscus is bunga raya  doh.gif

Near my house really dont have, dont tell me it is the national flower so tht every where must have wink.gif

Eventhough i find it, i cant just simply pluck ppl's plant right?!  rolleyes.gif

Since u r so knowledgable, y not u suggest some other veges which i can get them in the market?
*
It can keep longer and it is also easier to buy. Leafy veggie like Sawi, if you keep it open with nothing to cool it or damp it sure layu already. Long beans are dry, also easy to buy and keep without a fridge. it can last a few days longer than sawi if you do not cut it.

Actually, just pluck lah. I ask people if I can take some leaves, people's plants summore and they let. I even go cut people's opuntia cactus....

There is already a list of veggies for stars... it is up to you to research. Already mention sawi and there are many kinds of sawi. Romaine lettuce, Sweet Potato leaves, collard greens if you can find this, endives.... but the best is giving them sawi, hibiscus flower and leaves and also opuntia cactus. Kangkung once a while is ok, but not everyday.

My star tortoise doesn't seem to like water. Gave it a little shallow pan of water/pool for it but it doesn't seem too keen on going in. Wonder if it's alright? sweat.gif

They are land tortoises, rarely they find water holes to soak in if they are in their natural habitat. They do not enjoy high humidity as well. If you fear it doesn't drink enough water, then you soak your star yourself. I normally place my star in a bowl that has an inch of water since my star is big. If he wants to defecate, he would do so.... if he wants to drink, he would do so. The whole time he drinks and defecate, I would be watching so I know when he is done, I just take him out, wipe him dry and put him back in his enclosure.

Hhah.. of course when it comes to taking any flowers or plants that do not belong to you, always ask if the owners used pesticide or not....

hi guys, may i know where do you all keep your tortoise? anyone keeping it inside plastic container like toyogo?

i have 2 star tortoise, one is 2 inches big and another is slightly more than 3 inches which i added recently, and now the container is like very packed already.

actually i'd been looking for plastic container like toyogo in major supermarket but non of them satisfy me, it's either too small or it's too deep, so instead for keep looking, i think i better just find another solution. so can anyone here suggest a good and affordable tortoise container for me? i prefer something that's light so that i can easily bring the whole container out for sun bath.

other than plastic container i also thinking of getting an offer bin (picture below), the one u usually see when there are discount in most fashion shop, but the problem is i dunno where to get one sad.gif anyone here know where i can get one?

Thank you!!

Oh, those are actually great tables... but then ah, it is wood for the base. You should get plastic to line it and also to cover the bars as some tortoises can try climbing out since the bars are easy to climb on.

I think I can get a number for you. Wait a bit yah.

don't know how to said...gonna take video and let you see...really.
and one more....why cannot release red eared sliders to the sea or lake or somewhere la.....coz if become more bigger...how it gonna live in small bowl..doesn't it better to be berdikari??
*
wah... later kena lecture....

Why we cannot release the RES or any other non-native terrapins into the wild? They will destroy the eco-system, causing problems with natural terrapins and turtles.... they would fight with our local terrapins for food, eat up our local water way fishes.... this is the same with releasing snake head fishes and why piranhas are ban? You imagine, the piranha eating up the slower fishes and small animals.... later our wildlife become endangered lo.

If you cannot commit to having a RES, then why buy in the first place? Releasing them is as cruel as keeping them in a small bowl.... might as well don't keep rite? If keep, then make sure you can allocate a proper space for it.

Alot of people are like you, thought that releasing a RES is a good thing, washes away sin and giving the animal freedom.... but look at our local waterholes... I see so many RES is Lake Titiwangsa, the man-made pond near my house, sometimes in the drain.... I think I even saw some in Putrajaya!

erm......
can i use soil......?
what kind of soil i need to ?

if my housing without lid or any penutup, can ?
i nak keep my tortoise in door where i can easily reach them.......

do they poo a lot ?
are they smelly ?

Added on December 12, 2007, 5:47 pmis it better to buy star tortoise from a pet shop or from a breeder ?

which one is more cheaper ? tongue.gif
*
Soil is dirty, it can harbour bacteria easily, is moist and star tortoises should not be kept in high humidity. Also there is a chance of it eaten and causing impaction.

They do poo and of course all poo smells lah.... as the tortoise grows, so does the poo and so does the smell.... but it is not terrible like cat poo.

Don't always go for cheap.... you will rarely find breeders here, so look for a tortoise that is above 3 inches. Please please please do not get attracted to those 2 inch or 1.5 inch ones.... regret later coz the chances of survival is low if your husbandry and care is not correct.

Please do more research. You still lack in it.

i already do some research, mayb not enough tongue.gif

but 2 or 3 website about star tortoise use soil as their bedding. they also tanam grass n many type of rumput2 n cactus(opuntia) yg star tortoise suke mkn....they make water hole for them to bath  wub.gif
thats y i'm asking smile.gif
kinda interesting to build taman (heaven~~) for my star tortoise.....  wub.gif
heheheheheheheheh

about the size.....most of pet shop i tgk jual dlm rm120-rm130....
is it the right size n price ?

thanks crazymouse_yyh for the info smile.gif

Well, soil thing comes from personal experience lah.... is really not healthy coz it attracts insects.... if you put outdoors and tanam grass and all, is ok coz the soil would be quite padat so won't termakan.... but if you keep soil and you keep it indoors.... plants won't grow well, soil too moist also.... we live in humid country.... those that use live in those with a dryer climate lah....

Those kind of husbandry for tortoises are nice but the upkeep is not.... also, not very practical if you wanna have it indoors. Even I have problem maintaining a natural habitat for my Dumpy frog that I keep indoors....

I wouldn't trust price coz it can vary from different places. You just bring a ruler with you and measure loh.... go for 4 inches if possible.... if no choice, a 3 inch one.
