Hi Guys,

Need your quick opinion/advice about these lenses.
Which one is more valued for money.
This will be my first prime lense & still cannot decide which one to grab.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D
Nikon 50mm f/1.8G
Nikon 35mm f/1.8G

I want to use it for travel/ street photography / low light/ candid shots
i'm using a D7000 body. i already have a tripod, extra battery and 3 8GB memory cards.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D - Good for bokeh

Nikon 50mm f/1.8G - Support for your Street Photography style

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G - Good for Potrait / Studio / Low light Photography

If you ask me, i will grab 50mm 1.8G. If you have more money, just take 50mm 1.4G

The 50mm is equivalent to 75mm on a DX D7000 DSLR, which is a bit too narrow for street photography and travelling but more suitable for portraits in general hmm.gif

The 35mm on the other hand should be just nice for your usage icon_rolleyes.gif

If you have a 18-55, 18-105mm etc. kitlens, try adjusting to 35mm and 50mm respectively and try shooting abit, then you will know which focal lengths are more suited for you icon_rolleyes.gif

From experiences:

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D - Cheapest of them all if not mistaken, have aperture ring, small/light/good tight shoots especially for street shooting (candid). Old but gold.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8G - Better than above but pricey and without aperture ring.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G - Currently using it as everyday lens. Plenty wide for small group of 3-4 ppl or scenery, full body portrait, low-light. Might be hard for candid.

vote for 35mm.

IMHO 50mm is too narrow on crop body. for street still ok la, but for travel surely you want to capture the scenery, group photos, etc.

I have been using D7000 for the past 2 years and with 50mm 1.8D. It is definitely sufficient to start with. As you progress you will learn and hone your shots. The lens makes a big difference after you have learned how to compose your shots properly.

My Nikon 50mm 1.8D really gave me the chance to learn all that. Once you used it more often, you will know wether you want to upgrade or try a 35mm. =)
