i have questions

if i use gear s as standalone device (without connecting to any samsung phone), may i know which apps/ functions/ features are ready to use?

If i use gear s (connect to non samsung phones), which features are available to use?

thanks
*
If used purely standalone, you can use the phone, sms and web functions. No notifications will be received since there is no paired device to send notifications from.

If paired with a non-samsung phone, you can have some notifications but I'm not sure what works or not.

There's a thread on XDA for this, pinned to page 1 of this thread.

how about S health, GPS navigation, music player and others if i use it as standalone device? Usable?

thanks
*
S-health probably, since the pedometer is always on.

Music player also probably usable.

Here Navigator has some kind of bug which I first reported on XDA and many around the world have confirmed that it is also not working without bluetooth on some ROM versions.

LOL welcome.

Please add yourself via the owners' form in post 2.

There is a user ceras in GS bringing this in for a good price. Arrival probably 2 weeks.

hi guys,

I'm owner of Gear S watch.

I dont' think i will apply for sim card, pairing with my note 3 works fine with me.
BTW, what is your favourite app for Gear S?

Mine would be the pedometer. But i do hope they install wechat in my gear s
*
I quite like the s-health app overall.

Yeah hope to have respondable notifications at least....coz I suspect that's how it will work.

The more i use this, the more i love it.  Being using it for spotify listening.  So far so good.  Battery life is good.  At first i thought i'm gonna sell this for Moto 360, i changed my mind.

Being using my Gear as my secondary phone for now.

Any idea on how to install Gear S app via sideload?
*
Could you share how are you streaming from Spotify?

I just bought Gear S today. Its a nice smart watch, but GPS seem not working well in HERE app.
I already downloaded Malaysia map from HERE app (note4), how can i install it to Gear S now?
*
Hi, you need to download the map directly from Here within the Gear S. It's 200Mb+ I can't recall...

Yes, GPS does not seem to work for Here, and this has been reported worldwide. It seems that Here worked for some early firmware version in some European countries, but later updates borked it.

I posted a thread in XDA about this and it is fairly active.

*
You can receive notifications, but probably can't install other Tizen apps without some manual workaround.

When switch to remote connection/pair it won't auto connect via Bluetooth back. Need to disconnect and reconnect.
*
It does, I tried it last night, purposely left the phone at home. When I reached home, it connected via bluetooth automatically.

I think it can be intermittent.

Yes, all connections active. It was on Bluetooth first, the it was remotely connected when I was out. When I reached home, it automatically connected to Bluetooth again.

Hi, i just bought gear s white and successful connect to my z3, my question is how to install app to gear s such as whatsapp.. when i go to menu and click get more applications, and it mention to download by using mobile device. What does it mean. When i open gear manager, i dont find any option for get applications. Tq loved it
*
Hi it won't fully pair without a Samsung phone.

You also can't install any IM apps like Whatsapp, but you can install "Notifications for Gear S" app in Playstore to get the reply functionality from Whatsapp notifications.

See page 1 for links to XDA showing how to pair without a Samsung.

I kinda like the Gear S.. But is it gonna be good without any note 4 around? Or should i really grab note 4 to pair with it?
*
It doesn't need to be a Note4. A Note 3 will also do, or any recent Samsung mid-to-flagship phone.

See page 1 for links to XDA showing how to pair without a Samsung.

u were like me thought everything would work well with a non galaxy and purchase gear s on impulse and now I ended up with note 4 just because of gear s. hahah. was eyeing for g3 for sometime. in the end need to forgo it.
u using notification for gear s too..check out the pic. was ur notifications like that too? showing 3 times? is there any settings? do I need to tick notifications for gear s under gear managers notifications?
thanks
tap the watch logo several times like the video and finally u will be using best of apple n best of samsung.haha
*
I do not have the multiple notification problem, since I only allow once.

You need to only allow it once, either in Gear Manager, or Notifications only. The interface in Notifications is horrible, but just disallow those notifications which you have allowed in Gear Manager.

Eg, if you allow Whatsapp in Notifications, then don't allow Whatsapp in Gear Manager.

Hi all, Samsung USA has published a table about email replying functionality on the Gear S.

My interpretation of the table is that it needs an Android 4.4.4 device for full email functionality on the Gear S.

i would like to ask, is it possible to pair the watch with my phone while i put another sim card in the watch itself? dun want to bring few phone with me..
*
Yes. However you may need to subscribe to the Call Forwarding service of your telco. If you are on Maxis you can get a multim 1 line where you have the same number and can swap between your watch or phone.

Yes, in which case I believe you need to get a Call Forwarding service.

hmm from my understanding i thought the watch can use standalone? i planned to put one sim(012) in the watch and then i pair the watch to my note 4(017).

im sorry im little confusing LOL doh.gif
*
Yes you can use it standalone with a SIM, it is a phone anyway.

However, if you want to leave your main phone at home and just use the watch and receive calls from your phone, then you need Call Forwarding activated.

Since I don't use this feature due to my multisim, I am quite certain you need to subscribe to Call Forwarding service from your telco.

The XDA Gear S thread actually has a long discussion on this, but I didn't follow since they are mainly talking about US telcos, and also I don't use this scenario.

actually i dont plan to leave my main phone at home, i was planning to take the phone and watch with me. so i can use the watch to make calls for 012 and oso 017? and also the watch able to get both notifications? thanks for reply! rclxms.gif
*
The scenarios are as follow:

1. Connect via Bluetooth
Can make calls and receive from the MAIN phone, IF you set "Auto Connect". Can receive notifications from main phone.

2. Connect via Bluetooth
IF set to Mobile Network Always On, then the watch is a fully separate phone, but you can receive notifications from main phone, and make and receive sms on watch separately.

3. Remotely connected
Same as 2 above

3. Not connected
Watch and phone are separate devices, no notifications from phone.

I believe most people are using scenario 1.

I use 2 and 3 most of the time, sometimes 1.

If you do not intend to forwards calls from the phone, then I don't think you need to subscribe to call forwarding.
