Just wondering if there are any more users of Gear S ?

It's already been launched for sale since Monday.

The adoption speed is quite slow for Gear S.
*
Fact is, I have only met 1 person wearing a Gear 2, and 1 person wearing a Pebble so far.

Probably a Gear S TT session may be in order.

Hi, I got my Gear S since Mon.

The only complain is reply from gear is limited to certain apps only.

Wish it has torchlight, so that you don't need to pull out phone to shine something that drop in your car etc.

Where can I get screen protector for it?
*
I think they have it in Singapore. Otherwise you can cut one yourself from those notebook vinyl films.
That's going to be my weekend project.

Do you all use the gear s as a separate device like a 2nd phone or mainly pairing it with the Samsung phone? Am still considering it..hehe..
*
If you are on Maxis, or maybe Umobile, you could get a multisim plan and really leave your phone at home.

However the expectation of the Gear S that it is like a featurephone Nokia from about 5 years ago. Just that it's really cool to have one on your wrist.

A Japanese user managed to root his Gear S.

Although I'm happy from a technical perspective, I don't know how it will be useful.

Any ideas?

The problem is i'm using Digi.. laugh.gif so am still considering the pros and cons.. biggrin.gif thanks for the reply

I could suggest that you port out to Maxis and take the Surfmore 50 with a multisim.

2Gb data, calls and sms pay-as-you-go, but my usage of calls and sms is incredibly low so this suits me perfectly.

I'm currently quite happy with Digi..so doubt I will port out for the sake of the Gear S.. biggrin.gif and i'm in the marketing line so call usage is quite on the high side as well.. sweat.gif

If that's the case then the Maxis OnePlan should suit you, since it is unlimited calls to all services.

I'm not promoting Maxis though but for a device like the Gear S, multisim FTW.

Just found out that there have been phones in a watch form factor for a while

http://www.burgsmartwatches.com/index.php?...ategory&path=59

I have also seen a wrist sized basic phone from China about 1 year ago, but it was just that, a phone.

These are devices that do not integrate to any ecosystem and are purely standalone, much like any basic phone.

Devices like the Gear S and Android Wear are full blown computing platforms, and the plus on the Gear S is that is has a phone as well.

LoL yeah, but that is far too big to wear, really, and tries to do too much.

I agree with this reviewer, too little of everything.

At least the Gear S is trying to fit an extra function to a smartwatch and it is still able to hold battery life equivalent with the others.

A rather balanced review from Android Headlines

http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/11/fe...ung-gear-s.html

The first commenter also makes a very rational pitch on why it is so big, comparing it to the Note 1 when it first arrived

QUOTE
Good review, but I think it follows the pattern of several other reviews that seem to judge this unique device by how much it doesn't look and feel like a watch. It reminds me of the early reviews of the Note 1 which almost universally penalized it heavily because it was "too big" to be a cell phone. 3 years later, and we have a new phone category, the phablet, and virtually every top phone uses a larger display. To me, an early adapter, the S is the farthest thing from a smartwatch...it is more of a wrist communicator. As Samsung states "It's our first network-connected wearable". The S is simply a wearable device that allows one to stay connected without lugging around your phablet so you don't miss calls, texts and emails. If you are into fitness, you can listen to music and monitor steps, heart rate, etc., without taking along your phone. If you work in a large office (or house) you can go out of bluetooth range and not miss anything. On a bike ride, or at the beach, the S is easier and safer to carry than your phablet. In addition, in my area around Washington, DC, bluetooth headsets are ubiquitous in offices, on mass transit, in cars, and in gyms and restaurants. That is exactly how the Gear S and other wearables should be used...not by holding one's arm up to talk. Regarding apps, several reviewers have noted the limited Tizen apps; however, I have yet to see a list of the must have apps they would use on a wearable like the S. Often, Samsung is criticized for throwing in too much software...in this case they have limited the apps to those that are most likely to be used regularly. Great decision Sammy! Just open up the S to all android phones and you may actually have a winner!
Nice one for those who want an in depth review.

If I am to use the watch for standalone phone, 10 mins call per day, can it last 14 hours?

It should be possible...at least 10 hours is doable.

One thing is you can wear it with the dock. Looks dorky I know.... tongue.gif

Samsung is cheating on that 20% discount. Now Samsung said need buy Note 4 and Gear S together same time to entitle that 20% discount.

If not willing to give that promotion then don't do it. Samsung is real pathetic!
*
Where did they change the T's & C's ?

I just checked and they didn't change to say that you must buy both together.
