What do you guys think about PANTECH? It went down a lot in line with the O&G companies, but while they've been rebounded quite a bit from their lows, PANTECH hasn't.

It just announced its profits.......
it is down again.......
3 bad quarters of declining profit....

I knew you wanted to point out the 'tesco' case ..  tongue.gif

But i prefer the 'amex' case..  rclxms.gif

But I rather prefer this..  tongue.gif
Value investing is not easy to do.. and many do not have the patience nor the emotion to execute them ...
*
LOL !

Yes..of course Tesco.
Patton teach us to learn from other peoples mistske.

Risk management.
It's all about risk management actually.

Our investors.
Stock falls and they will use the classic teaching...
If stock falls, the stock becomes cheaper..
and cheaper means more discount....so buy more.
Never scare...
Use the worn out Buffett teaching...
Be greedy and others are fearful...
Just buy more...
Average down....

Which is exactly what Buffett did for his disaster in Tesco.
Buffett started buying in 2007...
Then he bought more.....
Only when accounting scandal surfaced..
Only he sold.

He was wrong in this instance about branding
Despite having a strong brand name...
Tesco was not a wonderful company...

But at least Buffett is realising his mistake...

For investors...
If Warren Buffettt can continue to make mistakes...
Why not us?

Making mistakes in investing will happen.
Managing this risk is important.

I don't think Buffett bought Tesco simply because it was cheap. Rather, he did so because he predicted a bright future for Tesco, just as he did BNSF.

Of course, it turned out that one decision was right, and the other wrong...
*
I repeat again...

Buffett started buying in 2007...
Then he bought more.....

If you take the time and research...
He bought more in 2012....
which was right after Tesco gave its first ever profit warnimg ...
warning that thete would be no profit growth...
This saw Tesco shares getting hammered...
Which meant in 2012...
Buffett was already sitting on losses in Tesco....
So he bought more....
Whatever the reason...
He averaged down....

Tesco failed because it tried to be everything to everyone, too expensive to compete with the discount supermarkets, too cheap to look good compared to the upmarket ones. Probably Buffet simply doesn't understand retail as well he does other industries.
*
Risk management...

Reasons aside....
The lesson is.....
There are risks in investing......

Even smartie old man like Buffettt can mistake....
So ...... I think we should not discount this risk.

...and yeah... I am against averaging down.
