Now that's a relief. At least that's something to tide me over until Bioshock arrives. A must buy original game. Gameshop.sg is now taking order for S$66.90, but I'm waiting for the Limited Edition pack. hmm.gif

I've tried Googling for the 9-Series GF cards, with no concrete results. Looks like all those are mere speculations. But I can't help wondering whatever the heck they're gonna do next. 9800 Ultra= 2,000 MHz core/ 5,000 MHz mem speed? 2 GB memory and 1-MBit mem architecture? 280 pixel pipelines? Quad core GPU? I don't know, and I don't want to know. Looks like my 8600 GT which I haven't even tried out yet is turned into dust. sad.gif

I hope that Bioshock will be a CPU bias game, so it can make up for lost performance due to a lousy mid-range card.

Is anyone pre-ordering the limited edition?

...

Come to think of it, is TSB even bringing in the limited edition to Malaysia?

I know I am. biggrin.gif I'm just waiting for it to be brought in, at least through Singapore. I might get Bioshock from Gameshop.com.sg if they bring it in, just for the Big Daddy figurine. If TSB does bring it in, I wouldn't mind buying from them. But I noticed that buying through SG is slightly cheaper.

OT: Speaking about preorders, anyone of you guys preordering NFS Pro Street? I mean like, after that piece of turd Carbon left a bad taste in just about everyone's mouth, I'm sure some of us would be more cautious.

I think the NFS series already started going down since Underground 2 therefore i've lost my interest towards the series which i'm not surprised since EA has been churning out mediocre titles lately.

The problem with the NFS series is that it's like a really b1tchy girlfriend who gives you a hard time first, then when you're just about to ditch her, she comes back pleading you for a second chance. Even worse, there's always something to look forward to if you relent, only to find out that it's history all over again.

I hate to admit that the Pro Street trailers are looking pretty good, seductive even. Everything seems as good as gold. But I'm not going to be fooled this time around. I'll just wait and see. dry.gif Don't wanna splurge out another RM100+ for the next crappy successor of Carbon.

Great great trailer. But seriously, I encourage everyone to buy the original game. Show some support to one of the most consistent game developers ever. If I have to buy only one game this year, BioShock will be it. (But I desperately need a new rig too LOL)

Shelling out the dough for original games is not a problem. The problem comes when trying to procure it. It's either you get it from KL or SG, or you don't get it at all. Not everyone of us have the privilege of a credit card, and having to wait after paying for it is another headache. If by some chance, there is an ori game shop in Penang, do share it with us so I don't have to buy it online.

This is a total stalemate situation. When game distributors want to promote original stuff, don't just set up shop in KL for goodness sake. Do it in Penang and major cities as well. grumble.gif

Well back at my hometown in Ipoh you can find original titles but usually they're not so fast in bringing new games over. I wouldn't blame them for not bringing them in anyway, I mean how many gamers outside KL does actually buy original games?? There's just not enough market outside KL, and maybe that's why people simply choose not to bring them in. Although I hate the hassle of ordering myself, I thought getting a credit card nowadays are pretty easy? No?

Pitching Bioshock - "just another f**king PC FPS"
Bioshock was a long time in the making says senior designer Joe McDonagh
QUOTE
You can download the playable demo from Xbox Marketplace right now (it might take a while - everyone's downloading it) and the game is due to launch for 360 and PC on August 24. So far it's scoring incredibly well; OXM, PC Zone and PC Gamer each gave it a huge score.

But according to senior designer Joe McDonagh many publishers turned their noses up at the title when it was initially being pitched around.

Speaking to CVG about his role in its conception and development, McDonagh said, "Bioshock was a long time in the making. Ever since System Shock II the team had talked about everything they wished they'd done differently.

Advertisement:

"Ken (Levine) spent years pitching the game to publishers but no one was interested, incredible as that seems now. I joined Irrational in December 2004 and my first job was to get a publishing deal for the game (I worked as the Business Development Director for the first six months). I remember pitching the game to one publisher who later told a friend of mine that it was 'just another f***ing PC FPS that's going to sell 250,000 units.'

"This sort of attitude really pissed me off. System Shock II, for all its critical success, didn't sell very well which turned buyers off. Something I realised very quickly was that as much as your boss won't ever know that you turned down a future game of the year, he will know that you signed up a turkey. You don't get fired for not taking risks. That kind of mentality is driving the industry into a creative cul de sac."

Look out for our awesome Creative Minds interview with McDonagh later this week.
